With Mariner promising as many as six new additions to Toronto’s pre-season player list, the Reds seem to be taking steps to strengthen their roster in order to compete in as many as four different competitions next season, including the MLS Cup playoffs.

This sounds good.

My expectations are the same as year one. .

Win - Lose - Draw. . . Just SCORE in every home game.
Post season of course would be a nice bonus.

As well as a double over both Vancouver and those bitch-faced-Curd eaters from Montreal. . . . stuff them! Stuff them good!!

Anyone else find the Reggie Lambe interview just a bit cloying, like maybe we've heard that kind of talk from players before .... and it's never the good ones who talk themselves up as if they'll tear MLS apart.

Here's hoping I'm wrong on that.

It's true, we have heard this story many times before but with Mariner it has a different feel to it. Almost like he's.....telling the truth.

I'm also hoping you're wrong. :)

The last time I heard that was Danny Koevermans. Look how that turned out.

But there are many examples of the other way around. At the end of the day it's a question of Mariner/Winter's ability to spot talent. They have a decent track record on that so far. If he's as fast as they say, and with technical ability they say, I think he'll be an important piece. Plata on the other wing.

yeah was gonna say Winter only took 20 mins to decided whether or not he wanted him. That being said an inflated sense of self is never a good look when arriving in a new team/league

Does anyone else worry about both Koevervmans (33) and Frings (35) performances dropping off next season, especially over a long season? Obviously I'm hoping for the best, but it's the pessimist in me that gets a little concerned.

Probably just because he's a wide player and we've seen too many of those come into MLS and hit the skids previously.

Let's face it, the wing play in this league is terrible! Most of these guys can't cross to save their life and they can't take on a man either. Big egos too, so we've been conditioned to expect over-promise, under-deliver.

If Lambe and Plata are playing our wings, I think we'll be seeing them cutting inside more and taking their defenders on. They'll probably be playing a more central role as opposed to out on the touchlines. They won't be put in crosses as much. The left and right backs will be expected to do more of that. Which is good, especially in Morgan's case as he is an excellent crosser of the ball.

you could substitute Lambe's name for Rohan Rickets from a few years ago.. but anyway, let's see what he has to offer..

Pizza Hut withdraws sponsorship of FC Dallas' stadium.

No stadium sponsor, no jersey sponsor, no fans, doesn't look good for FC Dallas.

This Ecuadorian reporter is pretty certain Giovanni Caicedo will be playing with TFC:

Interesting comment about Miller Bolanos, not sure if this means he will sign with TFC or another MLS club.

I personally wouldn't worry too hard about both of them, they both came from clubs that along with their league schedules have larger domestic trophy competitions and recent years in the Europa cup, I would say they are use to preparing for a long season of training.

All these rumours of loans of LDU Quito players makes me think that we are a great place to help develop their talent given how well Plata has excelled. There's a mutual benefit. They can come here and train at our state of the art facilities and they get to learn English which is probably more valuable. We get a decent player from one of Ecuador's top clubs.
