Good morning! First stop every day.

Ive got a feeling Portland could be a good team next season, I like their prospects more than the Shitecrabs who under Soehn look worse than any MoJo coached side.

Im a little shocked Kenny Cooper is doing so poorly there. He was such a beast with Dallas. If we didnt have DK on our team I would be dying for Winter to bring him in.

Also, I wonder how long we will be able to keep Frei without another team coming in to swoop for him. He does make some odd choices with crosses into the box, but he is quite the shot stopper. I cant think of any other keeper in the league who does what he does on a regular basis. If he was on a championship side, he would be a legend already. We've got to thank him for more than just a draw, he's really the only player who has kept any modicum of respectability to a TFC franchise that has seen too many dark days.

That second article from mlssoccer- I don't think Koevermans was talking about their cohesiveness in particular. Quoted outside of context. Pretty poorly written imo.

Do you remember when we would read an article and figure that the content on this board was the primary or only source of information for the reporter who wrote it? I get that same feeling after reading the Larson piece.

Oh, and thanks D.

Good news and this definitely means Santos is good as gone.

Who's next Harden?

Any guesses?

We were supposedly interested in Cooper a while back, who s being shopped by Portland right now.

That Portland match was a bit of a nail biter. Most of the game had a "here we go again feeling" with the lads late to turn it on but more credit to them for staying vigilent to take the point. I'd like to see them keeping it closer vs DC next Sat.

Meanwhile... CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TOMORROW!!!

This news of acquiring another forward is scaring me - since the news of Ruiz on the outs in Philly.

Cooper would be good cover for DK, but I don't think he wants to come here to come off the bench.

Frings v De Guzman, a chalkboard analysis (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/8/1/2308010/torsten-frings-v-julian-de-guzman-a-chalkboard-analysis)

Comparing Frings to De Guzman, using stats from saturday's game to confirm what we all already know. All de guzman's excuses (can't expect too much from a dm, look at the players he's surrounded with etc etc) have been blown away, he's got the rest of the season to prove his worth.

also, apologies to mojo, paying big bucks for a DM wasn't a bad decision, he just went after the wrong one.

Everybody wants a centre back, but I think they already made their centre back moves.

Not saying they still shouldn't try to improve the position. But I think they are happy with Iro, Robinson, Harden, Henry (maybe Viator) back there?

I doubt that guys that were recently added are going to be on their way out, without being given a fair shot.

Hopefully, there is a reliable CB tandem somewhere in that mix. I think Winter should give Iro and Robinson a few games together based on their collective MLS experience.

Robinson and Iro are both MLS veterans who weren't starting. I'm going to guess they will be given a fair shot at a regular starting job on TFC.

I wonder if Robinson is allowed to play against Estelli? Or did the roster for both matches have to be in before the series started? Mind you maybe its better to stick with a familiar tandem for that game.

His motivation was also misplaced. He stated that the DP needed to be Canadian. I shudder whenever I read a quote from him on the subject.

Would be very exciting to see Kenny Cooper and his foot-mounted cannon come to TFC. We'd shed Santos in the deal (no biggie there) and have quite a nice amount of decent-quality choice up front.

But I agree with everyone else who's said this already: a forward would be nice, but the back is where we're still the weakest. I'd love to see another couple CB moves.

I would have to disagree. Portland are stuggling and it hasn't hampered their fans.

The biggest difference is they have history of supporting their club for a long time. It is still somewhat 'new' here. Winning does help but overall experience is the big teacher for fan unity IMO.

i think the first year doesn't really indicate much. The only fair comparison is years down the line. Now, Portland has had strong support in the lower divisions. But remember how great support was in year 1 for TFC even though we finished with fewer points than Portland is on pace for now (over 30 games). We even had a spontaneous pitch invasion at the end of year 1! Of course they'll be strong in year 1. It's exciting to have an MLS team, it's new, it's fun... we know all about that. Results don't really matter yet.

Also, I would argue that our south end is still pretty strong after 5 years, better than most in the league. Portland will never lose their supporters end fans either. But if Portland has a different coach every year, massive turnover, a lack of success every year, then new management etc etc, then I could see them losing those fans who sit in the middle, more highly priced areas.

It would of happend if we came into MLS...after Seattle and not before....

Even more crazy.....if we were coming in after Philly....we wernt a big enough group...we kind of set the bar coming in...unlike the seattles...the phillys ect... they had a blue print...and ran with it!

It all comes back to one thing....if we want a proper SUPPORTER SECTION NOW?..take control of the north.....if not..it is as good as it will ever get! NOt that bad as it stands:drinking:...but if people want to raise the bar....we need to start NEW! BUt we have to many people split on a decision to ever move...so i cant see it ever happening...so i'll be happy with what we got!

Take control of the north? Why?

The south is already a supporters section. Why not try to unite that before coordinating a move to a whole other area?

i agree with this,

they are actually one of the older supporter groups in north american soccer so they have had 20+ years to get supporters in supporter sections

too far gone.....the southend will never be fully united..cause there are too many people who are in it...who dont want to be a part of a supporter section....are are only there cause the seats are cheap...thats why

it would be easier for 500 loyal supporters to move the north....and build from there...

if you think the southend will look anything like portland...seattle...philly...

it will never happen.....its too late

unless you have controll of 1200 seats from scratch (north?) ;)...then i believe we would have the most amazing supporter section in mls

we had a sample of it a few years ago in columbus...what a proper tfc supporter section can look like... Simply AMAZING!

Maybe they see Marosevic as a better back up to Koevermans?

I think Koevermans backup would be almost as tall as he is, if not the same height.

My theory is that if Koevermans ever has to come off, or can't start they would just shift Johnson over, and put another winger in Johnsons spot. Since Johnson stands at 6'1.

Soolsma/Plata --- Johnson --- Martina/Marosevic

The problem with the south end is twofold.

First, it's shape is not conducive to an atmosphere similar to the one they have in Portland. It simply is not deep enough, and unfortunately it's nearly impossible to use its width.

Second, 112 is in a corner. This is quite possibly the worst place for a supporters section to be. If the corner were the edge of our section then yes, that's fantastic, but instead it is the epicentre of our support. This makes it nearly impossible to coordinate anything substantive with other sections.

Obviously control over 112 would be nice, as would a winning team, but in reality I don't foresee much growth at all as long as we stay in the section.
