As we cant see the game anywhere online any updates (starting line-up, goals, discussion, etc...) would be much appreciated.

Wow, Pachuca's playing their big guns.

Damian Alvarez
Jaime Correa
Bruno Marioni
Christian Gimenez
Miguel Calero

Aside from Marioni who they just got, all of those players were integral in their Confed Cup win.

LucaGol

What the hell kind of formation are we playing?

The best I can make out is this...

-------------Sutton
---Nana-----James-----Brennan
--Rosenlund---Harmse---Hemming
Ricketts----Smith-------Robert
-----------Ibrahim

Or something like that....wow, talk about strange.

Or maybe Hemming is playing RB

-------------Sutton
Hemming--Brennan--James--Nana
------------Harmse
-----Rosenlund
-Ricketts--------------Robert
-----------Smith
---------------Ibrahim

I am extremely surprised that the young line-up we have right now...(and on offensive one at that) is holding Pachuca to nil-nil right now.

This is great experience for our young Canadian boys...Nana, Rosenlund, and Hemming.

Here's some fun facts...

Pachuca finished 8th overall (3rd in their division) in the 2008 Mexican Clausura, even though they won the concacaf champions cup.

Mexico has a very competitive first division, so I wouldn't really read too much into that.

0-0 at halftime. Seems we're acquitting ourselves well. Robert's been active.

Hard to tell from a match tracker since Robert is the free kick and corner taker. Could be everyone else is active but we don't know because it doesn't translate to the match tracker updates.

I have to say 0-0 is a lot better than I thought it'd be at the half.

Not a bad result. A loss in a shootout technically goes down as a draw. It would've been nice if some of our subs got playing time - what manager only makes two substitutions in a friendly? Oh well.

Btw, the attendance at tonight's game was 18,097. That's pretty lousy when one considers that 16,000 tickets were as good as sold months ago. Only 2,000 of the remaining 4,000 ducats got picked up. TFC is going to have to lower its prices if it wants to sell out these friendlies.

Back from the game and it was frustrating. I liked Robert in a more central role, he held the game up and distributed appropriately; it seems a better fit than on the wing.

Cunny - what can I say. I don't know what is wrong with him. During half-time he was practicing taking a cross and placing it on net (and he couldn't get it on target).

During the second half:

he had a beautiful cross onto the foot inside the 6 and he managed to tap it wide
he had a nice ball put up the field for him to chase but he checked his watch, the linesman, defenders (to make sure linesman was right, and that he had an opportunity) and our team (to see if someone else could run) before he turned on it. For a quick guy, he lost to a defender who had to run an angle.
I'll give him credit for the PK, he put it on target

Cunny - we want your success, we cheer for it, but we can't play the ball for you.

DOMIN8R
07-05-2008, 10:23 PM
That goalie pissed you off because he was dressed like a pirate - aaargh!

Fuck did we ever give him a hard time in 115. He was laughing and looking at us like he was watching stand up comedy. At least up until the shootout. Then the fans got nasty and so did he. He invited us on to the pitch between shots - and not in a nice way. We definitly got into his head.

Was a good game (after the second half, first was crap). Our boys need to chase guys down especially because Pachuca seemed to give up the ball quite easily, that was quite frustrating at times. Rosenlund defo struggled which was a bit saddening, Hemming played so so, had his moments. Gotta say that Robert did really well as did Ricketts. The two players that stuck out for me were Harmse and Smith. The yellow card for Harmse was bullshit (odd that isnt it?). Great to say we didnt get outplayed.

As for Pachucas goalie, we were tempted to scream 'CHEMO' but instead screamed 'Donde esta (hair, ive forgotten the word in spanish, people were kind enough to supply that) as well as baldy. During the shootout dude was SPAZZING cuz of some shit people were screaming at him. It was amazing.

Just got back myself. For me Hemming was MoM; he was constantly running his nuts off and linking up well with Smith. Harmse was hit and miss, Roseland was the lone disappointment out of the rookie players.

Cunny... What can I say? A striker that can't put in a PK....

I can see why Lombardo would consider asking to leave. Ibbe has gobs of talent and is half his age. If we can keep this kid, he's going to be huge for us.

Harmse played like absolute shite - stolling around the pitch with his head down looking for spare change that might have fallen out of someones pocket! He was flat footed, and with very few exceptions didn't run faster than a feeble trot most of the game. He was as mobile as a post, and for most of the game was looking bewildered by the action going on around him. Harmse was utter crap, and that's being generous!

Let's try to get this right from the start, folks....Abdus Ibrahim's nickname is "Ibee". Not "Ibbe" or "Ibby".

Not trying to be a dick, just trying to set the record straight. :)

Thanks for the clarification :)

I don't see how people are saying Ibbey had a great game?

Yes, he's 16, but come on, he by no means had a great game. I'll give him credit when credit is due, it wasn't today. I think sometimes people fall in love with the idea that he's a 16 year old with lots of potential. You want to talk about someone hussling, Smith freeking hussled his ass off today.

I really think he did hustle though also. Thats why I said he impressed me. I had no expectations and for me he put himself about. For no game experience with the team he played quite well in my opinion. It would be nice to see him again sometime.

The kid had a great run out today. He was quick and asked a few questions of Pachuca's defence.

Like I said, if he had a bit of experience behind him, he would have tried to slot that one in instead of squaring it through two defenders, and if he had, we'd be screaming for him to replace Cunny. It was a great play that got him there, and he played it with confidence, until he squared it that is.

We definitly got into his head.

lol....I was laughing when he turned around to the "Cohones" line

Better result than I anticipated. In my books, this is a 1-1 draw and the shootout doesn't count. After all, this game can't be both a friendly AND a cup game. It has to be one or the other despite it being advertised as both. So, it's a draw for my money and Cunningham still can't score.

