Two teams.

Two striker DPs.

We have 13 games to play, Vancouver has 14.

How many goals will each striker bag?

Prizes: nothing but the satisfaction of being right on the internet (it is its own reward)

I'll go with Kovermans 5 - Jarju 3

Tough call both will require service from the midfield so I'd stop short of any implications regarding quality when looking at their end of season totals.

iirc mista came in halfway through the group stage and slotted right in. would expect that both koevermans and frings will be in the CL roster.

Tough to say. Koevermanns has a better record facing superior competition in the Dutch league, but Jarju is a lot younger and more likely hasn't hit his prime yet.

Let's also not forget that how well each player is serviced on the pitch will determine quite a few of their potential goals.

Koverman - 7-8 would be great

jarju - 4?? could care less, were done with the Shitecap's for the season

unless we get better players, Vancouver have better guys to feed Jarju the ball. Look at that tool Hassli doing well.

Thing is, Hassli will probably benefit from Jarju too, so he may steal away some goals (Jarju talks about being a withdrawn striker and making plays). I think Koevermans will be the focus of TFC's offense, so he'll probably get more chances. Experience and a clear fit into a defined system he knows well will probably make Koevermans the winner of this challenge.

Yeah, that's a pretty good point. I the big issue will be, as you said, whether or not Koevermans can fit into the system and gel with the existing players. Out of the two, I'd say Koevermans stands to be a more adaptable player in that regard, so that's certainly a plus.

^ It depends how Frings is used. I hope he will be used as a CDM "regista" (Pirlo) so that he can realy contribute both ways.

for the first time in tfc history, every single person underestimated a player on this team

Final Score: Koevermans, 9. Jarju, 0 plus whatever he manages to score in the Whitecaps last game.

Advantage? Like always, Toronto.

Not everybody. I believe my sole comment in this thread was with respect to questioning why on Earth Jarju was a DP.

I will also note that Koevermans' movement is so good compared to MLS defending, I will be amazed if he doesn't score at least 12-15 goals next season.

Jarju has to pay Koevermans' restaurant tabs all off-season long.
Maybe maybe the K-man will teach him how to be a successfull striker in MLS.

Loved loved LOVED Koev this year.

A lot of us were worried that he would be ineffective because we don't have great service into the area. Turns out great players make great plays regardless.

With a full year of Plata, Koev, Johnson and Frings this could be exciting. I'm looking forward to how Mariner fills in the holes.

Mista scored a classic goal vs. Cruz Azul in CL, he's not useless just old. I'll remember that goal.

Change thread name fr challenge -> beat-down

I think half of us were assuming they couldn't have got their scouting that wrong... could they? They find a guy who's last solid run of form was in Malta and he scores 10 goals, you'd think someone who played in the Belgian second division would be able to contribute something??? Guess not! ha!!

The only worry I have is he has 8 goals in 10 MLS matches but 2 in 7 CONCACAF matches. There seems a little bit odd.

Though if he can keep scoring like this next season in MLS. even if he drops a bit, he's on par for at least 20 goals.

We need to keep Plata though.

Ossington Mental Youth
10-23-2011, 03:07 PM
if im not mistaken Koev wasnt around or was injured for some of those concacaaf games, also Platas got more goals in concacaaf/can cup than he does the MLS. I wouldnt take those stats as being particularly alarming. As long as someone is scoring.

I believe he was talking about your inability to spell Dichio and mocking the suggestion. Honouring the first goal in franchise history should continue as long as the club is alive, suggesting otherwise is pure stupidity (sorry). It's one of very few somewhat unique things that we do here, and is basically the only history/tradition we have.

The Dichio song gets fainter every game. It epitomizes the least creative aspect of our support and only serves to confuse people who are actively engaged in whatever is happening on the field at the time. It's an unpopular position but it needs to be said: This dinosaur to rest so we can all get on with our rebuilt and revamped team.

Ever notice where everyone's head is pointing during the massive? Not the field.

... the massive isn't just a song to sing though, it's a chant with 2 parts, where you have to wait for another group to finish it's part before you start. So looking at them would make sense to make sure you're on time. Dichio 24 on the other hand doesn't require anyone to do anything other than open their mouths and exhale air in such a way that noise comes from their throats. I think if people can handle the massive then they can handle Dichio. Also, maybe the quieter renditions of Dichio of late is more a reflection on the average level of passion of most of the fans in attendance? Everything is quieter than it was in the first few years. Constant losing tends to beat it out of you.

MartinUtd
10-30-2011, 08:24 PM
Can't argue that the overall enthusiasm has died down. I just spoke up about dichio24 because any voice against it's continued use is thought of as absurd. I don't think it is.
