In my mind the length of today's press conference and amount of people attending it reflects where TFC stature in this city. While we all here follow the club day in and day out, the majority of this city and beyond. When you consider the tv ratings and media exposure for the most part TFC for most people is an in stadium experience and outside of those 2 hours during the game the club really is of no concern to them.

It's a good thing. A little more strength and size will help him deal with the bigger players in the MLS. At 18 or 19 years old he is still going to fill out a bit.

A joint project between a municipality and a pro sports team ALWAYS always always has overruns. Remember skydome/olympic stadium/everything for the Vancouver olympics? In the end cost almost or more than twice as much as they shouldve. Gotta love mass inefficiency

Is it inefficiency?

I just know that what a customer asks for and what they get are sometimes two different stories. Often they expect upgrades or make changes on the fly due to compliance or just out right re-design that costs time and money.

If it were double the price, yup, I could see inefficiency as a point, but a couple million on a multi million dollar facility just says changes and upgrades.

That's true, but it's just so consistant I feel like there has to be something more than that. It's not like the public sector has a great track record of doing things on budgets, and I mean it happens with every stadium (wasn't BMO something like 10% more than it was supposed to be also?). Could also be teams/politicians not wanting to show the public a huge number that they'll say no to, so instead lowball the cost and gradually increase till it hits the real number.

Who wants to be the guy who bids 22 million (and loses the contract) instead of 18 million (and gets the contract. then charges 22 mil anyways). And who wants to be the politician who accepts a bid that isn't the lowest possible number

This isn't a joint project. The price has gone up because the scope of work has increased. TFC is funding it all.

Paul, you live!

Whoa! I thought you vacated these parts Paul! Shows what I know. I really thought there was government involvement for some reason. Well then good work, keep making MLSE spend on TFC ;)

Is it inefficiency?

I just know that what a customer asks for and what they get are sometimes two different stories. Often they expect upgrades or make changes on the fly due to compliance or just out right re-design that costs time and money.

If it were double the price, yup, I could see inefficiency as a point, but a couple million on a multi million dollar facility just says changes and upgrades.

could be changes to the project, but i'd suspect a lot has to do with a couple of minor changes that add up in combination with materials being a bit more expensive from when the estimate was to now...maybe the decided that to build a more green building (LEED-certified) that uses less electricity/water etc...well then the materials needed to do that in the short-term are going to be more expensive, but in the long-term the maintenance costs and operational costs are going to be less than expected and it will equal out over x amount of years and then any years above that will be money saved, so in the longggg term, they actually end up spending less

i think (don't quote me on this) its an agreement between Downsview Park (are they a not for profit?) and Toronto FC/MLSE

TFC fronting the cost for some of their facilities being available to public use and the cost of the land is significantly less or leased or some sort of an agreement

What I thought was funny: Caicedo being asked in today's interview, if TFC staff had spoken with him about joining the team, last summer after the Canada - Ecuador game at BMO Field.

Totally unimaginable, that would be tampering!!! :D

To me that's the RCB one. If 2 is RB and 1 the GK, then 3 should be RCB.

Number 3 is traditionally a LB

1 GK
2 RB
3 LB
4 CB
5 CB

number 3 in our system is RCB.

bob de klerk did a whole series of little half-time vignettes near the start of last season explaining the whole system they wanted to put in place, and the numbered formation that he was using was...

-------1------
---3------4---
2------------5
---6------8---
------10------
7-----------11
-------9------

I missed the video live as I had class, but it looks like they didn't even realize that Bouchiba was here last year as well haha/.

There was an element of professionalism this media day as they had so many players to interview, returning players, hopefully positive draft picks. The set looked a cut above the previous renditions. I understand that the event was not at BMO field, it had the look of a well oiled production.

I thought the media day started pretty weak (opening Q&A with the management team), but then picked up, and I liked all the interviews.

IMO we also saw a bit of Winter's "football first" philosophy. As far as I remember, in previous seasons, we had a media day with the interviews; then we had another day for player pictures; then a third day where the players would go somewhere to be fitted in fancy suits. This year, it seemed to all happen on the same day & at the same place. Get that all out of the way; other days can be devoted to footy & recuperation again.

yeah there was one point where everything looked so slick on TV that I was like "shit, this is MLS?"

I mean, can you imagine that kind of TV production for San Jose or Columbus? Nope.

I was thinking the same thing. I think in some ways it echoes the preparations of this year. The main squad is almost set, I am wondering if we will see the 2nd South American on Monday or Tuesday.
