Can big-name acquisitions save Toronto FC’s underwhelming season?

http://www.thestar.com/sports/soccer/mls/torontofc/article/1017181--can-big-name-acquisitions-save-toronto-fc-s-underwhelming-season

Frings is on the front page of the Bundesliga section of the UEFA website:

Frings confirms Bremen exit by joining Toronto

Highlights the Klinsmann connection, naturally.

With Frings, I think Toronto will now gain a lot more credibility, as long as they can start producing more results. I see him rank as the third most reconizable DP in the league, after from Beckham and Henry.

I hope this is just the start of the surge back up!

Agreed, and if I'm not mistaken, TFC is currently the only MLS club other than LA carrying 3 designated players. I suspect New York will follow suit shortly.

It remains to be seen whether or not the bold acquisitions of Frings and Koevermans will salvage the season for TFC, but I am encouraged that MLSE was willing to invest significant financial resources to try and improve the product on the pitch in the wake of declining interest and attendance.

I love Koevermans answer to how he will fit in the system.

"It's simple. I'm just a striker. Always in the box and always trying to score"

I hope this paves the way for more high profile players to consider Toronto as a destination in the future. I'm still in shock that TFC was able to sign Frings in particular, considering the multiple alternatives he had to remain in top flight football in Europe.

3 ugly points is still 3 points (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/6/30/2251782/toronto-fc-1-0-vancouver-whitecaps-3-ugly-points-are-still-3-points)

a win, and two new dp's? I'd say that's a good day.

so much news, and very little chat here. bizarre.

anyway.

Wasn't it supposed to be different this time? (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/6/30/2252892/womens-world-cup-canada-wasnt-it-supposed-to-be-different-this-time) a lament for the lot of the canadian soccer supporter.

and

Frings and Koevermans, will it work? (http://www.wakingthered.com/2011/6/30/2252448/frings-can-only-get-better-yeah-i-said-it)just another trip to the top of the hope/despair helter skelter, or will it actually work this time?

I was on the international section for goal the other day and I saw a headline about yesterday's transactions. TFC gettin some international attention is always good.

Whats even better is this quote from frings from the UEFFA website on his move to Toronto:

"The midfielder, 34, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Canadian side, apparently bringing down the curtain on a 402-match Bundesliga career. "I had several offers from Europe, America and the Middle East," he wrote on his website. "A few Bundesliga clubs offered me a contract as well and while some were interesting and financially more profitable, the challenge of playing in North America excited me most."

He turned down more money according to him to play here!!!!!

This is anti-Dero type of player that we've been waiting for!
