Panamaniacs! maniacs on the floor, and they're diving like they always dived before. (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/8/19/2371827/tauro-fc-1-2-toronto-fc-panamaniacs-maniacs-on-the-floor)

Diving, a terrible ref and Joao Plata almost cost us, but 3 points is all that matters.
also

the new formation is looking good, but we really missed frings last night (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/8/19/2372061/a-few-points-west-8-18-tauro-1-2-tfc-90-minutes-on-the-panama-canal)

You really had to feel for ecks last night, the poor guy didn't know what to do. Once he got his yellow they kept running at him and flopping at the slightest breeze. was a disgusting display of sportsmanship. Drives me nuts watching that kind of crap, be a man and have some honor..

Last night's game wasn't really one to judge where TFC are at, but I'm worried that in the last month to six weeks we've really gotten away from the possession game. And while the 3-4-3 might tactically work against certain teams, I really don't want to see it become the norm. We're getting results which is great, but I don't want to see the whole approach thrown out the window. The possession game would have been great last night when we were up 2-0 - we should and could have been playing keep away the rest of the game - but we couldn't hold onto the ball last night at all. Anyway, just wondering what's going on tactically right now?

I can imagine it was very very difficult to play when you know that you can't really fight hard for the ball without having a real good chance of getting a yellow. As soon as the ref started calling everything it forced TFC to go into a more of a self preservation mode where they were just trying to limit stupid calls/cards that could cost them but backing out of most hard challenges strated opening it up for Tauro which they took advantage of. I guess that is how they win things down there. I couldn't wait for that final whistle to get that joke of officiating over with and glad TFC were able to hang in there. Hopefully everyone will be able to be healthy and ready for Sunday.

That's why you knock the ball around and play possession.

It's like they deliberately picked the SSG's worst photo from the whole thing

(sorry, my mind can't go back to last night or I may smash something at work too)

That's why you knock the ball around and play possession.

Which is hard to do when the opposition is simply running at all your players at every opportunity with no intention of getting the ball, but trying to draw a foul. And when the ref is complicit in this, and giving constant phantom fouls when TFC was winning balls, it's even harder.
I will admit that Plata could have done more in that regard instead of just running at that one defender and shooting on goal. But generally, it was hard to keep possession given the circumstances, unless the team chose to bunker and not score goals.

an important point needs to be addressed - how does Winter convince Plata to pass?

It's harder to win balls in that atmosphere than hold onto balls. I actually think it's easier to hold possession against teams that run around with their heads cut off. Unfortunately we've abandoned that game somewhat. JDG had it figured out last night though. He went down a few times. He's crafty. We needed more of that last night.

I say sit Plata for 1-2 games and give him a textbook that explains transferring the ball from one player to another without having to run it there. We might loose of an edge without him now, but benefit in the long run..

Plata had his first terrible match of the season, but he is still one of our most dangerous offensive players. The coaching staff should sit down with him, go over his mistakes on the game film, and throw him back out there against Chicago. If anyone deserves a little slack for a poor performance, it's Plata.

Yup, I agree... He works his ass off - had an off night, shit happens...

I have no inside information, but I'd bet the farm the staff are doing just that - going over video with Plata, working on his vision in training, teaching him to find him teammates instead of tunnel vision ahead...

Yup. Furthermore, Plata has been finding his teammates in the open with regularity this season, so if anything, last night's selfish display was an anomaly.
