MLS identities by 2020 (fun/concept art)

I grabbed this from another forum and thought many you would appreciate this. Two users, Mcrosby and capitalcanuck, created a concept MLS in 2020 with rebranding and new markets (mostly NASL sides moved up) and it looks fantastic. What do you guys think? Remember, this is purely a display of creativity but they have made some great alterations.

i was actually in the works with these two (and quite a few others) to make an MLS superleague in Fifa12. basically, it's MLS and a few redeveloped USL/NASL teams that you can slot in instead of the english premier league to run a 4 tier MLS. it was almost completed but never got off the ground. oh well, maybe for fifa13?

I think most of their futuristic logos actually look worse than the current ones. Kind of reminds me of MLB's Turn Ahead the Clock promotion they did a while ago. Is their idea that their would be one MLS level at 30+ teams or would these be split into separate leagues? The Detroit and Edmonton ones are awesome though. Would be nice if FCE switched to that one instead of their terrible current day crest.

Nice map, but I can't see MLS expanding beyond 24 teams in two conferences of 12 by 2020. That would still give them an unbalanced 34-game season

more then 24 teams is to big for 1 league, to be honest beyond 20 is really pushing it.

Some of those new crests are ok, some are ugly. Cosmos in my opinion is the worst. Atlanta what the hell is that a crest of?? and the name Terminus Rising FC?? San Jose i still hate there crest in this picture as much as i do in real life, despite what retro lovers say. And Detroit crest that just going to get ripped on in so many ways. New England new crest here is better then the one they actually have now, anything is better then the name, kit and crest new England currently have now. As for crew why has no one changed there dam crest by 2020???

A lot of these cities don't have much chance of ever being considered to get a pro team with Albuquerque being the least likely to ever get a team. Orlando, Atlanta, Edmonton, San Antonio are all big question marks as well. Miami, Detroit, St.Louis, Minnesota might have bit better odds of getting a team, but even then it's hard to say where can MLS go next. What city will support a team well and who has the money and stadium!

As far as where the teams would go, I think the MLS would want to expand into the markets where they would get the most media saturation. To my mind, that makes Florida and the Carolinas as two locations that would give them penetration into the south. Minnesota would give them penetration in the North, Personally, I'd like to see them expand to Edmonton to give an additional Canadian team, but I think that MLS wants american teams from now on.

The way I see it, if MLS were to expand to 5 more cities, they'd probably have to expand to San Antonio, Minnesota, Edmonton, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale since they have the largest stadiums. That's probably too concentrated for Florida, so they should probably give a franchise to the Carolina Railhawks if they upgrade their stadium. That would give the following 12-team Conferences:

East: Carolina, Chicago, Columbus, D.C., Kansas City, Minnesota, Montreal. New England, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Toronto

West: Chivas, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Houston, Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake, San Antonio, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver

Each team plays twice in its conference and once in the opposing conference for a 34-game schedule. The winner of each conference gets a spot in CCL and the top 6 teams in each conference get into the playoffs, with the MLS cup winner getting another CCL spot.

First of all, this was strictly fantasy. At some point in our 'timeline' we will be making the league two-tier with a promotion and relegation series. Just an aside, Chris Creamer's Sports Logos site is probably the best online resource for team logos, crests, and jersey designs. I used to frequent the forums a long time ago and still check out the galleries every so often for updates. So I'm bumping this thread out of the respect it deserves.

i mightve got you mixed up with another person then, if thats the case then i hate to say it dude, i think someones ripped off a few of your logos.

i got a few of them after you originally posted, but he's claimed credit for making them. i'll grab the stuff that was sent to me and PM you the guys contact info, it's for FIFA so it's not for profit or anything, but it's not cool that someones passing your work off as theirs. i'll grab the info and PM you i have on sunday/monday, i'd do it now but im heading out for the night.
