I am really tired of reading articles posting the team's record and having to take a moment to figure out which of these formats is being used.

Why is this not uniform around the world? It should be.

I have not been able to take a look at who uses which standard, but it would be great if someone would be able to show me what is the most commonly used standard because frankly I am tired of seeing both and I want to stick with one.

Is it

WIN - DRAW - LOSS?

or

WIN - LOSS - DRAW?

Personally, I prefer WIN - DRAW - LOSS because it basically shows our points total on a descending scale. 3 POINTS - 1 POINT - 0 POINTS and it's easier to do the math. But I am not married to it, I just want some uniformity.

Thoughts?

As far as I know you're supposed to do it W-D-L, but in the MLS, we do it W-L-D.

That's where the confusion is coming from

The format used around the world is W-D-L. However, due to North American format of W-L-D, MLS follows suit.

Thankfully, TFC is doing its part to clear up this confusion by confining all its numbers to a single column.

Reminds me of how in NA they do olympics standings by medal count than golds but in the rest of the planet its total golds.

Dumb yanks think they won our olympics cause they finished 3rd a bunch of times. Lolz.

Well 008 is kind of sexy in a James Bond way and 080 just looks like a lottery number. I vote Win Draw Loss.

I prefer Win/Loss/Draw. In my mind, it makes more sense mathematically, because the variables between winning (3 points) and losing (0 points) have a greater impact on the final point tally than draws (1 point).

This reminds me of the arguments I get into at work regarding the correct way to write out the date.

It's Month/Day/Year and it bugs me when I see otherwise.

LOL @ this thread.

If TFC's record as listed in the MLS standings was interpreted based on the European format, TFC would be undefeated with 0 wins, 8 draws, and 0 losses.

To be consistent it must be linear ...
W-D-L and YYYY-MM-DD

We also need a thread about:

- the correct meaning of the word "tie".
- the order in which teams are displayed in games (home team first everywhere but N America)
- why the word the English use for games is one that we use for ceiling lights

My Bad. It must be linear AND non ambiguous :o

Canada signed up to use the ISO 8601 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601) (YYYY-MM-DD) format for date and time representation through national standard CSA Z234.5:1989.
