An email I received from GO today:

On Wednesday March 7th, Raptor basketball and TFC soccer fans can leave your post event travel worries to us.
To get you home after the evening's events, in addition to our scheduled hourly service, we will operate 2 extra trains: one westbound to Aldershot departing Union at 23:13 and another eastbound to Oshawa departing Union at 22:43.
We hope you enjoy your evening event and have a safe ride home with GO Transit.

Thanks. This is great news.....for eastbound anyway.

^^ This is good news for both as it adds a train inbetween the typical one hour wait. The eastbound trains would typically leave at :13 past the hour, every hour and westbound at :43 past the hour. Now trains are going both ways at 10:43 and 11:13.

Westbound
9:43
10:43
11:13
11:43

Eastbound
10:13
10:43
11:13

Now if only we could get some extra trains/buses out on the other lines. I can't imagine what it will be like on the GO Buses as they pack them in, even if you have to stand in the aisles.

great move and necessary too- imagine double the usual attendance and crowded onto Union 's narrow platforms instead of the Ex. Raptors are home that night too- it'll be a zoo even with the extra train

good to see, they should do it more often tho. Im living in London now, and they actually add special trains for for football fans often. As last month i went to see crystal palace play and as i was waitting for the train at Clapham junction they announced on the speaker that all crystal palace fans should go to platform 3 as there was a special train travelling from Clapham station straight to Selhurst park just for Palace fans. And after the game at the stadium they announced the Cardiff fans train will be leaving the station at 11:15 back to Cardiff. I've never herd them ever anounce anything at stations or at BMO field before for special trains for TFC, Leafs, Raptors or blue jay fans.

I don't see the benefit to the 23.13 westbound train for our purposes. The TFC game is scheduled to end around 21.45. Adding an extra train that leaves an hour and a half after this is pretty useless. Most people will be gone on the 22.43 train, which itself is almost an hour after the game ends. Even with crowds you'd get there on time after the game ends without hurrying.

For TFC purposes, they should have added a 22.13 train, which would have been useful to take some of the volume from the 22.43 train and would have removed the temptation for people to leave early and grab the 21.43 train, which plenty of people will probably do.

That said, don't know what's going on with Raptors in terms of timing and also don't know how easy it is or isn't to just throw an extra train on the tracks and hope it doesn't screw things up! Not grumbling too much, it's good that GO did this, but for our purposes a 22.13 train westbound would have been much more useful if it could have been done...

A 22:13 train would only be useful to those who were leaving early or rush out. If the kick-off isn't late (and it will be) and the half isn't longer than 15 minutes, then you might be able to get people to the train on time.

90 minutes of soccer, 5 minutes stoppage time, 15 minute half and you are already at 9:50 if everything goes to plan. Throw in 46,000 people leaving the stadium and the walk to Union for TTC and GO riders.

Union will be a complete friggin zoo and the roads will be clogged too. It'll be a long night but we've waited months for this so who cares howl ong it takes to get home!

Not quite yet, but by the time TFC makes it to the playoffs, the subway should be ready... :D

So they add a extra train going westbound at 23:13. Danny Dichio have anything to do with that?

people forget its about 15mins walk from sky dome to Union. It would make alot more sense adding the extra train at 10:20ish and then 10:43 train heading westbound.

people forget its about 15mins walk from sky dome to Union. It would make alot more sense adding the extra train at 10:20ish and then 10:43 train heading westbound. They always like to run on their xx:13/xx:43 schedule. But perhaps it would have.

Might be a 15-minute walk from Rogers to the subway station at Union. But for GO, you only have to walk to the York teamway and then onto a platform. Only a 10-minute walk. Game should be over before 10 pm, so you'd think a 10:13 train would have been good for many. As far as I know the basketball game starts at 7 pm, so I'd think it would be over by 9:30, with some perhaps on the 9:43 train, and the rest on a 10:13. And some TFC fans on the 10:13 and the rest on the 10:43. The 11:13 westbound choice does seem odd.

The extra 10:43 eastbound makes more sense ... though I expect that the 10:13 eastbound will be qutie full, given most of the Raptors fans should be on it - though I don't know how many they draw really.

I just wish they'd fulfill their promise of going to a 30-minute schedule ... and this would just be so simpler.
