A first test against MLS opposition.

It would be extra nice to beat Dallas. Feels like all the games from last year were eventful against them- first game for Koev and Frings, CCL and so on.

And Brek Shea pisses me off...

Don't really care for this one actually. I think the BK Hacken game is a good reflection of team progress. That's all I wanted to see. Now it's all about fitness.

They play a 4-4-2 like LA and pretty similar tactically. This is actually a very good team to be playing in warm up to LA.

As much as I'd like to be tested against Vancouver, because they haven't had a goal against them, I don't want our best line up in the finals.

Still Dallas will be a good indicator. I'm looking forward to watching tonight.

If TFC advances to the finals I can't imagine anything resembling a March 7th lineup for that game. Not going to be enough recovery time. For all intents and purposes I bet this will be the final tune up for our starters. It will be nice to see some positive momentum coming out of the game tonight carry over into the SkyDome.

Starting XI has been released.
Frei; Eckersley, Harden, Aceval, Morgan; Dunfield, Stinson, Silva; Johnson, Koevermans, Plata ..

I'd be surprised if this isn't what we see on March 7th.... well minus Frings instead of Dunfield or Stinson.

well dunfield actually played in that roll against Hacken, so the option is there to switch to the 3-4-3, and it's good to give Dunfield some time in that role.

No need for doom and gloom right now.

I think if Stinson performs, Dunfield will be on the bench the 7th.

As much as other kids are promising so far, I don't think they can handle 45,000 spectators and facing a very good squad of galaxy without choking... still need game minutes over time to be able to step in and perform on par

Oh no Borg is already making my ears bleed.

What a couple of dumbshit announcers. Making a big deal because Caicedo isn't playing a couple of games. How about, he's new to the team, coming off injury, and we've got decent depth in terms of people that need to given a try -- Maund, Harden, Henry, etc.

I don't mind clueless people so much, as I hate clueless people who pretend like they know what they're talking about.

J .
03-01-2012, 06:07 PM
The player I want to see have a go is Silva. With Frings not dropping back to make a three man defensive line, our fullbacks likely will have to be more reserved unless Dunfield or Stinson take up the Frings role. If the backs cannot get forward as much as they have, it will be on our AM to get the ball to our forward three.

Kaz
03-01-2012, 06:07 PM
Lambe getting a last chance? or is the dallas line up meaning johnson is getting a rest

Dallas played some cute football but no end product. TFC for the most part was the opposite. We out chanced them and our FWD players were better IMO.

Borg is annoying as hell but he has one thing right: Lambe just can't win a ball out there or hold his ground. He's looking like a sub at best right now.

im very disappointed in Lambe. From what I got when Winter talked about him, he was supposed to be this years Plata. A young, speedy winger, who would be able to get around the defender, speed away, and give a nice cross, or pop a shot on goal.

Nothing like what I envisioned him to be. He needs a LOT of work.

Not prepared to pull the plug on Lambe (or Caicedo) just yet, but they are not ready for prime time - that is true.

far too many people jumping to conclusions on some preseason games for one guy that was recently injured and another that hasnt played in what? 6 months? ill wait till half way through the season at most, 6 or 7 full games a piece at least

OK, TFC needs to sign a forward in the next week or two. A Soolsma-Lambe-Johnson forward line is not acceptable except for small periods, and what happens if both Johnson and Koevermans get hurt. If his attitude is right, they should also pick up Nguyen.

I follow Vancouver pretty closely, Nguyen was impressing early on. They have a lot of attacking players and he seemed to fall out of favour after the Le Toux trade and a small twitter scandal. I think he`s easily better than Lambe, although there could be an issue with how motivated he is to play for a Canadian team.

i'm most happy to see some solid defending in play ... we pressured the ball well, and had good balanced cover on most dallas attacks ... we didn't really give up any good chances, and no brain farts in our box lol

Well for those wondering if we sucked... for the first 30 minutes it was not great. Dallas basically marked everyone they could very tight, and closed down very well. It caused a lot of issues, and no one in the mid field could make anything work.

