it was a tactical win.
all this talk of "lazty passes" and "slow movement" is bollocks..
we took our time in posession, and when the half whistle and final whistle was close we poured it on.. good football to watch.

we should be thanking our lusky stars that it was even on Tele! a few years back that would not have been the case.

(dreadful commentating from wet blanket and 'when I was keeper at West Ham')

That's the best take on the Sportsnet commentary, Techno. "Wet Blanket" seems to be their aim for calling Canada every time.

I wouldn't say Canada was slow with the ball. They were slow to take shots in the match, though, which was pretty frustrating. Thanks to the TFC boys for getting things started in that game.

Next match I'd like to see them shoot to go up early. They have to realize they won't be able to wear down teams in the next round.

Ugly. Lets get through this first stage but we need to look better than this going forward. We do have skill, we need to see some of it. We move the ball well but take forever to get a shot off when in close.

Positives...we've won 2 of 2, the boys are playing more games together in this stage than they ever have, we are firmly in control of the group and after this stage we should be out of the 100's in world rankings.

Same issues as TFC, as soon as they get rid of the ball, they think their job is done for the most part

textbook away performance (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/9/7/2409468/Puerto-Rico-0-3-Canada-world-cup-qualifying).

the more i think about that game, the more i like it. It wasn't always pretty, but they did what they needed to do, what they set out to do. survive the early onslaught, slowly take control, nab a goal, then bring on the fast guys to play the counter when PR put more pressure on and get a couple of late goals, perfect.

wasn't perfect, but a very well executed plan.

6 points out of 6, stranglehold ahoy.

mornin d

game was good -- lots of possesion and hopefully a sign of things to come
they also look to becomming more of a team than one man show too
it was a much better game to watch since almost no dives and the ref did a good job
momentum does not hurt either
cant wait till the next game
OH CANADA

it was horrible football to watch and if Puerto Rico could finish it would have been a 3-3 tie, Canada had a very difficult time when they pushed into the final 3rd, they didnt even have a clear chance until the 35th minute. Hope we get our game together before we face Honduras.

RE: Bobby Rhine's passing - woah. Not much detail there... well, there's none, actually. Just wondering if there was an illness or something. Sad news.

Completely unrelatedly, did anyone notice that Holger Osieck has taken over the helm in Australia ? (http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1071816/Holger's-heroes-take-a-giant-step)

Its interesting to see some people's expectations of the CMNT. The first road match of the WC2014 qualifying cycle, in extreme heat and a poor pitch - yeah, I'll take a 3-0 performance with ~70% ball possession. Finishing needs to be improved, but the quality is there, it seems to me that its just a matter of better chemistry, which will happen in due time.

I think Canada is certainly doing enough to get to the Hex, however, I have great fears about what will happen after. I stated during the game how predictable their game was and the lack of creativity will hurt us vs Panama or other teams. If want to progress further, we have to look at becoming more unpredictable.

Finishing chances shows a big indication of quality. It's why PR is not Canada and why Canada is not Spain.

yeah, I agree on the chemistry thing. You could see the guys are still getting used to each other -- sometimes a pass would go one way as a guy was starting to run the other way. But I also see chemistry developing between some guys.

People need to remember Hart told his team not to come out all gung ho due to the extreme heat and humidity. And so they took it slow and were methodical.

Puerto Rico had a couple decent chances... but as my father says, you can't keep a team -- any team -- down for 90 minutes without them having a few chances.

unfortunately Honduras and Cuba will not miss those chances and it will be even harder to break the final 3rd against those teams, we need to improve and quickly or this qualifying will end like all the others

%70 ball possession when a team sits back and lets you pass along your back 4 is nothing to brag about, if they were creating clear chances with %70 possession then I would be impressed

That was our most difficult game of the group. Don't throw in the towel on this team improving already. There are 4 more to go.

I actually think that St. Kitts & Nevis may be a tougher match than Puerto Rico. They caught a bad break mising Atiba Harris due to injury, but they drew with Puerto Rico and beat them 1-0 last year.

Reading comments I think people watched two totally different matches between Canada/Puerto Rico.

Canada will be hard pressed getting to the Hex, Honduras is tough and Panama is improving every year. I'm not so worried about Cuba. That said it is one of our best chances in a long time...now get it done.
