Don't have time to fully translate, but multiple reports in Portugal saying that LA offered 206K euros/annually + bonuses for objectives on a 1 yr contract, yet Nuno rejected the offer.

He still wants a run at UEFA.

He was treated like a god at the Benfica friendly in 2007.

He could live a mile from the stadium, eat the food he wants, and never speak English.

There could be truth to his wanting Toronto.

But but people here say European players only want to play in NYC, LA or any other major American city over Toronto because American lifestyle.

Well players like beckham and henry want that celebrity status

Nuno gomes is a humble player who wants to go where he'll be apreciated like he is in portugal

It's not a rule that's cast in stone, but you can't deny the overwhelming popularity of American cities over Canadian ones in the eyes of many professional athletes.

The exception to the rule shouldn't cast doubt on the validity of the rule.

Wasn't there all kinds of rumours floating around a couple of years ago, that Toronto had gone after him? I seem to remember reading something to this effect here.

He seems pretty washed up at this point, but I won't pretend that I follow his career very closely.

You're kind of mangling what "people" say. Star European footballers overwhelmingly seem to favour cities with lots of star power so far - like L.A. and New York. As with any general observation, it won't apply in 100% of cases.

Obviously it doesn't apply to any European player, because we've had several already. I don't think anyone here will argue that TFC aren't on equal footing when it comes to signing the Rohan Ricketts' of the world.

I can't see him settling for less than DP status and they already have their 3

He would be good, but not DP worthy.

He would the same age as when GBS joined Columbus, and not much older than Angel when he joined NYRB... but the league was different back in 2007.

I think it has improved somewhat since then.

Gomes is turning 35 next month, Angel was 31/32 when he joined the league.

Mista was 31 when he joined us:)

I don't think age is relevant beyond a rough barometer though.

Saying he loved playing here and saying he 'wants toronto' is a little bit of a reach.

He'd be a good non-DP signing, but it won't happen. He'll take take a front office job with SLB.