Then around 30 minutes it started to change.

There are problems, by late April things should look very good...

I'm a little worried about the March 7th game but not very.

im very disappointed in Lambe. From what I got when Winter talked about him, he was supposed to be this years Plata. A young, speedy winger, who would be able to get around the defender, speed away, and give a nice cross, or pop a shot on goal.

Nothing like what I envisioned him to be. He needs a LOT of work.

I never really got that impression from Winter but at the same time, he's not going to say something unencouraging about a new signing.

That said, Lambe is a Mariner signing so let's give credit (or discredit) where it's due. Mariner got us Ecks! Thank you. Mariner has gotten us Lambe. The jury is deliberating. My current thinking is that he's a bit of an Andy Welsh but we shall see for ourselves soon enough.

T-boy
03-01-2012, 09:35 PM
Its way too early to judge Lambe. Give him at least a month of MLS playing time before we can tell what he's going to be like - that goes for any of the new signings.

Silva looked good today. I have to say there is a little hope. One game absent and one game influential. Lets hope he continues that when it counts.

Lambe is a fast player but he rarely made a positive contribution I thought.

I wonder if they will bring someone in to back up DK full time. I dont know if he will be able to handle the grind of playing down in hot July weather when the first teamers are out with injury or international play and the ankle kickers come out in full effect.

I think you are spot on about the team performance, really hard to see how the team performed as it was so fractured with all the subs, that said I agree with Borg that there seemed to be a bit of connection with Plata and Silva.

It is a shame that the CCL game is next week it almost gets in the way of the season's preparation, yet it might just be a really good set of games to mold the team.

The question is now which trialists make the cut, and who plays this weekend.

"TFC will play the Vancouver Whitecaps, who blazed through the group stage, in the championship match on Saturday at 8 pm ET. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN 3 (at this time unavailable in Canada)."

Really hope we can see this online somewhere. I guess they didn't exspect two Canadian teams to make the final.

Kaz
03-01-2012, 11:05 PM
awesome world classic if only one country gets to see the final, and neither team is from that country... good work... Ya they really didn't expect two Canadians teams to fight it out.... at least it won't be most of the starters.

Interesting if Avilia gets to play it will be the second year in a row that he's been in the final match... and last year if was FC Dallas vs Houston for the first place match... this year they are playing each other again but for the third place spot.

yes, sure no shea and ferreira, but we were without some of our keys also .. well in the 2nd half it was mostly our reserves and trialists against theirs, and we did well defensively, so i like to see that optimistically as an indication of good defending from the team overall

This was a welcome an improvement over last years's pre-season, when TFC were sheepishly back-passing to Frei at every opportunity. Even though there were subs aplenty and Dallas was flaccid, we looked like a team.

To put things into perspective:

-Result met the expectations
-There was nothing amazing or surpising in beating a 2nd Dallas squad
-There are clear weaknesses within TFC that other teams can and WILL exploit
-There are very strong and encouraging signs of potential for some players on this team

Because it was weak Dallas squad, this game tells us very little as to where TFC is against real competition. Also, we have yet to see TFC's "best" 11 starting together.

You guys cant lie, our midfield was too scared with the ball and lost all of its duels, our defence was horrinble (because of Harden mostly), our passing was way off in the first 20 mins. WE NEED TO BE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE BALL AND MAKE GOOD PASSES! by the way, lambe isnt used to the phyiscallity and his passes are too predictable which is why its always intercepted. if we can leanr these mistakes, we will be the best team in the mls for sure

Seriously 3-0 and it sounds like we were shit. I don't care if they were missing Ferrera, Shea and a bunch of starters, we played a lot of rookies, trialists and home grown players. The fact that our rookies, trialists and homegrown players are actually decent and ended up pummelling them.

And we were missing Frings.
