The athlete that lights the torch isn't necessarilly a competitor. Ali in Atlanta comes to mind. Gretzky in Vancouver is another example.

Point taken but I can't think of any other athlete that was eligible for that olympics right up to the lighting of the torch and then did not participate. Kinda shabby.
