Morning D!

1st clean sheet of the season.

shame that draw didnt give us a point.
That was one of the toughest games to watch I can remember in recent memory.
Aweful, aweful performance from TFC.
Some of our matcvhes of late we could say we put on a good show.
Had determination, ambition and drive, but the bounces didnt go our way.
Not last night. a horrific, flacid display. . . I feel for frings, he must be thinkning. "what the fuck am I doing here?"

I was looking forward to avila, he was ELECTRIC. . . it didnt turn for him thsi time.
Adrian had the best game since he first signed. . probably becuasee he was forced to cover for the majority of the squad.

Its games like last night, that make me think I have invested FAR too much in my obsession with football.
I'm getting into Bocce, maybe curling. I hear the competitive trout fishing channel is going strong.

the thing that scared me is that defensively we were pretty solid. no stupid individual mistakes that lead to goals like we've seen all season. the problem with this is the fact that we had to sacrifice almost all of our attacking chances to get it. we were practically playing a 4-4-1 all night.

hmmm we got lucky a couple of times. One being in the first half when Acevail was out of position and had to run back and try and cover up for his mistake. he didn't get back, but the Montreal guy couldn't capitalize.

All due respect, are you being sarcastic? 0-0 result really puts the pressure on us at home next week, we have to win. Not to mention in some games we lost this year we played OK and at least looked determined. Last night was horrendous.

Sure we didn't lose, and sure, Winter may have got the result he was aiming for. But even then, you can't say we weren't lucky to get out of there without a goal conceded. Montreal just couldn't finish. Nyassi, in particular, was terrible. Considering all Montreal needs in the return leg is a 1-1 draw, I don't know why there is such enthusiasm about this result on the part of the players. Hey, I guess it beats losing, but it sure seems like a loss.

I am going to guess here on Barries behalf. I think he is reffering to the fact that we didn't make another mistake that lead to a goal (we did make mistakes) and we didn't loose away in Montreal. So a moral victory. Cup wise, yes, not so good.

It seems this team likes the role of underdog and they have certainly put themselves there. It killed me that GD was going on about 0-8 being avoided. Seperate competition, otherwise we have a win this year as well as a two other draws plus a nasty loss tacked on.

Definitely a moral victory for the boys.
I just hope they can ride it to Saturday and come through with a positive result.

A win against Dero and crew would be great not only for the team, but for the fans as well.

Shutout.....YESSSSSS! ha ha....as much as 0-0 is not ideal........they didn't lose and they didn't give up a goal. Puts some pressure on us to hold them off the score sheet again and score at home. Hopefully Koef and Soolsma can add some spark next wednesday.

We wonder why more people who didn't grow up with football, don't enjoy football - games like that is part of the reason. Sure every sport has dog-games, but a National semi-final is not where you want to see them...

My plan was to watch Montreal/Toronto, then Edmonton/Vancouver - but when the final whistle went I was spent by watching that paint dry...

Just dreadful... For us, ya it worked out, we have a 0-0 aggregate heading home and I guess that was the plan. But to be a 6th year club, hanging on in a 70% empty, cavernous stadium against an expansion team is pretty embarrassing...

Its tough to judge if we were good or not - as we're playing an expansion team that didn't finish the odd chances they created... No counter attacking football at all... I remember 1-shot and it was from such a distance, not hit well, and right at Ricketts that a 9yr old keeper would keep it out...

I've been doing my best "stay positive" routine, but FFS...
At least there's hope at 0-0, perhaps we gain a win at home and move on - something, anything, to build on...

Putrid performance aside (and I am not as gung-ho about a 0-0 draw as some of you not because I want Winter gone but because that is actually the 2nd worst possible result for us aside from an actual loss in Montreal) I have to comment on that pitch. What the hell was that??? :eek6:

I always used to be a "glass half full" type of guy, but this team is slowly sucking the life out of me. Maybe it's overexposure to Roogs and Exiled recently (I keed, I keed!) but I'm becoming way more of a cynic than I ever used to be in regards to this club. Just disappointing - this was supposed to be the season we turned the corner at last, and it started out so well in the CCL. Instead, we've just been served a platter of steaming shite.

This is the twilight zone.

0-0 is a terrible result in an away first-leg. If the plan was to put our team on the back foot in its own stadium, then Winter should be removed. There is no excuse for not trying to get that away goal.

