Frei: 4 to 6 months for a Broken Fibula. It seems a bit long right? They just wanted him to go on IR so that they could bring someone else in. New Goalkeeper or Centre Back?

Further examination revealed torn ankle ligaments. So, not really.

Ligament damage was found which prompted the surgery and extended recovery.

I was talking to a scot the other day and he told me that Santos are one of Celtic's feeder teams...it's a fairly big club to be a feeder team isn't it. Incidentally, that's why they wear the colours they do too.

I'm pretty sure Santos was wearing green before their partnership with Celtic. I don't think its a "feeder" club situation, the two clubs just have a partnership, its more about developing business and sharing knowledge between the two clubs.

Would make a nice story, but I'm pretty sure their colours predate their relationship with Celtic....

Edit: i see i wa beaten to the punch ;)

Yeah, that's exactly what it is, there are few players who have actually played for both teams and the "partnership" only started in December 2010.

Just watched the most recent interviews on TFC TV from Mexico. Does anyone know who the guy was doing the interviews? A little better than the usual cookie cutter questions we get on there.

We can't use Frei's salary room to sign new players. The rules are clear for both short term and long term injury reserve and according to Mariner we don't have any cap room.

(K)SEASON-ENDING INJURY REPLACEMENTS (Season Ending Injury List)
A team with a player lost to a season-ending injury can place the player on the Season Ending Injury List and replace that player on its roster, while remaining responsible for the full amount of the injured player’s salary. A player can be placed on the season-ending injury list once another player has been signed as a replacement (provided the team has budget space). International player limits still apply at the time a season-ending replacement is made (with the player being replaced not counting against those limits).

(L) SHORT-TERM INJURY REPLACEMENTS (Disabled List)
A player who has a short-term injury can be placed on the Disabled List once another player has been signed as a replacement (provided the team has budget space). The team will remain responsible for the full amount of the injured player’s salary on the salary budget. Note: the injured player will have to sit out a minimum of six MLS League matches before he can rejoin the team’s roster.

Pretty good Sporting News story. Nice find.
I felt so too.

It’s not just the place in next month’s finals that’s up for grabs. Players, clubs and fan bases that had no knowledge or impression of each other two weeks ago now have history and even a little bit of venom. That raises the stakes and imprints on the collective memory. That’s how familiarity is bred and that’s how a title becomes more meaningful.

Suddenly, Wednesday’s game matters. And Gomez, while slightly sore at the Toronto media, loves it.
“I’m having (Mexican) people on Twitter telling me that they don’t cheer for Santos but they want to see us beat Toronto. We’re aware of it,” he told Sporting News. “It’s gotten kind of personal with both fan bases. It’s going to be a fun game to play. Games like that are fun.”

Finally, simply being the best in Mexico isn’t enough.

The Estadio Corona was nearly sold out as of midday Tuesday (there was a time when CCL games in Mexico were ignored)

“We know they’ll be amped for this game,” Gomez said of TFC, which earned its CCL berth by winning a qualifying tournament comprising Canada’s four pro clubs. “This is the biggest game in the franchise’s history. That’s either a benefit for us or it’s going to be very difficult to deal with … You’re going to see a team that’s going to come out and try to win. They have to. They’re a very aggressive team. You’re not going to see Toronto sit back and try to counter.”

Some pretty dramatic stuff. Even if only half those things are true, it raises the interest level on the game. I'm looking forward to viewing this match.

Never bring a gun to a fist fight - the guy throwing punches has no fear, and 9-of-10 people can't hit a human with a handgun from 5-feet away... ;)

Everything you can think of that could go wrong with a TFC victory is probably the worst thing that could happen.

1. A Win for TFC; fans invade the pitch and retaliate.
2. A Win for TFC; and someone on the Santos team gets escapegoated by the druglords.(ie. Andre Escobar-Colombia)
3. A Win for TFC; and they get food poisoning for the next 2 weeks.
4. A Win for TFC; and TFC fans go through the real life version of "The Warriors".
5. A Win for TFC; and the bus is lynched and team returns without Harden and Soolsma.(ie the two whitest guys on the team)

let's paste the rest of the portion of that article right now, shall we?

Harden's teams have accumulated only 63 points in his 62 starts. Future Olympian Andy Najar is right behind, only missing out on bottom by the thousandths column. It’s worth noting that despite that record, D.C. United’s games without Najar since his debut have been even worse (0.75 PPG).
Similarly, Dan Kennedy was lauded for having a stellar season a year ago on a poor Chivas USA team. So, in his case, making that list doesn’t equal being a bad player; the context is very important.

Andy Najar is one of best youth wingers in the league. Dan Kennedy is right now the best GK in the league.

Definitely don't want to make this a "thing", but it's an article that some might find interesting.

One columnist's opinion of the 10 best signings in MLS History. To be honest, by the time his time is done here, I would say Frings could deserve consideration. Mista? Not so much...LOL!

Yep. Signing DeRo is a great idea. Except for DP status.

Interesting and telling that some players are considered more than once in the report.
