Sooooooo, there's this news:

The new Kia Toronto FC Academy logo will become a symbol of soccer excellence, one that all young footballers in this country will aspire to wear and become a part of. The brand integrates elements of Toronto FC and speaks to the style of play being taught at all levels of the Academy and Toronto FC's top-to-bottom ‘football first’ philosophy.

Housed at the new state of the art Kia Training Ground, the Kia Toronto FC Academy, will look to develop the next generation of Canadian players through coaching, training, technology, equipment and support, further reinforcing Toronto FC’s and Kia’s commitment to soccer development in this country. For more information on the Kia Toronto FC Academy please click here (http://www.torontofc.ca/academy).

Now to be honest, it's not a bad looking crest. I actually like the thought that went into each particular element (especially the hawk). That said, I do have two concerns. Firstly, is the KIA logo actually a part of the crest? I get that the academy plays at the KIA Training Ground and that's okay and all, but is it a fundamental piece of the team's identity? If so, that's weak as fuck. Secondly, I have to wonder if a logo change is around the corner for the senior team as well. If this season ends on a bad note, it would certainly seem like just the distraction the club would offer up to deflect attention away from the myriad problems going on at BMO Field.

indeed, I can't think of any other team that puts sponsor logo's in their crest. PSV (Philips Sport Vereniging) doesn't have Philips in their crest, even though the team was started for employees of Philips and has always been sponsored by Philips.
Why can't they put the KIA on the front of the jerseys or the backs?

I REALLY like this logo. It's sharp and it has class written all over it, but the KIA logo is unnecessary.

I really hope there is NOT a logo change in store for TFC. In fact, I hope it never comes down to that.

How many clubs have a separate logo for their Academy youth teams? And the KIA part is ruins the logo.

TFC, always focusing on the unnecessary things.

If it's a kit logo, that's sad.

But if it's for the centre and stuff it's been done before.

http://www.georgiasoccer.org/UserFiles/image/Newsletter/winter 2012/Academia SCP Puma - Logo .jpg

They actually changed the name from Academia de Alcochete (Alcochete being the town the academy was in) to Academia Sporting/Puma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academia_Sporting

Same with Benfica.

When they started their academy in 2006, it was called Caixa Futebol Campus. Since it's sponsored by a bank.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futebol_Campus

But like I said Kia shouldn't be on the crest of the jersey. As a kit sponsor, fine.

(For example, the academy teams of Sporting and Benfica have different sponsors on their kits than the senior team. Which makes sense seeing that beer companies are part of their sponsorship. Most youth teams play with Coca-Cola sponsored kits.)

But I agree with Cash that I can see a logo change in the winter as being a "distraction".

love the crest, agree that the kia logo is unnecessary, but they're giving us money so they can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want. just as long as it doesn't show up anywhere on the pitch.

why the racing stripes in the crest?
the racing stripes inside the crest: yeah, racing stripes are cool!

Maybe Academy is trying to distance itself from the parent club.

"Look - we have a different badge and different corporate sponsor on our kit. Your children will be safe with us - we're not like them".

FWIW, the TFC badge has never done anything for me. There's nothing to it that speaks to the city of Toronto (other than 'Toronto' spelled across the middle).

I could see them rebranding the club in the near future.

What's the only constant around here ?
We're shit
Yes, but we probably shiouldn't market that... what else do we have ?
We're always changing managers and players.
Right. Good. We're always changing managers and players. Who said that ?
I did.
Who are you ?
I'm the new marketing guy.
Great - let's market 'constant change'... 'rebirth'... let's change the club badge to a Phoenix - Phoenixes (?) are cool.
yeah... we could have it rising out of pile of shit

Wouldn't bother me one bit.

yep, the KIA logo is an add-on to the design, that I'm sure can be removed or modified as things change down the road.

I guess it's not their initial crest, so I'm not that bothered by having a sponsor included. Still, it's not a great way to cap off the design.

the rest is really nice.

If the sword represents an "attacking style of play", shouldn't it be a "cloven hoof" instead. Just sayin'

i hope this is just the symbol of the academy, but not the crest in the sense that this will be on their jerseys.

My only probably with this great design is the obvious KIA logo, andddd i have problem that the TFC logo is still a brand that isnt really recognized in the city itself, so this will only bring confusion amongst the locals/kids who don't know what tfc is yet.

im sure they have a plan...or at least should

I'm sure they're playing attacking 4-3-3 with the academies.

I agree with Parkdale, the Kia emblem isn't embeded in the crest, so it would be easy to remove and replace with another sponsor (or, my preference, replaced with a Maple Leaf to symbolize Canadian Development).

Bayer Leverkusen has their logo in the club's crest, but as with Philips and Eindhoven Bayer has been a backer of the Leverkusen club since its inception.

Me likely, minus the Kia part of it.

Now if only the CSA could be convinced to update their POS logo.

ITA. The Kia logo ruins a pretty good crest.

Too bad TFC doesn't provide its fans with any news whatsoever about it's actual academy players.

First time I've seen this new design. Yanked it off a facebook page showing the academy's dressing room.

Yes, you're right. I remember seeing it in the backgrounds of some PDF and emails from the club.

WOW, someone really went "ape-shit" and cleaned up the negative talk about the new logo on this thread. I hope you guys got something nice for playing up the logo.

I really like that crest. Remove the KIA, remove the stripes within the circle and put something like EST. XXXX and you have a winner.
