Bouchiba Waived By Toronto (http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2012/02/bouchiba-waived-toronto)

is this not the guy we held on to for an entire year? jesus tap dancing christ, his TFC release page sums it up best in it's sentence.

^^^ well last year because he was injured in pre-season, I don't think his salary was held against the cap, as well he occupies an international spot. Along with that, his position is also our deepest.

I think some of those early signings like Yourassowsky and Martina were overpaid and Bouchiba fits that bill too.

There is a simple explanation for Bouchiba: under the MLS CBA, you can't release injured players under contract. He might have been released earlier if he hadn't been injured.

You also have to ask if Bouchiba recovered fully from his injury.

What is the date they could release him? They kept him for some of preseason, so that at least implies that they didn't write him off last year and wanted to have a look at him in preseason.

Winter has some really difficult decisions ahead of him. Orozco, Burgos and Greene have all looked pretty good. A case can be made for all three. Releasing Bouchiba at least gave us a little space. But we're in the interesting position in that a good player is not going to make the team.

When is the roster deadline?

I'm going to miss Buchiba. He was the best injured player I never got to see. His interview skills talking about his injury were awesome. His commitment to nurturing his injury was second to none. Having brought himself back to half fitness, I'm sure he could've maybe sort of almost did something special here.

Tomorrow is the "roster compliance date". I think this means all teams have to be within salary cap, roster size, signed international player limits, etc by march 1. Players can still be signed until sometime in april so trialists can stick around for a while.

Some good trialists and draft picks this year.
