When the New York Red Bulls announced the signing of Frank Rost, MLS’s first Designated Player goalkeeper, this week, one of Bouna Coundoul or Greg Sutton was inevitably on the chopping block. On Saturday, Sutton was deemed expendable by Hans Backe and Erik Solér as he was shipped north to the Montreal Impact on a loan agreement. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1589/canada/2011/07/16/2578242/greg-sutton-dealt-to-the-montreal-impact-on-loan-from-the

Sad to see the decline...

Greg played for them 2001-2006 before entering MLS with TFC.

I figured his days were numbered, he had some pretty bad games with NYRB this year.
And Coundoul wasn't much better. The last straw in my mind was the bad game he had against Seattle. After that game I posted in a thread here that his days with the team were probably over. He looked like he wanted to crawl under a rock.

Oh well, would rather see Sutton get games at Montreal than sit on NYRB's bench tbh.

Sutton actually entered the league with the Chicago Fire back in the late 90's before he went to the impact the first time

My guess is that there will be a good chance Sutz retires after this year.

Well, I guess they needed somebody on the Impact that's been on a team that has beaten TFC before.

I think RBNY would have preferred to keep Sutton over Condoul but Condoul's salary probably made moving him anywhere impossible. Sutton made a few errors this season but the ones that Condoul make are horrible.

NY Coundoul, Bouna GK $179,500.00

NY Sutton, Greg GK $80,100.00

Wouldn't be surprised if Sutton asked for it. I've had a sneaking suspicion that he'd be starting for the impact next year anyway.

I think he's going to be a backup for Montreal at best. He simply is not a starting keeper, too many mistakes.

Give him credit, he's hung in there for a while. 10 year career in North America, most guys don't stick for that long.

Likely. If he does well he could earn top spot. He's familiar & cheap. For a team that laid out for a new stadium and has to upgrade it 3 years later in addition to moving up market, he makes sense to give a proper look.
