Time for the lads to pick themselves up, put last night's game behind, take the positives and get us a win at Mtl!
It won't be easy as Montreal played very well away at RSL, and unlucky to get a point out of that game last night. Montreal's playing better after every game so far, and they will be coming at TFC in search for their first ever MLS win

I'd like to see

---------Kocic
Ecks-Henry-Harden-Morgan
-----Stinson-Dunfield
-----------Silva
-Soolsma----------Plata
-------Koevermans

Subs
Rowe
Aceval
Burgos
De Guzman
Lambe
Avila
Johnson

-Aceval is either not completely match fit after injury, or he just had a terrible game. Either way, Henry deserves a start, even if it's just to try out a different combination at CB
-RJ needs a day off. Was totally gassed out by mid 2nd half vs Santos
-JDG needs to be made an example of. Two games in a row with critical errors leading to goals. Stinson deserves a chance too

I am looking forward to this epic match, the CCL run is behind the boys now, time to look forward. Hopefully with Danny K and the capped tied guys they can turn it on Saturday and leave a big mark on the pitch in Montreal.

It's a shame a game of this magnitude, with so many people going, fell when it did. I think the risk of us playing poorly is very high.

RSL players said the letdown post-CCL was a huge factor in their MLS season last year.

Of course, expectations for RSL in the CCL last year were very high going in, unlike TFC. Sure, there could be some letdown, but there was enough good play (even last night) for it to have the opposite effect.

Keep Cann out of this game with the turf, Let Stinson and Henry have a full 90min chance, and Koev's needs to get a goal.

I'm feeling TFC's first clean sheet. 1-0.

Of all MLS games I really want TFC to win this weekend. We can't be Montreal's first win and on a personal note I don't want to have to hear any snide remarks from my family in Montreal about this game. Do it for me TFC!

Here's hoping last night's loss to Santos Laguna will motivate the boys to kick Montreal's miserable ass. They should be anyways. There's no way in hell for them to be 0-4 to start the season.

Guys, I don't think we even have to worry about this game. It isn't going to happen.

I dreamed that, after last night's loss, Frings decided that he didn't want to play for us any more, and he went back to Germany.
North Korea quickly realized that, without the protection offered to us by Torsten Frings, we were extremely vulnerable. They decided to take advantage of this weakness, and they dropped a nuclear bomb on us.

I realize that this is, of all my TFC related dreams, the least likely to come to fruition. But still, you never know.

Anything short of a win will be a massive disapointment, we need to win this match really bad. Tough to say that in game 4 of the season but at 0-3 its a must win.

The last 30 minutes of last night's game is going to still be in our guys' heads, how could it not be.

I'm worried that AW will run out the same line up and the confidence level will be very low.

I'm excited to be at my first away game! But I don't hold out too much hope of a result. I'm going to say draw, because I don't want us to give Montreal their first league win! But - its set up perfectly for a Montreal win really - I think they would go crazy if their first victory was over their local rivals!

My heart says 1-1,
My head say 2-1 to Montreal :s

I'd prefer to see some new faces, maybe some players who weren't playing on Weds and won't bring any attitude with them to this game:

---------Kocic
Ecks-Henry-Emory-Morgan
-----Stinson-Dunfield
-----------Avila
-Lambe----------Plata
-------Koevermans

We haven't seen Hall yet this season, maybe could give Morgan a rest and give Hall some gametime? Cordon could probably do with some time too, but that would leave us fairly inexperienced in the middle of the field.

I've watched every Mtl game thus far and they show incremental improvement each game but are really, really toothless up front. That being said, if we line JDG and our other under performing mids up against Patrice Bernier and Felipe there will be issues. Bernier right now seriously looks like 10x the player JDG is and has me questioning the MNT's sanity for not putting him in a starting role.

TFC can win this game, if they avoid the defensive mistakes. Considering Montreal lacks attacking brilliance I think that should be an achievable task. However, I'd warn that they aren't as bad as their record indicates.

This is not going to be an easy game. The players interviewed after the Santos game look crushed, Montreal is at home needing a win badly and are pretty well organized, and after playing on that great pitch in Mexico the turf is not going to be fun.

I really think Winter has to sit the guys who have played 360 minutes in the Santos games and against SJ and Columbus (Harden, Eckersley, and Johnson - maybe Harden could play, but the other two have run too much, too hard). The risk of injury is too high, especially on plastic.

I'm still pissed about the Santos loss, not pissed at the fact that we lost to them, but that we f**king beat ourselves. The questionable reffing didn't help.

Anyway, as our focus and attention turns to league play, I really hope the boys aren't too demoralized, but I have a feeling team moral is pretty low at the moment thanks to the suicidal mistakes made in the Santos game. I hope I'm wrong.

Hopefully with the high number of away supporters, the boys will feed off of that and come out of Montreal with a full 3 points. Anything short of that will be a big dissapointment and leave us in a deeper hole than the one we are currently in.

Let's get 'em boys!