I had a blast at the game. I honestly expected nothing from this game.

* I thought there may be more Mexican then TFC fans in the stands and that wasn't the case.
* I thought we would lose during regular time and that wasn't the case.

I really like the way Nana played, thought he commanded that back line pretty well.

Also, props to Julius James for scoring his second header. He now has more goals then Lombardo ever had as a striker.

Roselund was invisible.

Ibbey was ok, he's 16, needs time.

Smith was crazy energetic today.

Robert was a beast today, even defended.

oh, an Cunny still sucks and still misses open nets. That's my drunken analysis. good night :)

Sorry, I had to say it Harmse is shite. I can't stand him. Not very good on teh ball, very clumsy in tackles and really does not do much.

Were you at the game tonight?

He played very well and looked very confident carrying the ball. He took a much more positive roll tonight and worked well with his teammates.

He was a step up over the recent play of Mo Edu.

thoughts on the evening:

1) Boby Brasz should be some serious Death Row Records MC...serious karoake stylings

2) Great time at the Dufferin Gate, before and after the match

3) Ibrahim and James were men if the match for me. Ibby had pace and positioning all night long. James scored a great goal. Guaranteed folks..after Mo Edu, James will be the next off to to Europe. n the next couple of years.

$) Great job by the south end tonight. With respect, RPB Seemed to be a step ahead tonight., Props to Jack and hiod boyd doing a great job tonight.

6) Were there any untras on site tonight

7) George from NEE should be never allowed again to sing in public.

8) They were better players, but we had better conditioning.

Cheers

I agree...that was the best game I think I've even seen him play. He seemed to take the ball from them more than he gave it to them. I've done a complete 180 in my opinion of him since his misadventure DC. Never would have thought it could happen but I actually like him now. Next time Edu's running around all invisible-like, I'd like to see JC sub him out to send the kid a message.

I don't even think Harmse deserved that card either. Looked like he was fouled but since he knew he was going to be fouled he leaned in and there was a helluva hard hit. I could hear the "thwap" of bodies hitting one another way up in the second deck. I'm not sure who the ref was but I imagine he's hip to Harmse's rep.

What freakin' game were you AT!! Harmse strolled around the pitch for great gobs of time with his head down, seamingly unaware of WHERE the play was or what he should do! He had ONE good run up the side and little else. For most of the match he seemed timid and unsure, and judging by the penalty, he's been watchinig Cunningham FAR to long. QFT
There was one point in the second half when Nana was under pressure from a striker and he passed the ball to Harmse. Harmse was on cloud 9 looking completely the other way he only noticed the ball at the last second after Nana yelled at him. All he did was kick it straight back to his defender.

Also, has Harmse ever failed to get a card in a game he has played for us?

A lot of people have said in other threads in other games that we seem to play to the level of our opponent... Was last night another example...? (2nd half)...

I watched from the bunker, its tough to analyse or give many thoughts on the game from that vantage point - so I'm wondering, did we infact play to the level of our opponent again last night...?

In the Vancouver game, we were shyte in the opening half - and played down to them many thought...

From my vantage point...

I thought Ibee had a great game however as has been mentioned he needs some experience. There is no doubt that he has some serious natural ability and will be dangerous with time.

Harmse to me looked 50/50. At times he made great plays and others he looked surprised when passes were coming his way and generally not focused. Contrary to popular belief so far I didn't think that whole ball got across the line.

Edwards was great in the PK's and he really does have some great instincts for a really really young keeper.

Rosenlund needs some work :) mildly put. And Carver was seriously pissed at him for constantly turning backwards and not pushing the ball up the pitch.

Robert was great last night all around. I wish that he did catch Calero on that long ball, it was a beauty to watch.

I was really impressed that overall TFC was able to match the pace from Pachuca. I am not sure that they were really going full speed but the young guys matched them well.

Thank you a 1000xs over. I said the EXACT same thing to my buddy last night. He never seemed to know where the ball was half the game. Last time I disliked a player this much it was Valez, so hopefully he can turn it around just like Marco did.

And, Mr. Cunningham, I'm an avid, almost blind supporter of the US guys on our team during their ups and downs. But, you just need to go away and not come back.

My daughter and I were in 113 right in front of a few Pachua fans. The good natured cheering and comments going back and forth were really enjoyable. It was a great atmosphere to watch a game in. Before the start of the game a few of the players were in the section shaking hands and getting their pictures taken with the fans. Guevara chatted with the Mexican fans and then sat down behind us and I was able to speak with him for minute or so, I think he would have been content to watch the game form the stands but was told it was time to leave.

I don't understand why Pachuca pulled number 7 off of the left wing and moved him into the centre. He was giving all of the defenders a headache in the first half. The second half was much better to watch.

Gotta give a shout out to Flush and I think Jack who was drumming on Big Red.
A family that has 4 seasons seats beside mine couldn't believe the energy coming from 112. When I told them who Flush was and pointed out the Big Red Drum - they were in amazement! Considering how the drumming and singing kept up through the whole game. And... they said it was easy to follow the chants if you kept an eye on Flush - So... guys - GRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAT Job!

Indeed - good job with the drum. There was a guy in 109 leading chants as well but it is amazing how far apart we get on the timing - we need more practise I suppose. It was pretty good atmosphere, for a friendly, we just needed a tailgate to get properly primed!

TFC did a good job considering how many usual starters were sitting. P seemed pretty happy to win that trophy (I just received the official after the game picture and they are still screaming hugging each other!), I guess TFC gave them more of a game than they thought! They took the trophy, though. It was going to be displayed on the Carlsberg patio.