And we seem to be ignoring the fact that Montreal had no finish. If Nyassi was 10% better (or, God forbid, they get a DP striker who doesn't get injured and can actually play) it wouldn't be close.

I think I need to revert back to the year one plan of drinking excessively on game days so I don't care about results and start enjoying my TFC days again. How sad is that.

Note to MLSE - drinking excessively on booze purchased from anyone but you.

Wake me up from my drunken stupor when things have turned around. Cheers. :drinking:

The fact that we took such a conservative strategy was actually pretty brazen. To think that we could get a point and keep a clean sheet was unprecedent this season. I can't believe the tiki-taki passing they kept trying to play with. At least half the time they'd lose the ball with a last pass to the opposition. It looked like they were playing one touch no matter where the ball ended up.

We've seen them score this year and I think they can score vs Montreal next Wed but not playing like last night.

Terrible game I agree, but if you want to look at a potential positive then think of this:

We just played our lungs out at altitude against the best team on the weekend and are gassed. Coach knows this, realizes we need points in the league so he implements a plan to leave some legs on the bench for Saturday and use limited energy to get out of town with a tie, albeit a 0 - 0 tie with no away goal that is not the best result, but a tie none the less.

If you look at it from this perspective then that has potential positive in it. With our schedule and injuries we're not going to be able to go full out to win every game all the time, max pressure, max running, max max max. WE DON'T have the DEPTH. So this is a reasonable explanation.

Of course having said that I'm not Winter/DeK. so I don't know this for sure but I'm sure there are at least 2 people that came close to convincing me last night that they have to go, that will completely disagree with this possibility. ;)

I'm with ya on the trying to find the positives. But that performance last night was nothing short of dreadful. The only reason that game came out 0-0 was the fact Montreal were crap as well. There have been some moments in games we can point to as positive this year. But we're reaching to try and take something positive out of last night.

If our positive is we didn't concede a goal against an expansion side who arguably played their worst game so far this year then that's sad.

I'll be cheering on Saturday but it's getting harder by the game.

Don't think for a second I was happy in any way about last nights complete lack of performance by TFC. But, if we win next Wednesday at home... it will seem better. Specially if we have gas in the tank for Saturday's game and pull off some points there too.

Just trying (REALLY HARD) to find a positive.

tried to post a photo, but it wouldn't let me, click here to go check out the pictorial version of our game last night. (https://www.google.ca/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=540&q=badly+parked+bus&gbv=2&oq=badly+parked+bus&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=img.12...2734.8812.0.10359.18.10.1.7.7.0.79.6 43.10.10.0...0.0.MI3srZ0GtFk)

That's how I look at our performance last night, technically, the bus is parked, but it's a shitty job. yes we got the 0-0, and I have absolutely no problem with playing a defensive game if necessary to get a result, but that wasn't close to a good defensive performance. all the usual problems were there, the individual mistakes (henry, who had a generally good game, just letting the ball run out of play when he though a foul might get called. wtf) the chances from set pieces, the long balls over the top catching out the offside trap. so far, teams have been punishing us for that sort of thing, only reason we got the 0-0 is that montreal was crap, kocic did well when necessary and lambe was there to bail out kocic when he failed.

I've always been a fairly cynical person, but I'm finding it close to impossible to watch and come up with any kind of positives these days.

I think it's about bad as the concrete at Giants Stadium that NY used to play in. Even Gilette Stadium is better

The Pitch at Olympic Stadium was probably temporary/removable, laid down in strips & not attached well together, so they can change the surface for different events -- similar to what we had for the LA CCL game in the Rogers Centre (which was also crap, yet TFC didn't play as crappy in that game). So yes that makes it more irregular & bumpy than permanent installations like in Gillette Stadium, or what BMO used to be. (BMO just got really worn down, which also made it bad over time.)

A truly sad note, the turf at the Big-O is held together by Velcro and was "pressed" pre-season to give it the 'natural grass appearance' on TV...

Instead of grooming it up, so the players impact is somewhat eased (with the zamboni style system bringing the pellets & plastic blades of turf up), more of true ball movement, they 'pressed it' down so it looked like it was cut-grass for TV... Brutal :(

Have to agree, here.

I wonder if anyone watches the player interviews, anymore; Lambe seemed to concede that the turf was a major concern for Winter and, thus, he implemented a less popular approach which would see them make less mistakes (remember Harden's howler, anyone?). The points that Bones makes, above, further compound things.
