Good point. I'd like to see him from the start of this cycle not a late add on when the bigger games come.

CCL schedule will make things busy (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/8/9/2352415/toronto-ccl-schedule-and-pricing-info-released). and for most of the stadium, still a bit too pricey.

I've got to disagree about the prices. The CCL were my favourite games from last year and this year I can get them for half the price of an MLS ticket. I am very excited.

He did sign?

All I knew was that he was offered a deal and that he wanted one....for months it seems, but no pen has landed on paper yet from what I've seen.

I'd like to know what the CSA is actually doing to entice Hoilett to play for Canada. Seems that they're doing nothing and letting him decide. He could be key in qualifications. Him and Simeon Jackson would be really strong up front.

Man I feel bad for Iro. For all the fuckups and worrying signs he displayed in DC, I really hope it was a one-off and that he bounces back on Saturday.

We need to cheer him big time when his name is announced on Saturday (if it is...).

Hart has repeatedly stated that he's been in contact with him and that Hoilett knows he's wanted, but he doesn't want to commit until he takes care of this contract.

Hart was even there to visit him last spring I believe.

It's not that they are doing nothing, it's that there's not much more they can do. He has to decide he wants to play for us, until then there's nothing more to be said.

Hoilett has SIGNED his contract...so now he's got NO EXCUSES on letting Hart know his decision....

While many of the European leagues are just getting underway, the more northern Scandinavian circuits are well into their season. Norway’s Tippeligaen is nearing the two-thirds mark of the campaign, and Chris Pozniak’s Haugesund are surging with a strong push up the table.
Pozniak featured in both of Haugesund’s games this past week, each a comfortable win. Last Wednesday, Haugesund dispatched Sogndal 4-0, with their Canadian defender notching a rare goal in the 21st minute. They followed that up with a 4-1 victory on Monday afternoon over lowly IK Start, which allowed Haugesund to jump to sixth place in the Norwegian top flight.

Pretty cool clip about the Community Hero program. Also, I had no idea we had a wall like this up in BMO Field:

Yeah, it's been there for a while, 2nd-3rd season I want to say.

I remember seeing it during the Supporters Cup tournaments.

Sounds like MLS is moving from ESPN.

They have signed a new 3-year deal with NBC Sports (the re-branded Versus).

It starts in 2012

Read this on the twitters.

That's not good...

If the reach of 'NBC Sports' is the same as Versus (most likely if its just a re-brand) this is where they hide the lowest of the low in the States - aka NHL Hockey...

I'm guessing MLS was offered a lot more money as NBC Sports attempts to become more mainstream.

I wonder how many games will be on the main NBC network? Maybe that helped make the deal more appealing?

Doesn't NBC Sports have more of a reach than Versus?

From Steve Goff

SoccerInsider (http://redpatchboys.ca/#%21/SoccerInsider) Steven Goff

Fox Soccer Channel out as #MLS (http://redpatchboys.ca/#%21/search?q=%23MLS) broadcaster. NBC takes over in 2012: 6 games on network, 43 on Versus (now NBC Sports Network). ESPN remains

Just sounds like they're putting more games on TV.... if ESPN is remaining.

See this is good...

6-games on full network TV (HUGE), ESPN remains for reach and image (ALSO HUGE), hardcore fans can purchase 'NBC Sports Specialty' for more matches and coverage...

It actually will...

You'll see the 6 network broadcast games (antenna/cable/sat)...

And Versus (now NBC Sports) is a partner with TSN for NHL, so you'll probably see those matches simulcast on TSN2, as long as MTL/VAN/TOR are not involved (those teams will have a Canadian produced broadcast on TSN or SNet)...

Yeah, this TV deal, as per Steve Goff, will have no impact on MLS team's local TV contracts. This is a national deal.

NBC is revamping its sports coverage structure, a la the Disney/ABC/ESPN/regional sports channels integration. That's the model at least, obviously going to be a shadow of that in terms of eyeballs. What is now Vs will be the "ESPN" element, while Universal Sports (a channel just starting to get picked up by sat/cable providers) will be the junior "ESPN2/U/Classic/etc" piece.

^all US specific-sorry

First reaction that this is a good move. NBC is putting a lot of resource into this rebrand. Scheduling conflicts with Olympics will be a problem during the relevant dates.

More on broadcast deal: Vs (soon to be NBC Sports Channel or whatever) is in 76 million US homes right now, compared to 39 million for Fox Soccer. If NBC leverages the providers along with the rebrand the Vs HH number should increase, perhaps dramatically.

ESPN and Univision deals run through 2014.

Until this year MLS was getting $3 million per year, going to $10 million per year is healthy. A shadow of the top leagues (Eng Prem= approx £2 billion UK rights alone) but enough to keep the owners happy and perhaps loosen the salary cap leash a bit (pure speculation on my part).

yeah, that would be nice! Too bad it's not more, since even if ya divide the additional $7 million per 19 teams next year, they only can increase the cap $368,000 per team. Although that might help each team afford signing a pretty solid foreign player (DP or otherwise) or bringing back from lower-Euro leagues two decent American players. My guess is that MLS wouldn't give all the money to the cap though.