On both of them, although really Dunfield's fault as his original ball to JDG was behind him, forcing him to square it back.

This team can't build from the back. Not fast enough thinkers, not enough composure. We have to cut the crap and play through holders in the hole and up top.

*And I would note that proof of other players being fuckups is not a free pass for Aceval. Soplease save us the "see! it wasn't his fault! or "he's a scapegoat" stuff, anyone, before you start. Some of us also noted after Santos that JDG and Dunfield should be gone, too, and one person's inadequacy does not automatically validate or invalidate someone else.

They're playing the ball in through their wide men, in order to push Eckerlsey up and create space behind him for nyassi, in the belief Harden can't get across fast enough to cover. That's not eckersley's fault, it's strategy; and it has worked a couple of times.

That is on JDG not Dunfiled. You can't use the square ball under pressure.

And the scapegoating continues.

Dunfield should not be anywhere near the field today. He's a marginal player to begin with and when he's not playing well (like today) he's a horrible liability.

Had that been JDG who gave that ball away so easily and jogged casually afterward like dunfiled did I'm sure there would be no mention of square balls.

I could have controlled that ball and moved it along better than dunfiled. Then again, I can actually use my left foot for more than a kickstand..unlike dunfiled.

He fucking sucks hard.

I'll agree he started to lose his cool towards the end of the half. But that's because he's repeatedly having to cover for the midfield and play high. Strategically, Montreal's offense is working. Again, his individual performance has not been bad. He has not been beaten on the run, he hasn't blown a major tackle and he's won two cards coming forward.

He's not having a bad game. In fact twice, as AlanO noted above, he actually sprinted into the midfield to play wrecker, because DeGuzman and Dunfield dropped too deep, too quickly.

I've EXPLAINED that. It's not a matter of "seeing" something that doesn't exist. He's not out of position, he's covering the wide man because we have a three-man midfield being overwhelmed. That leaves him high on the pitch, with space behind him.

"Out of position" suggests he's being caught high on the break, and he's not. It's a tactical issue, not the player's fault.

John, I wonder if it's the arrogance that comes with corporate ownership hiring ex "stars". I've interviewed a lot of high-achieving athletes, and they tend to almost narcissistic in their self-assurance. Mo couldn't see his own mistakes, maybe Winter can't either.

We should have tactically switched to the system we used against Santos in the first game: tight going back first, then break through the forwards and have them hold it up to bring the other players in. It works for MLS. I'm not sure "build from the back" will unless everyone is competent, and that never seems to be the case.

Also have to wonder about motivation from a coach players say doesn't say much.

I like the way we play now. I like most of the players. But if the club's too inflexible to fix small problems that balloon into big problems, we're perpetually fucked.

Silva for Plata to shift tactics to make Dunfield and JDG officially sit at the back of midfield, which is a change, therefore, no longer need Ecks to play wing back (Ecks pushes up expecting JDG or Dunfield to cover deep, but both the DMs rushes up and down together leaving a gap either at the back or front, Ecks gets exposed). Henry back allows a more anchoring RB

As much as our mids are terrible our defenders aren't much better.

I mean is nobody else looking at Ferarri wearing blue and sensing an insane amount of jealousy? Is mistake free defending for one game too much to ask?

4 defeats to start the season. We could be out of play-off contention in a month.

I feel bad for everyone who made the trip. Hopefully the strip bars have some kid of free drink for those down on their luck....

Harden better not start next game after that horrible display of defending.

This organisation needs a reworking from top to bottom, I am fucking shocked at this start to TFC in the MLS season.

Either Wenger is a track star or Harden runs like a 70 year old.

As your players to fit a system that fits their capabilities.. build depth... scrap.

Hasn't really worked for them so far... but I get what they're trying to do.

Marsh > Winter

Maybe even more surprising, Saputo > MLSE.

Johnson is taking too long to settle the ball. I don't think he's adjusted to the pitch very well.

Nah, that would be enough points to solidly put us into the top 8. The question is: how are we going to get out of this funk and start winning games? Well, we've got a major problem, a midfield hole. The more pressure there is on DeGuzman to lead, the more he fails under it. I would like to suggest Jr. Burgos, but we haven't seen him in practice, just looking good in a couple of exhibition appearances. The book on him was as a creative force, not a defensive mid, but he did look good at it. If he's not ready, at the very least I'd suggest sitting Dunfield and moving Soolsma into that role, as he can play two ways -- he's a good tackler, can read the game and can pass. The question is whether he can stay central; given that he started in Holland as a striker, it seems likely. so maybe:
-------------Kocic---------------
Eckersley--Henry--Emory---Morgan
----------Soolsma---Burgos----------
--------------Silva-----------------------
----Johnson------------Plata--------
------------Koevermans----------------
Fuck it, play the talent and the heart, give the experience a rest, for all the good it's done us.

The more replays of the Harden backheel I see - the more I laugh. Its senseless.

The shocking thing is team isn't fit. Santos turned it up in the second half and left us behind. We've chased all game due to a total lack of fitness. Simple.
