Not sure Santos speaks much better than Frings TBH. It's not like Frings doesn't know any english at all. Anyways, we'll see if Santos even plays. If he does, he should never get more than 60 minutes. When he plays full games he tends to get injured way too often.

We'll see, but I say pass the armband to a REAL leader.

Nightmarish day for denime in news volume terms. Having done the daily news thing I suspect most people don't realize the level of dedication he shows on that. Much appreciated. I thought an interesting snippet was that Winter emphasized that Iro is a left-sided player like Harden in the Toronto FC TV clip and seemed to see that as a key selling point. Other comments suggest to me that Iro is not seen as cover but as a starter moving forward. Eckersley fits as a backup option as a right-sided player but think/hope we'll see another centre back arriving so he can move back to right back.

I think that was in reference to the total number of changes that were planned for the roster. I can't possibly envision 6 or 7 more new faces in the lineup. I can see Gargan and Harden being expendable at some point, but not with current state of the backline. Unless Winter is willing to release some of the trialists he identified in the off season, what else do we have to offer as trade bait? Perhaps Santos, but I hope not. Our only desperate need at the moment is another central defender, and a natural attacking midfielder would be a bonus. Hopefully, both can be acquired via the transfer market without relinquishing substantial assets.

Tricky bit might be finding a team that is also willing to take one of a relatively limited number of fringe players (Sturgis prime candidate but others like Graffit, Gargan and Borman also possible) packaged along with the first round pick in exchange for the player Winter wants so a space on the senior roster is freed up for the incoming player.

On big soccer just saw that the record for amount of players used in a single season is 36 (NY Metrostars). Right now we're at 28, and have 6 new players. Only 3 more to get our 3rd* MLS record!

Tonight in other news, we have the U17 International Tournament Finals in Burlington. We had 8 boys teams and 6 girls teams. This evening at 9pm is Corinthians (Brazil, yes that Corinthians) v Ajax (Toronto/Canadian National Champions 2 years running).

7pm is the girls final, perennial power Burlington U17 Girls v Buffalo Soccer Academy, ranked #5 in the US.

The teams for this tournament were from Puerto Rico, Memphis Tenn, Netherlands, Mexico, Australia, Montreal, Toronto and Buffalo NY.

Last evening 1,100 watched the semi-final in the boys action. It was a great time and you aren't going to get to see youth soccer like this very often around these parts. Hope to see a few of you there. If not I'm tweeting the whole event using @cdnshieldsoccer doing the play-by-play (as I've been all week).

Glad to hear it. We definitely need more reinforcments on the backline sooner rather than later with the upcoming schedule.

I'd love to see Boswell too. I don't know what happened between him and Kinnear and his drop of form, but this guy is one of the better defenders in MLS. would be significant upgrade for TFC

I think they are going with the CB pairing which has been doing well the past few games (Haniut and the Jamiacan guy) which is keeping Boswell on the bench.
