This paragraphed, titled 'Head Scratcher' really is a head scratcher...

We should re-brand ourseves Toronto Cup Football Club and start chanting "TCFC clap clap clap - TCFC clap clap clap"... lol

HEAD SCRATCHER
Head coach Aron Winter has guided Toronto to just six league wins from 42 MLS matches and has collected points in just 26% of his league fixtures since the start of 2011 -- the second worst winning percentage among MLS coaches that have been in charge for at least a season.

That said, Winter's winning percentage in Cup games is an astronomical 65%.
Since beginning last year's Canadian Cup with a pair of wins against FC Edmonton, the Dutchman has accumulated a 10-3-5 record away from MLS with massive away results in Panama, Nicaragua, L.A., Mexico City and Dallas

C'mon, those stats are not head scratchers, we all know that some of these teams in the CCL preliminaries have good technical attacking players that are comparable to MLS players but their defenders are more similar to USL defenders. That's the same with alot of their goalkeepers, they would barely crack the USL roster.

The only real head scratcher this season is how is they manage to play together and beat the defending MLS Champions and can't muster the confidence to fight for every point versus all the other teams?

That's a head scratcher, because they look like they don't even try at times.

as i said in another thread, TFC is 4 wins, 1 loss, 3 draws against MLS sides in all cup competitions (NCC/CCL/ACC) over the last 2 years..

yes, a head scratcher

I think this is the problem right here. We saw what they can do last Wednesday when they actually play with heart. We're not seeing that type of work ethic much this year except in champions league.

I can't totally agree here Jabbronies, did you watch the game @ RSL? It's not the only time they've given it all and lost due to not finishing (off the bar or save of the week) and giving up a bad goal to kill them, it's not for lack of heart all the time.

You know.. I've been critical, in past, of J-Mo, in interviews; this usually ends with me eating my words and giving him the benefit of the doubt -- honestly.

If you look at the most recent TFC TV interviews, again, it appears like he gives Winter a bit of a hard time and over nothing, really (re: how the team will play in Van.). Winter is not a native English speaker and, so, there isn't much sense looking to catch him out; in this particular instance, even, Winter turned out to be correct and still tried to be a nice guy about it.

I'm obviously not a journalist, myself, and perhaps some will feel it's important that he isn't comfortable in these situations. I suppose I'm simply of the belief that a certain finesse would be just as or more effective, removing the unnecessary banter over a technicality. I have recently come to appreciate the approach of the gentleman that asked about whether or not the staff changes were a direct result of our league record (might someone know his name?); unlike, for instance, Lee Godfrey, who does a bit too much of "the dance" for my liking, the aforementioned lad does tend to clearly cut straight to the heart of the issue and even follow up or rephrase, where needed.

I felt like, during our darkest hour (8th loss), the media seemed to stir things with telling the players they were interviewing that Winter had thrown them under the boss.. completely ignoring the context that, whilst he may sometimes focus on certain aspects -- trying to break down how we managed a particular result -- I don't think he's ever said that he doesn't share in the blame and take responsibility for how things are going. Now, I don't know or recall what, if any, part of that J-Mo had.. but, I point this out because, if you're to focus too heavily on technicalities, Winter will always have one and two quotes that, if repeated to the players, will stir things up.

I hold J-Mo in high esteem and especially for the way he engages the supporters, despite any criticism (in some case reckless and misguided). Would really be curious to hear his thoughts on this dynamic and maybe a little on the role media will play, in such a critical moment for our club.
