I kind of like the guy to be truthful.

He doesn't get up the field like Morgan does, but at the LB spot he seems to do the job defensively and can play the ball from his feet. Looked terrible at the CB spot, but that was a big ask considering his experience and the shit-show that is the rest of our team.

While midfielder Julian de Guzman stated he's not thinking about it, Johnson admitted that the prospect of TFC tying the dubious mark fills his thoughts.

seriously? JDG....do you only care about the pay cheque you are getting every 2 weeks?

I think in this particular case I don't blame him. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he dwells on this record, it may distract him from doing what he needs to do to help the team avoid it.

I think his long experience in the pros is what helps him do that. Johnson is younger and less experienced. He may not know how to put records and infamy into perspective.

I would prefer a professional would be able to focus on the important thing which is to do his job effectively. Only then can they make progress and get points.

I think he means he needs to focus on just winning this game and the task at hand. If you focus on records and all the other stuff it can distract you. I'm sure every player is well aware of the record and does not want to have their name attached to it. They can't play against the record. They are playing RSL and need to focus on beating them.

Come on man!

He gave the politically correct answer, where as Johnson spoke from his heart.

not everything is about his salary, the way people are roasting him I guarantee the results and his poor performance are on his mind.

its already been rumoured he is leaving so right now the JDG discussion is really:deadhorse:

Plata's transfer fee

by Duane Rollins (http://redpatchboys.ca/forums/member.php?81-Duane-Rollins)

Canadian Soccer News has learned that Toronto FC paid a transfer fee of $500,000 for Joao Plata.

Information obtained from a well placed staff member suggested that the transfer fee was per-determined prior to Plata going on loan with MLS in 2011 and that all clubs were aware of the fee when he was available to be drafted. It's likely that the fee is what allowed Plata to drop to the third round of the SuperDraft.

CSN was told that Paul Mariner and Aron Winter were unaware of the fee when they drafted Plata.

Generally, transfer fees are either paid down through allocation money, or the fee is distributed over a player's entire contract. In the latter's case, Plata's cap hit would be higher than his actual salary throughout his time in Toronto.

Regardless, it would appear that the signing of Plata has further handcuffed Toronto's ability to sign more players in 2012. There is some indication that the signing of Geovanny Caicedo would have helped to reduce that fee but that has yet to be confirmed.

CSN will have more on this story and its inner workings in the days ahead

I wonder if Earl Cochrane knew? If so, why didn't he tell Mariner (who was in charge of TFC's SuperDraft strategy)? Oversight?

Emory has actually looked our best defender so far this season. He needs a start and an extended run in the first team.

Why do you think he's a bad player?

I think that's the key point here. Both Mariner and Winter were hired one week before the SuperDraft. The guy who had been doing most of the preparatory work was Cochrane.

Considering the screw ups over the Sidra and Ent contract offers, the trade of our first round pick for Nathan Sturgis  ... and let's not forget the DeRo fiasco (which had a helluva lot to do with Earl), Cochrane's involvement has to be studied further.

But wouldn't that 500k make him a DP? Or, is that money payed out through the time Plata is at the club, and not in one season?

Blizzard

Ya, Rollins mentions that. Over the life of the contract so a five year deal would mean 100k per year, a four year deal would mean 125k per year etc etc etc.

This has always been an issue with TFC - who has been the contract specialist? When RSL got Kreiss to coach they also got him a fomer player-turned lawyer in Lagerway to handle business. TFC has had the same business people from the beginning. There's probably a fair amount of territoriality in the office - as there is in most offices.

Ya I can see that. Of course, Mariner was brought in to help Winter get through this type of thing although at that point in time it would have been Cochrane.

Maybe but both were only a week into the job at the time of the draft. While Mariner would be more comfortable with the whole situation than Winter (it was probably completely alien to him), I think it's more on Earl as he was the guy prepping for the SuperDraft.

Wtf is wrong with you people, emory of all center backs besdides can is porbably the best. Hes good with the ball at his feet and at defending. He never made a mistake yet, and that penalty vs montreal was Harden's fault for giving a horrible back pass.

When things are this bad there isn't a single person in the TFC organization that shouldn't be lookin themselves in the mirror and asking if they could have done a better job. From Tom A right down tot the guy who cleans the water bottles. As far as I'm concerned everyone has something to answer for.

Impossible they did not know. ALL loan deals into MLS have a buy out (transfer) option in them. ALL. MLS does not allow anything else. That said, who says the transfer amount was not negotiated last winter. Recall how much time it seemed to take to complete his purchase? Like the Eck deal, a team can always share future transfer fees back to prior clubs.

Do you still think that Plata fell to the very bottom of the superdraft without some contract baggage?

jeez
