Dang, it didn't even occur to me that Frings was out.

Too be honest,
as a guy who grew up watching hockey and it's way of dishing out penalties,
Soccer seems freakin' harsh sometimes.

Can you imagine if a hockey player faced suspension because he racked up a hooking penalty and a tripping penalty?

But whatever, I'm going for my coffee now.

I agree Frings will be a blow, but I think this is the game to miss over one against Pumas or Dallas. Plus it resets him to 0.

I think the team has a great shot in Champions League, and also at finishing the season strong. The off season must is finding a CB.

THE. MOST. IMPORTANT. GAME. OF. THE. SEASON! (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/8/17/2365163/tauro-fc-v-toronto-fc)

I like hyperbole, but really if we want to have any chance at all, we need 3 points here.

Given the results in DC, it's pretty obvious that transfer gradings article is little more than a popularity contest with no actual merit behind it.

Yeah, I think everyone is worried about a repeat of the whole Preki thing. Would be good to get that monkey off the back and get the three points.

you know what i love? the fact that when he blocks the pass that wouldve led to an absolute sitter, you can see kyle beckerman stop running and put his hands up like they scored.

seriously. everytime i think about it i grin.

Tauro are essentially an amateur team. We should brush them aside like we did with Edmonton, Frings or no Frings.

They are and of course we should. We should have done the same with Aribe Unido last year and even beat Esteli by more this year.

I thought Santos was not on the submitted roster for the prelim matches against Esteli, meaning he would be available for FCD.

Academy Starts Five-Month Pilot Project (http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2011/08/academy-starts-five-month-pilot-project) : I think this is the best news of the week, considering we dont win. This in my opinion is a big win for the future and I would take this considering it has implications beyond the club.

MLS Doles Out Transfer Grades (http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2011/08/mls-doles-out-transfer-grades) : This is probably the biggest sack of shit I have read about the team. This is like a league issued media bandaid to help TFC's bad reputation.

Thats not to say that the transfers of Koevermans and Frings havent been important to the team, but for fuck sakes an "A" grade needs to be saved for a team that is second last in the standings and makes a significant transfer that helps it make the playoffs.

Eddie Johnson to MLS deal is off. EJ balked on salary terms. Not sure what he was offered but consider how modest his efforts have been in last 2 yrs I'm sure it was more than he's worth. Now he can go back to Turkey. Whatever.

-sent a scout from Mexico to watch Tauro FC
-happy with locker room atmosphere. lads gelling well.
-Frings was approached late Apr. he turned down a big offer from Middle East. deffo Klinsmann influenced.
-MLSE board of directors 'gave us tremendous amount of money to invest'
-Mariner talked to Daniel Levy (Spurs director) when transfer window opened about Robbie Keane, but asking fee was 6 mil pounds (mid Jul). went for Koevermans instead

nice one, thanks.
Dont mind Koevermans over Keane, kinda think Keane'll put more away in the end tho.

Or not, right? That's the thing signing about DPs -- it's really risk management writ large for a club. You're betting a huge amount of limited payroll plus a bunch of capital (transfer fee) on the hopes it'll produce goals. I think to me there's a logical cutoff on how much you want to bet, unless it's someone like Didier Drogba (ie. guaranteed goals).

$10 million for Keane? I'd pay half or less and take a Hassli or Koevermans over Keane any day.

good argument, in the end i dont think anyone of the 3 is a bad look.

Especially as im not footing the bill and its the same blow to the cap no matter what. I dont blame MLSE for not signing him but i wouldnt have been mad either.

Realistically Koevermans has put 3 goals in 5 games, dunno what Hassli is at but im sure its respectable and Keane will produce too. All are pretty decent.

Hi guys,

Not sure what to make of this, but Mayor Ford and Premier McGuinty are discussing ways to better utilize Ontario Place and Exhibition Place.

CTV News article:

The two also discussed the future of Ontario Place and Exhibition Place -- two of the City's aging tourist attractions that the premier said are presently underused.

"What a better use is, I don't know, but at some point we should work together to ensure it's something that invites people here, that is an important tourist draw," McGuinty said. "I think we should take a look at what the possibilities might be."

Do you think BMO Field might be impacted? Remember the whole issue with BMO Field and the Argos a year ago. Ford's a big Argos fan. I hope this has nothing to do with it.

Ford is an NFL fan. By the time they get around to even looking at selling BMO Ford will be out of office.

Hassli has 10 goals in 17 games for Vancouver.

That's value for money.
