wow that is a defensive dilemma considering we only have a few centre backs capable of playing on the international level. Lets not forget also that we have a less than reliable goalkeeper in Hirschfeld. Even against St. Lucia, he plays like he's 5'5 instead of 6'0.

My guess is Edgar and Straith will pair up at CB and Ledgerwood (RB) and Jazic(LB) will defend on the flanks. Morgan can still feature in the match but we would have to be up ahead comfortably in order to take out the veteran Jazic. Also, Simpson is a good back up at left back if for some reason he's needed.

Stalteri, is he retired from international action? He hasnt signed with anyone.

Excellent article by John Molinaro on the state of TFC after Winter's first season. Balanced, thoughtful assessment that takes an optimistic and approving tone of the team's development this past season.

Someone should show this to that dingbat Richard Whittall who edits the Footy show blogs.

Footnote below Molinaro's article says it's his last piece for CBC. It's been enjoyable watching his development with them. Anyone know where he's headed? Torstar could use a football columnist. The tool they have now is unreadable(although Daniel Girard is an excellent reporter).

Thank you for the kind words. Very thoughtful of you.

As for my future and where I am headed, I'll have an announcement very soon on my Twitter feed.

Cheers,

From J Mo article

Not only are Winter and Mariner getting things right on the field but they also successfully managed to change the culture of Toronto FC. Nobody is bigger than the team. That's been their mantra since Day 1, and they’ve held players accountable for their actions at all times — which is a far cry from the Mo Johnson era where player mutiny was rabid.Spot on

^The cynic in me says that, after taking "an optimistic and approving tone of the team's development this past season", Molinaro ends up, coincidentally, working for TFC. Please let the cynic be wrong so Molinaro continues to develop as a journalist. Then again, I wouldn't wish unemployment on anyone. Except maybe Rob Ford.

Hart won't play anyone who isn't playing regularly. He hasn't retired, but he won't be selected at this point.

Hmmm. it wouldn't be a move to a certain sports network owned by a company that shares its name with on of the best QBs in the NFL that's been snapping up almost every good sports writer in the city to write for it's new magazine, would it?

Speaking of Stalteri I think we should bring him in on trail for next season. If we end up signing Eck then we could move him into Central Defense and have Stalteri take his position as a wingback.

John's leaving CBC Sports (where he has worked with my wife, so I am in the know and even carried the Prosecco over today for his goodbye party - which I wasn't invited to...). I won't spoil the surprise - but I can say we are lucky to have definitely not seen the last of him...
