BRIDGEVIEW, ILL.–Toronto FC was close, within one minute, of getting a point on the road, something that had eluded it for most of its games away from home this season.

But Fire midfielder John Thorrington scored from close range three minutes into stoppage time to give the Chicago Fire a 2-1 win over Toronto FC last night before 15,118 fans at Toyota Park in suburban Chicago.

Toronto had managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute on the first goal ever in the first game ever by 16-year-old Abdus Ibrahim, received in a trade from FC Dallas in June. They had fought off what seemed to be dozens of shots and scoring chances by the Fire late in the game.
