Great blog piece by Fletcher here. This should be stapled to the forehead of everyone at MLSE responsible for TFC.

"Yes, becoming something better than just another MLS team with a unique style is a nice long term goal. Maybe the first step towards that though should be to become just another run of the mill respectable, competitive MLS team that can play badly and still get results."

Yes, it was a good blog post. Now, I'm not one to defend MLSE, but we had many threads on here with people claiming they would rather lose with "Beautiful attacking football," than win with boring, stifling, defensive football. It seemed like a PR gift that MLSE simply couldn't turn down.

Stifling defenses always seem to come from 'difficult' coaches and are usually tough to implement. A place like MLSE really doesn't have the stomach for that - as the article says, Preki annoyed people above him aas well as below. As soon as your fans say there's a particular style in which they'll accept losing then that's the easiest thing in the world to give them and you never have to put up with difficult people. Sure makes going into the office a lot easier.

Here's hoping these guys can at least get TFC competitive in this league over the season. They've proven they can win a few games in a tournament, now can they grind out some wins week in and week out?

Who is being called up to replace Josh Simpson? Is Rob Friend or Jaime Peters available?

Yikes both those guys have played maybe one game since January!

I'm thinking Hart could push De Ro out left, Occean up top, Jackson out right.

Hutchinson behind them with De Guzman and Johnson as DMs

So you're saying that TFC fired Preki and Mo Johnston because the fans didn't like the style of soccer they implemented over the season??

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the fact that the team barely missed out on the playoffs the previous season with a rookie head coach and the signing of Preki was suppose to get the team fired up to make the playoffs for the first time. In the end what they got was a rebuild that didn't need to occur because a majority of the key pieces were already set.

Preki and Mo decided to rid themselves of key players and replaced them with sub-par replacements, basically they tanked the titanic almost on purpose.

It's ancient history now, but it's unlikely Preki got fired less than a year into a multi-year contract because of the team's record. the record wasn't really all that bad (it's not like he ever went 0-9). I think there's something to the blog post's claim that he annoyed the people above him as well as those below. And then when the fans gave the team the excuse of prefering a "beautiful style" it made it easy to dump a difficult guy. That's when the organization started talking about "progress" instead of "results."

If the team has now decided that it's okay to grind out a few ugly wins over the course of a season, I think that's good news.

I thought that survey come up after Preki had been fired?

Preki was indeed fired in part because of poor results. The team was in a pretty bad dive when he was canned.

Yes, but there had been plenty of chatter on here and other sites. Like most surveys, they knew the answers they wanted before they phrased the questions. Winning is hard in a parity league, offering "beautiful football" just costs money.
