Just watched the highlights. Sinclair is a very good footballer. Her skill and composure under pressure is great to see. Congrats to our ladies!

And how excellent it is to see 22k to watch a women's team. Football is indeed on the rise in Canada.

Its going to be a fantastic repeat of Edmonton. 40K+ watching U19 girls, that was a phenomenon that can't be understated.

I'm sure the final will draw 30K+, really hoping for 50K, the women's game is better than the men's in this country that's for sure. :hide:

As always, thanks for the news summary!

I just read the above article, which deserves :facepalm::facepalm: out of :facepalm::facepalm:

Nobody knows anything about the Canadian U23 squad yet; the coach doubles as the assistant coach of the senior team; they will have almost no time to prepare compared to other teams in the tournament. Note that this is not just any event: it's the CONCACAF men’s Olympic qualification tournament!! (And people wonder why some young players chose to play for other countries that take this whole footy business a bit more serious, and figure out how to prepare for success, despite any handicaps they may have.)

The tournament timing also seems disastrous, both for European-based players, and MLS players -- especially TFC with the extra CCL games. Mini-camp some time in March; TFC's first game in Nashville on March 22nd. Not only are there league & CCL games in March: U23 players may often be draft picks or academy players/home growns, trying to solidify a spot on their pro teams. CONCACAF deserves a kick in the ass. Why not have the tournament in the middle of winter, in a warm location, when most teams are taking a break anyway?

They do own the team. And the Raptors game on TSN yest was pre-empted by the Toronto Rock game, which had Raptors fans FREAKING out. The lesson, as always, they can never win.

and on Sunday, the Raps are on TSN2 while the Pro Bowl is on TSN which can be seen on CBS anyway.

Yup. The Canadian men's U-23 team is the red-headed stepchild of the entire program.

They made it to the semi finals last time around, and in a short tournament anything can happen. Still, I believe that any success tis team sees will be in spite of the preparation, not because of it.

I meant of course, Canada's first game is in Nashville on March 22nd (not TFC's).

That's right, in 2008 the U23 men made it to the semi-final of the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, but lost there to the US -- which means they didn't make it to the Olympics in Beijing. Of course that was a tough semi-final match-up after beating Haiti & Mexico (wow!) in the group phase -- but as others mentioned, any success they may have this year, will be in spite of their preparation.

If so, must win Gold Cup. Being allowed into this tourney any other way is dishonourable.
