The "timing" and delivery was on point, here. Funny stuff.

Thanks. I kind of had a feeling something was coming today or tomorrow and didn't want the comic to go to waste.

How Europe can learn from MLS about homophobia. (http://www.wakingthered.com/2013/1/7/3828716/2013-the-year-north-america-schools-epl-on-anti-homophobia) I say Europe needs to get over itself, and start looking at what MLS has achieved in 2012 on fighting homophobia. It's not perfect, but it's better than the clusterf*ck they have.

Big scoop from Duane on how much BMO Field makes:

http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?4086-How-much-does-BMO-Field-rake-in

Interesting fact: lower attendance cost ML$E $5,000 in concession sales for the year ending June 30th. That's out of a profit of $453,000. Of course, attendance did worse later in the year, so the 2013 numbers would be interesting, if they could be obtained.

Sandor from The11.ca has a great article about Toronto's eat-our-own mentality:
TFC gets a lot of good news, but does its fan base even know how to deal with good news? (http://the11.ca/2013/01/23/tfc-gets-a-lot-of-good-news-but-does-its-fan-base-even-know-how-to-deal-with-good-news/)

I agree with him for the most part, but the attitude in Toronto is never going to change unless we win a championship or even make the damn playoffs at the very least. Look how quick we were to embrace the Argos during the recent cup run.

Good article.
I think it needs more than a one-off win. Back-to-back World Series wins by the Jays changed things for a while. However, depression is the normal state of things for any Toronto fan. Hopefully Bogers will turn that around.

I ended up doing mine manually because I couldn't find anything automatic. It essentially just boils down to getting the RSS formatting correct. If you want to do that I can probably find the original sources to explain how to do it.

I do see that you are using Weebly. I know they have a RSS feed reader built in that you could use but no RSS generator?

It's already using the automatic generator. I can't even customize the colors... notice they're blue. Would be nice if they were red.

You can PM me if you like but just quickly; depending on how comfortable you are with CSS, you can probably edit either the CSS being used for the RSS or the default CSS which handles links. Short of that you you would have to insert a custom code snippet.

Hey all,

As you know I do a lot of writing for WTR, and one of my pet causes is inclusion in the game, and it's something I've written at length about for WTR. But now, inspired by a British author, I've taken off on a small side project called the Teddy Perrault Diaries (http://teddyperraultdiaries.blogspot.ca/), a fictional blog of a fictional MLS player.

I just started posting entries (illustrations by the excellent Paul Marhue of ESSU fame), so I invite you to follow along at the address above.

Also, can we all agree to call it the St. Lawrence Derby instead of the 401 Derby? Sounds so much classier...

I heard recently of a musician who requested people to send him their Canadian Tire money, which he then used to pay for the recording studio time he needed. He raised over $7,000 this way, and met his goal.

Are there costs you have to bear associated with a compilation? If so, this sort of idea might help.

When I priced out a compilation last year it wasn't out of reach, cost wise. If I were to do it again there would be the added expense of another year worth of comic strips so, I'm not sure what that would work out to.

Right now I'm looking into some possibilities but I have some time given that I wouldn't put anything until this season is over. Then that would be three years worth of stuff.

But thanks for that suggestion. It's a pretty ingenious approach!

Arguably though, his biggest weakness over his career has been his tendency to miss the easier chances. As an instinctive finisher, Earnshaw is excellent, but when he has time to consider a finish, or a relatively simple chance, he can be wasteful in front of goal.
Wow does this sound a lot like a former TFC striker people love to hate....

