Throughout this tournament, I've been watching the opposition strikers to see how and why they are in the USL where as Cunny is making crazy money in the MLS. As of yet, I've still to figure it out.

Seriously, why do we even keep the guy any longer? That Zebrango guy would be an improvement, really.

what frustates me even more is that Carver plays him 90 minutes. No, this isn't a bash Carver post. But fuck sometimes he makes the craziest changes to me and keeps on Cunningham.

Dude, he was inexplicably onside with 35 yards still to go before he reached the 'keeper and he had no fucking idea what to do.

It should have been moot.

Marco Reda would've done better than he did with that.

He ran straight at the Nolly, did some lame-ass Ronaldo stepover and flopped to the ground. And then... then... - oh, christ, this could be the best bit - when Nolly offers him a hand up he pulls away like a petulant child, and remains seated while play continues.

Its funny - he actually made a nice play on our first goal... Effort down the side, nice touch header, got the ball in...

Otherwise, he's not only useless - he's hurting us...!!! Smith might not get as many breaks as Cunny (as he has speed), but he'd score 5-times more...

As said earlier in the thread by Roogsy, I hate ragging on our players as well, but WTF is he doing out there for 90-minutes when he can't score???

...but he was offside ...and he didn't beat the keeper so...

Sure strikers go through dry spells and you have to be patient. But what frustrates me about cunny is his lack of intelligence. He hesitated on that breakaway at the beginning, I was like "PLAY THE EFFING WHISTLE", you could see that put him off, it took a second or two for him to go into gear and I think that blew his confidence. It's like he was scared of being embarrased like last game at BMO.

His brain really holds him back. It's too bad...

Unfortunately, with Cunningham, we use the word 'if' quite a lot. How many games do we have to have where we're saying "if he'd..." before we firmly decide he's not getting the job done and move on?

I'm not saying to Smith per se, but to a striker we bring in in Cunny's place. Smith still has to work on how he carries the ball.

there was a play where somebody (ricketts?) passed a ball along the left side of the box and instead of running for it, cunny failed to anticipate, and ended up running directly to the goal. it was such a bad idea, but it's a run he fucks up every time, particularly if Robert is the one making the pass. His footballer IQ is not good enough. Even the dumb-ass play by play guy commented on the bad run.

I wonder if he made a name for himself in this league in a time when
the quality was lower (defense, and goalkeeping) and now he's being tested more often... no more running straight at the keeper and the keeper fucking up.

Regarding why Carver is playing him -- maybe he's trying to showcase him for a trade and hoping Cunny pops a few so they can move him soon.

Anyhow, the diving is getting on my nerves too. Now he wants his 100th goal so bad he's willing to dive to get it.. that's sad.

I was willing to give this guy a chance in the spring (although I actually preferred Samuel!) but now Cunny means nothing to me. Even if he scores the winner against Montreal on the 22nd, it's not enough to get me on his bandwagon.

Off topic but there is a guy in 220 i think with a Welsh jersey. My wife and I both were thinking man what a mistake that was. At what point last year did you go "Man, Andy is playing well. He'll be here for awhile. I should get his name on my jersey!"? Think he's regretting it now?

I am absolutely sick of seeing this guy sitting on the floor with his bottom lip protruding out like a child's.

His face is getting on my nerves.

That was his worst missed sitter yet, I couldnt believe it.

He hesistates, he realises the goalie is bearing down on him, there is about a 10 percent chance the goalie will stop the shot, so he panics and falls over.

Brutal.

What happened to letting the kid play?

at this stage, as a stop gap measure, I'd go with Smith.
But hopefully with the arrival of July 15 we'll get someone far and away better than any of these guys.
Cunny is finished in my mind. I was so willing to give this guy a break, but I'm done.
Even if he scores a goal on saturday, I'll be so skeptical. He can't win me back now. There will always be doubt in my mind no matter if he nicks a couple goals soon... it'll be like "when's the next goal drought?"
At the start of the season I just felt like maybe he just needs good service. now he's getting it and still fucking up.
I realize now he's not a guy that fits any sort of scheme. You bang long balls to him -- he can't beat a defender cuz a strong defender just takes him off the ball, he goes offside too much, and he psyches himself out when he's one-on-one with a keeper.
And then, if you try to give him nice balls around the back of the defense, he can't make the proper runs. He runs in a straight line at the goal.. that's it.
So he's useless no matter which strategy you try.

scored on a header.. which cunny is incapable of...
makes runs better than cunny (Smith doesn't just run in a straight line).
Smith is a better passer when need be.

Smith ain't the answer, but in the meantime it's better to run Smith out there than keep waiting for Cunny to actually score.

Hey remember when we got him? LAST season? He put 96 on his jersey becuase that was how many MLS goals he had, and there was all this talk about how he would change his number for every goal he scroed, etc.

He has ONLY SCORED 3 GOALS SINCE WE ACQUIRED HIM!!!

I am sick and tired of this waste of money/cap space/player development. Ibrahim or Smith would kill to start, or even sub for Danny D (I know he's concussed right now).

After the last few games I am seeing almost 700k in cap space from Robbo and Cunny - deal them both to Darby/Blackpool/Sunderland and find something from 3rd division Spain and we would be better off! Pakistan AAA! Even some of those game throwing bastards from Serie A!

I agree 100%, jarod has a million times more hustle and decent pace. He doesnt flop in the box when he heres the defence breathing, instead , he starts running harder...now thats the way to get a penalty ,a ctually get taken down when youre busting your balls...if we're playing two strikers against montreal, it should be dichio(if healthy) and smith, cunny as a late sub, or even ibrahim instead of cunny as a late sub I think, he sprobably got a better finish thats for sure.

I have to disagree hugely here.

At best Robbo can be said to have been 'steady' all season. At worst, hes a huge waste of money. I dont know if ive seen him put a shot on net all season. He skyed at least two attempts last night and as for organized, were we watching the same game last night? I saw him give possession away more times than I saw him complete a pass.

One stand out was around 92 minutes last night and Robbo got the ball, with time and space right around midfield. He could have looked for a short pass, sent it back, or even whipped it across feild as our wide mids were open all night long. What does he do though? Just boots it right up the middle, straight to nobody, the Caps regain possession and the game is over.

I didnt see a single positive play out of Robbo last night. The only times I noticed him was when he was turning the ball over, firing it into the beautiful forestry around Swangaurd, or lunging studs up to poke a ball away because he took a bad angle.

Cunningham was shit but IMO Carl Robinson was the worst player on the pitch last night.

Not true. He actually has 6 goals total since joining TFC. He actually played last year wearing no. 93 (hence, the 3 goals from '07 took his then-career total to 96, his jersey number since the start of '08). He played 16 games last year, 13 as a starter. He's played in 13 games so far this year, 6 as a starter. So totals are 29 games played, 19 as a starter, 6 goals.

All this is not to diminish your main point that this guy's finishing ability is complete shite for a striker, especially given the opportunities he gets game in, game out because of his pace. I almost threw the television out the window last night when he completely f*cked up his breakaway on Nolly.
