Anyone notice that TFC scrapped the Original TFC academy logo (with TFC shield) and have now replaced it with the TML style leaf?

Old:

New:

Just wondered what people thought of that.

I love it! I wished Toronto FC would have been Maple Leafs branded right from the start. :D

As for the colour? Refer to avatar. :hump:

No, I think that it was a rumour on MLS underground. They do use blue training uniforms, but I don't think a colour change is in the cards at all.

The point here is more about the use of the TML leaf in their logo.
That leaf design is unique to the TML and since MLSE has the copyright, I'm sure they just decided to use that rather than designing a new leaf and copyrighting it for the academy.

and people tell me to stop comparing the leafs to TFC.

Also interesting how similar the TFC/Academy Logo looks to the Toronto Marlies Logo. Especially if you take the large leaf away.

Company wide branding maybe?

I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing any blue on future kits other than practise jerseys. As for the new Academy logo with the redesigned leaf, I'm really not a fan of having us ride any other team's coatails, no matter how minor the reference. That shit may fly for the Marlies, but I don't see how it should for us.

James. That is gorgeous. A leaf? More curious is what would prompt the change?

I really REALLY hope we don't go blue. That would be a huge mistake imo to change the 'brand' this early.

plus, the other 2 professional Canadian teams are blue.

oh, and I hate the Leafs.....

Thought maybe the purpose was to brand that leaf the "toronto" maple leaf rather than the "canadian" maple leaf... but it does look like MLSE is trying to capitalize.

I would want the colours to be blue and red though for away games, not blue and white like stupid chelsea.....Im a gunners fan. Blue and red horizontal stripes , like my goonahs third kit?

people, relax.

look around the world at companies that own teams in more than one sport. They all use the same name/logo (more or less). At least MLSE didn't name the Raptors, TFC and the Marlies, with the same name.

so what if there's a Maple Leaf in the logo? It's the logo that represents the company. And if they want to put their logo on a team that they own, who are we to bitch and complain?

Exactly Myron. It's a logo. And in the business world, it's all about branding.

I like the leaf instead of the small TFC crest in the Academy badge -- it looks way too busy with the crest there.

Also, I don't like the idea of simply slapping 'Academy' in place of Toronto in the TFC crest -- that wouldn't distinguish the two teams enough IMO.

I like the route they've taken.

Why should they be distinguished from the parent club? They wear the same kits...

James17930
07-09-2008, 12:41 AM
Because they're playing in a separate, semi-pro league. They are more of an individual entity from TFC as compared to other U-18 clubs from MLS IMO.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

If you look at the first post, it wasn't a complaint, simply an observation. Was just looking for people's opinions.

I guess there are examples (Barcelona) who have football teams and other teams that wear the same logo/jersey's (barca Basketball).

Personally, I like the clubs to have separate identities. If gives me a little bit of comfort to think that these teams are actually different rather than some money making engine from a large corporation (even though they're not).

Multi sport branding can work but it's odd we're seeing now instead of first. Are we to take it that TFC branding didn't bring in enough people so they're trying all those Leafs/Marlies fans that don't respond to the TFC brand? Possible but if so a little misguided.