Ryan Nelsen's first win as a head coach couldn't have come at a better time. Toronto FC was desperate to find some semblance of improvement and a win against Kansas City will do wonders for confidence on and off the field. There is still work to be done, however, as SKC had Toronto FC by the ropes for much of the second half. Toronto, attempting to spring the counter-attack and utilize Earnshaw's speed, failed to find a defence-splitting pass. Read more here... Robert Earnshaw, Hogan Ephraim, Darel Russell, Taylor Morgan, John Bostock, Richard Eckersley and Darren O’Dea – could this outfit be any more British? The quality of the team has certainly risen with the influx of British talent, and Toronto FC showed that they were capable in defending and attacking with traditional English flair. Looks like some of these loan deals have the potential to become full signings, too. Read more here... (http://www.rednationonline.ca/Articles2012/TheGoodtheBadandtheUglyTorontoFC21S.aspx)

Bring 'Em On! MLS Rivalry Week a Welcome Addition (http://rednationonline.ca/Articles2012/BringEmOnMLSRivalryWeekaWelcomeAddition.aspx)

Toronto FC vs. the Montreal Impact is the soccer equivalent of the Toronto Maple Leafs' traditional rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens. However, this isn't a rivalry born of hockey, either. There is a history of competition within the soccer circles between the two cities. Going back to 1971 through 1973, in the days of the NASL, the Toronto Blizzard and the Montreal Olympique already had an established rivalry. In nine games, the two sides remained very much equal, Toronto edging Montreal by a pair of wins. Toronto's largest win - a 5-1 thrashing at home - marked the tipping point of the derby. I have no idea who "Totera" is. Anyone?

Dunno much about him, he writes for that site and runs some soccer podcast I guess. He had a good interview with Kocic after he was sent to Portland. But he comes off as a complete tool here. Let's see what he says:

1. "People who say Payne/Nelsen need more time to get results are just making excuses"

This would suggest he think 2 months is an adequate amount of time to turn a 0-9, 24 point, dysfunctional team and organization into a playoff contender... which is ridiculous. It's not an excuse, it's reality. Yeah it fucking sucks to be terrible for the 7th straight year but this is what you signed up for at the start of the season.

2. "Payne could have fixed this team and he didn't"

See last point. In 2 months? Are you kidding me?

3. "Everyone thinks this new DP, Matias Laba, is going to cure all the problems"

Literally nobody thinks this.

4. "TFC needs a DP that can score"

His name is Danny Koevermans and he's injured. But I guarantee if we made the Koevermans signing tomorrow instead this guy would just complain that TFC is buying aging talent instead of trying to get the core of the team together (which would actually be an ok argument).

5. "Nelsen should've made changes once the Montreal game got out of hand"

Didn't he make substitutions at half?

6. "TFC needs players that match Toronto's multiculturalism, e.g. Italian, Portuguese and French players"

fucking lol

7. "Look at all the good players Montreal signed compared to TFC"

Yes, because Montreal actually had established connections set up in Italy to bring in those players. Payne had nothing to go on when he arrived but what Nelsen could scrounge up. Then when Payne tries to sign good players using his own club resources (Laba) you dismiss it because he's a defensive midfielder? Right.

What a bunch of "win now" bullshit. The type of mentality that has hurt this team since 2007.

Hello RPB
I have been blogging since day 1. I find the promotion side of blogging difficult. I don't always understand why I blog after every game. I try to be a thoughtful observer and fan. I coach and consider myself a student of the game. Sometimes I am pleased with what I have written and smile over those kernels of truth and joy I have somehow expressed.

Sometimes I have just slogged through a post just to keep the string going.

My day job is teacher, I have no journalism career aspirations, although who knows where the muse and the soccer gods will take one?

Thoughtful comments always welcome. My vow for 2013 was to take my blog just a little more seriously. I read RPB forum daily. I have considered buying a membership and getting a scarf. I am on the shy side and live outside of Toronto and would probably be uncomfortable at pub nights and tailgate events.

Thanks for posting this. I've read your blog from time-to-time and found it well written (and if you haven't guessed, I read a lot of TFC blogs). Please post here whenever you update your blog.

While the Red Patch Boys tends to be a more outgoing group as a whole, with social-oriented activities and vocal support, we do have a few quieter members who like to do things behind the scenes to help support the team (and support is what we are about). Feel free PM any questions you might have. Ultimately you should do what you feel most comfortable with, but your thoughtful online presence is welcome here, whether or not you are officially a member.

