The tactical link contains this:

...While he couldn’t fulfill his usual linking duties, Frings was tasked with initiating most of the attacks, a ploy that created orderly, dependable movement out of the back....

So he was in fact fulfilling his using linking duties in a "point back" 4-3-3 but was playing deep enough that it looked like he was an extra centre back a lot of the time? Didn't see the game so inquiring minds like to know and all that.

read: "our D is so pourous, we have to have our best player plug the holes. . adn hopefully contribute to forward play"

SSG: yet another dissapointment.

Some really good news from Dallas:

FC Dallas has some problems, let's count them (http://soccerblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/10/fc-dallas-woes-let-me-count-th.html)

It wasn't that long ago FC Dallas was in line for a treble of trophies, (MLS Cup, US Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League) and the owners of 14 wins out of 19 matches across all three competitions. Dallas became the first MLS side to win a match in Mexico. There was discussion that Dallas might be able to catch Los Angeles for the MLS Supporter's Shield (most points at end of regular season) and Brek Shea was getting a lot of attention for MLS MVP.
Today, Dallas is winless in seven league matches, and approaching a team record on consecutive minutes of not scoring. Booted from the US Open Cup via Seattle in the semifinals and now in danger of missing out of advancing to the knock out stages of the CCL after once looking like a shoe-in. They are now closer to missing the playoffs than having enough points to win the Supporter's Shield.
Where has it gone all so wrong?
:D

Well that is just fantastic. Almost makes me confident about 3 points. Almost.

^ Or they may be extra desperate & dangerous...

Consider that Toronto needs to win; Dallas only needs to tie. Fingers crossed!

Frings was playing sweeper the entire game. There were no more than a bare few instances where he wasn't marshalling the back line. That said, every single pass out of the back came through him, but a lot of the time it was either swing wide to Iro or Harden on the flanks ("safe" passes), or through the middle to Dunfield or Avila, who then provided the "linking" from defense to offense.

Damn! We need a CB badly! He could be our answer, but we don't have a DP slot left to use. :(

German interview with Frings: http://www.rp-online.de/sport/fussball/international/andere_ligen/Ich-fuehle-mich-hier-pudelwohl_aid_1025697.html

Google translated:http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rp-online.de%2Fsport%2Ffussball%2Finternational%2Fand ere_ligen%2FIch-fuehle-mich-hier-pudelwohl_aid_1025697.html

Highlights:
-Says he's happy in Toronto, "could not be better"
-Likes the fact that no one knows him here, also that the city is never boring
-Had to get used to the 100km/h speed limit on the highway :)
-League is very difficult to play in, travel takes huge toll on the body
-Tough to assemble a good team because the roster changes so much
-All the new players in the first two weeks he was here made it difficult to come together as a team, but he's satisfied that they've improved

Good stuff, and he's right about all changes to the team. Hopefully the midseason roster upheaval was just a one time deal and they can continue to build cohesion through next season.

A Look at TFCee's Unconventional System: I don't know if this guy did his homework on the internet or he finally got his very first copy of Football Manager.

I'll give him some credit where its due, in the fact that TFC has never done the 3-4-2-1 or the 3-6-1, whatever it is that TFC was doing versus the NYRB. In TFC history the team has never done that. Bravo to Sherlock Holmes who apparently is writing the paragraph in Aron Winter's wikipedia page that will say, "He once tried to do something different with his lineup TFC where out of desperation and injuries he had to use the 3-6-1 or 3-4-2-1."

Ferdinand: Maybe but I dont know if it would be Rio to MLS.

they def want a dp cb

when i was talking to earl after the townhall, i asked him about matthew upson cuz i had seem him sit with no contract for virtually the whole summer and if this was someone they would have gone after...apparently they had floated the name around with each other and it was something they would have considered had they had another dp spot (he had mentioned unfortunately that you couldn't trade for a dp spot either because it was something they would have potentially looked into as well)

I think I do recall either yourself or someone else mentioning that the team wanted a DP player at each role at DEF, MF, and FW, but also recall seeing Aron Winter in an interview with one of the GOLTV game hosts saying exactly that.

My question to you Prizby, was this before he was demoted to the Academy that you talked with Earl? And was this also just a player that "he" considered in his caretaker role?

Is this also someone who is a realistic option? He could of just said that to make you seem like you were onto something. Matthew Upson, just doesnt do it for me. Either of the Ferdinands would be interesting though.

I also wanna throw the names, Lucas Neill or Sasa Ognenovski just for shits and giggles, but you never do know.

I would scour South America for the best defender we could hope for between the age of 25-30. If he works you you have a rock that could anchor the back line for the next 10 years. Heck, while I'm at it, here's a name: Wilman Conde and he's as dominant as anyone i've seen play CB in MLS in the last 5 years.

With the euro options they are either too good to leave, too expensive for us to afford, or will last too little time (even if they work out) to make it worth while.

Ognenovski would be interesting. Former Asian footballer of the year, led a team to Asian CL win. Only if he was two years younger
