Well i held off getting a name on the back of my jersey at the whitecaps game (was going for Ricketts or Amado)...
I figured with the impending transfer window we'd get us a striker...

Now Ibrahim, at 16 years old, is a prime candidate for supporter jersey name/number!!!

Keegan

Ibrahim was very good tonight... really suprised actually. TOOK SOME SHOTS ON TARGET! THANK GOD!!!

To the tune of dig a hole and bury him

Only 16? Can't we make him Canadian? Living with his uncle in Toronto, he could still play for Canada and then be domestic.

He has already suited up for the US U-17 team. I doubt they will give up on him now.

Roogsy
07-12-2008, 09:45 PM
Not their choice. If he decides to suit up for Canada, he can I believe, but it might make things final for him. Not sure what the rules are but playing for a U17 does not close the issue.

That strike he had from outside the area, which was saved, Dichio hasn't had a strike like that all year :)

Pretty sad that our seasons hopes currently rest on the shoulders of a 16 year old. He was the best TFC player tonight by a very very long shot.

The team overall is about as ferocious as a lemming.

Ya U-17 doesn't count. You have to to play a full international (capped) in a Senior International "A" game, then your committed.

Thats why Judas took so long to play for the Dutch senior team.

But someone please feel to correct me if they know for sure.

I'm not sure he's ready for a starting position. We need to bring someone in until he can develop a bit more, keep him as a sub right now.

But this kid is fuckin' phenomenal- nice find!

Ibby looked better in this one game than Cunningham ever has. The skill on this boy is much better than Cunny. His footy brain is better... his shot is harder... he knows how to run into space that doesn't involve a straight line directly at the keeper. Seems to have a mean streak too.

TFC07
07-12-2008, 10:42 PM
Dallas traded him because he was kind of home sick at the time and had no family around Dallas area. So they traded him to TFC because he got family in Toronto.

Ibrahim's performance gives us just a taste of what it would be like if we had some dynamism up front. The guy's a kid, the next game he may be a dud, but as debuts go, this was a great one.

Ibee reminds me a lot of Jozy Altidore.

Very similar players in their movement, positioning, thinking of the game...from what ive seen so far.

I kept saying... no way this kid is 16! Nice forged birth certificate... lol

I think he is older than 16 for sure but since he was born in Ethopia i don't think he got his birth certificate right away (same situation as Freddy Adu)

However even for a 19, 20 year old he is fantastic! He is a great striker with lots of potential!

noochie
07-12-2008, 10:54 PM
He is great on the ball from what I have seen of him so far. Far more dynamic than anyone we have on the team with possibly the exception of Guevara. He will make defenders look silly for a while at this rate.

And Guevara's job controlling, and finding him was nothing to sneeze at either. Those two look like they could connect alot.

Tonight was the first time I think I've seen Ibrahim play for Toronto (I believe he played in the game against Vancouver, but didn't see it myself). I still can't believe the level of skill and energy he showed out there. For a sixteen year-old he put a lot of our top men to shame. I have to agree with Rocker about his tactical mind. He certainly positioned himself well.

guys he is still young, and being young means his play wont be steady. In the future he is going to be dynamite, but for now we need a proven DP striker. This might solve a bit of our problems that the team is facing now!

Smith looked great his first game too.

Smith scored a goal from a set piece after doing not much. He looked great, but not excellent, and he certainly didnt influence the game much otherwise.

Ibrahim, on the other hand.

As soon as he came on, we had options like we never have, and he scored a sweet goal, took an incredible shot on goal from outside the box, harassed their defence AND midfielders for the ball, and didnt stop running once.

All round, he played like he was from a higher league and I cant wait to see him agaian at BMO. I've been saying for weeks that this kid needs minutes. If he really is older than 16 and his birth certificate is fucked, then we need to stop treating him like he's 16 and get him out there more often.

Let Cunningham play the friendly match, then sack him.

Everyone keeps saying 16. I'm guessing he just turned 17, as that's what MLS has in its story, and I assume they're going off the team sheet. Biggest problem we're going to have is keeping Europe's mitts off him.

A lot of people born in the third world, have no idea how old they are, this is fact.

If Ibrahim's birth certificate says 16, then that's a guess.

Fuck that Jay,

Stop drawing Lombardo comparisons, there are none.

Ibrahim is a better player than most on the squad, you couldnt say that of Lombardo. In 45 minutes he did things up front, that we've never seen done for our team, oh yeah and he scored an excellent goal. Anybody who thinks this kid is too green to play in our squad regularly, is overestimating the rest of our squad.

Let's be realistic: he had a very good game Saturday night but he's still a kid. Don't expect too much from him too soon, that can ruin a good young player.

Mate, you and I both have seen kids careers ruined from being played too often at a young age. I was using Lombardo as a comparison for people that haven't. He's a recent comparison who people might actually be able to understand how it CAN and HAS ruined players. *not saying he was going anywhere*

If we start him, they'll automatically harass him, mark him and try to neutralise him. If they succeed there is no evidence to suggest our other players will capitalise on the extra space SJ are giving us by focusing on Ibbe.

Better he comes on when everybodies tired, like he did in Chicago. They couldn't contain his energy then, and he changed the game.

He is a relief for the midfielders.

He maes runs and can get onto through balls an attacks crosses.

Still has a lot to learn obviously but has a lot of talent, he would benefit a lot of a player like Dickov came in with his experience and all. Both Ebi and Dickov run defeners down and hardly give them any time to play the ball so that would be a huge benefit.
