This is actually perfect for helping you study latin american politics. You should only be worried if you can't see the similarities.

Hahaha fair enough, I'll try to bring those similarities into my comparative essay.

Paul Mariner is GM though unless Mariner is out and Winter takes over Mariner's job?
Doubt Mariner is out. Maybe Mariner will just be involved with player development.

^ Carver's going to be at the game tonight. He's passing through on his way to the US. He's there ahead of Newcastle's preseason tour.

Interesting timing! lol

I wish we had Carver because he is entertaining off-field (espeically during press conference)

KJ reported that the players were told last week but no one batted an eye because de Klerk has been the one running practices and drills, etc.

And here I was thinking that they were actually addressing a problem,

bangersandmash
06-29-2011, 02:11 PM
Is it just me or could MLSE handle this better? Video record the announcement and send it out immediately. Then tell the media that they can show up to ask questions at a specific time, etc. That way the fans don't spend all day crapping their pants and the media get to add-value later? All this mystery doesn't exactly build good will.

Keyman
06-29-2011, 02:17 PM
My guess
Winter up to TD, De Klerk in as coach, Mariner is general manager. TFC also will announce the signing of Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans.

Jack
06-29-2011, 02:18 PM
This is a good move. As Pedro pointed out in an excellent post in another thread that I'm too lazy to dig up, the pressure on Winter to bring results NOW was hampering his ability to implement a "system" and a "culture" at TFC at all levels. Now De Klerk will handle more of the spotlight while Winter does more of the work to implement the vision for which he was hired.

Now it remains to be seen whether this will be successful. In some ways, him being on the sidelines for the first half of an abysmal season should certainly open his eyes to what needs to be done with this team.

Which still doesn't answer the question, what experience does Winter have in implementing a system or culture?

And does this move happen if TFC hadn't shit the bed in the first half of the season? If not, is this really a reward or a shifting away of responsibility which is usually a prelude to a departure?

The Fan590 just reported that as others have suggested, Winter will retain his role as Technical Director and De Clerk will assume the head coaching position.

Winter has never seemed comfortable in the media spotlight, and De Klerk seems to have a more charismatic and engaging personality condusive to coaching. Perhaps this might benefit the club moving forward.

Beckham is now 36 and performing well.
Blanco was great in his last years in MLS, all above 34.
Ljungberg is 34 and caught on at Celtic.

I think it all depends on the player... we'll see what Frings brings.

Would I be happier if Frings were 32 and Koevermans were 30? Of course. But we'll see what happens.

To be sure, these are the two highest profile players to ever suit up for TFC; I guess that in itself is something.

To be sure, these are the two highest profile players to ever suit up for TFC; I guess that in itself is something.

Without question. At the very least, it illustrates that the new regime is capable of bringing in the type of high profile players that Mo Johnston was incapable of recruiting.

It also demonstrates that despite the abysmal track record, MLSE is in fact willing to invest in 3 designated players.

I have, hes been a huge part of Bremen, their form and their success (this last season not so much, bigger issues regarding defence and too much trust in shitty players *Cough*Arnautovic*Cough*). Schaaf and Allofs have a thing for youth, hence him being cast aside, he can definitely still contribute and id go so far as to say he could be one of the best if not top 5 defensive mids (id say box to box, a la shalrie joseph) in the league. Ill be shocked if hes not. Dude will die for the team too. Definitely a player you want on your side, not afraid to get physical.

I've been watching this game a long time and Frings is one of my all time favourite players. I couldn't be happier that he's joined our club. He is the epitome of a leader on the pitch. Whether he's DM or elsewhere in the midfield he will take this team by the scruff of the neck and go balls to the wall at all times. The guy's a frigging killer!

Awesome.

Ooh, Winter just said they can play starting July 15 and that Winter is still looking for someone "complete" at the back. YES!

Initial contact with Frings was from Klinsmann, who quickly convinced him that TFC is worth joining.