I actually read your blog quite regularly, and follow you on Twitter. But, I can do a better job of contributing with an occasional comment or frankly, just a kudo. As someone who does something similar to you, I can appreciate how a simple acknowledgement of your efforts can keep you motivated.

I can't really speak to the best way to promote your blog other than interesting content and getting it in front of peoples' eyes. Social media is of course the best way to do the latter. You've been doing this for a very long time so you're obviously passionate about your blog. So, keep up the good work!

Cheers.

My love for all things California is a life-long theme.

I had to stay up and watch TFC at San Jose. My mind (a tiny thing) has been absorbed with TFC's struggles 2013 and my awareness of the MLS is rocky at the best of times. So I was unprepared for a late night parade of ex-TFC players wearing Quake shirts (Attakora, Cronin, Gargan). My blog post reflects the depth of this shock.

http://torontofcfan-mistakebythelake.blogspot.ca/2013/05/haunted-in-california-san-jose-quakes-2.html

The shock was strong enough (notice just how difficult it is to write about a TFC team playing a guy named Richter visiting a team called the Earthquakes and not fall into a fault of jokes and puns?) that I had to wait until the next morning before I could put my thoughts into some kind of order. I don't often evaluate my own blog posts, but I am giving this one a 1.1

PM me the alternative ending(s?), were we to have lost/drawn -- you MUST have them!

Really enjoyed reading through these. I had stopped doing so, because I knew they would cheer me up and I didn't want to be cheered up; I wanted to be upset with the recent results and to, then, forget about them for awhile, completely.

Having won, now, I've resumed reading all those I missed and it's been quite entertaining and the timing of this win corresponds nicely to your concluding the "Cursed" series. Neat.

Changing it up so that I wasn't focussing on myself was a nice distraction. Now that we have won, and I'm getting back to my regular programming, let's keep out fingers crossed that things have changed!

As for alternate endings, I had them in my head but never put them to paper. I'm glad of that though because they would have probably been sad comics. Hehe.

Aaron Nielsen doesn't agree with Payne et al. current direction of the club - losing out on next year's draft pick (although nothing to do with them) 1st and 3rd round, no homegrown potential, means there's even fewer options of N.American 'core' talent. Supplementing w Euro and S.American talent is experimental with few precedents at success.

Naw, I like ESSU just the way it is. It's almost like a signpost showing how things went throughout the seasons. Please keep the TFC focus.

Thanks for the feedback. What I've been hearing from people is that they are open to comics about topics other than TFC but they want ESSU to remain TFC centred. So that means two comics! I know what I'm going to do and will figure it all out over the next couple of days.

The rumours are on that Klose is one of TFC's targets

Well this one's not exactly sunshine and rainbows, but interesting breakdown none the less

ENBSport / Aaron Nielsen looks at TFC's salary mismanagement, which goes beyond a few contracts here and there, but pretty much has been the M.O. for the last seven years - even this season despite many saying Payne cleaned up the salaries here ...

TFC'S SEVEN YEARS OF POOR SPENDING FOR LEIWEKE ET AL. TO OVERCOME (http://www.rednationonline.ca/Articles2012/TFCssevenyearsofpoorspendingtoovercome.aspx)

Thanks alot. Glad you liked them! I wanted to do more with the Tim and Nelsen goes abroad idea but did a Red Card Comic instead. Kind of ran out of time in the week.

Hey all, first post.

We host a nightly soccer show at 7PM EST on www.nextsportstar.com (http://www.nextsportstar.com) with our host Anthony Totera. He got a chance last night to catch up with Sky Sports reporter from Italy Gianluca Di Marzio about the chances of Alberto Gilardino coming over to join the squad. I'm not a soccer expert and would never claim to be so I'll let the interview do the rest of the talking. Hope you enjoy!

EDIT: Apologies for not seeing this thread to post it in!
