re: Coaches Open House - I went to this last year. Preki couldn't host it 'cause TFC were off to play Montagua or some-such team so it was hosted by the Academy coaching staff plus Danny and Jim. Together they put the academy players through their paces. It's pretty much a full day and we were given a USB key with all the drills used (plus an apology vid. from Preki for not being able to be there). Lunch was provided by a hot-dog vendor parked out front of Lamport.

It pissed down the whole time, and there was nowhere to escape getting drenched. That part of it was a pity, otherwise a worthwhile event. I came away with a Tim Hortons coffee maker as door-prize as well.

I'd love to go this year, being that it's hosted by Aron and Bob, but lamentably will be out of town.

You should go, though, if coaching is your thing.

I wonder if any coaches will end up being confused, though?

Year 1: "Teach the players to long ball it to the target man."

Year 2: "You gotta put 10 men behind the ball, and defend, defend, defend."

Year 3: "4-3-3 and the passing game is the way to go."

I posted this in the postgame thread yesterday so it's a day old but was a good read:

http://www.nj.com/redbulls/index.ssf/2011/07/toronto_fc_draws_respect_from_red_bulls_after_cham pions_league_victory.html

It ends with Henry's take on our DP's

It’s good for the league,” Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry said. “Torsten Frings is very vocal. He’s a guy that gets in your face, a good player on the ball. Koevermans is a great finisher, a box player. That’s going to help them. That’s a good thing for the league and a good thing for Toronto FC, too.” Asked if he ever had any run-ins with Frings, Henry smiled.
“We all know each other,” he said. “You kick them, they kick you. That’s the way it is.”
