Me too. My ticket was a mess. I could barely make out the printing. I chucked it....

If it's not open gates, that's fucked. As if they'll even get more than 200 people there tomorrow morning. Gonna look like a game at the DW tomorrow.

With the amount of rainfall Toronto has received over the past several hours, how could they conceivably play this match over again on Thursday morning? There's no way the pitch will be anywhere close to playable by the scheduled kickoff time.

You know, this will only grow this tourny's legend.

Also grow a rivalry with Toronto.

Montreal/Toronto have a natural rivalry. Montreal Vancouver have a rivalry they have developed in D2, but Toronto/Vancouver needed something, and if we win it after this do-over, it will just add to the Montreal Miracle Misery for Vancouver.

But you know what, I don't feel guilty at all.

Schedule makers fucked us.
Mother nature fucked them.

We're even now.

After the semi-one sided officiating in the first leg (for us for a change), and now this, it would be an embarrassment to lose! We have to win now! The third time is always the charm!!

Unfortunately, I'm working in the morning, so hopefully the rain continues, and the game can be rescheduled around Canada Day. Vancouver's already in town for the game June 29, and neither team plays that weekend.

the truly ironic thing about this is that while he was disgusted by the show of support by RPB, he conveniently forgot to mention that during the ENTIRE stoppage and half-time of play, the north stand had supporters in it singing, only to be joined by RPB and some U-Sector while the southend sat empty until kick-off. can anyone be blamed for heading to the concourse during the stoppage? of course not! but he'll argue that when play resumed 112 was empty!

well holy fucking shit, he was right! 112 WAS empty! but for some reason he failed to mention (because hes a hack journalist who has as much merit calling himself a supporter as i do calling myself an astronaut) that the empty 112 had filled up 15 rows in the north stand. of course where the real irony comes into play is how he's able to keep this very fluid amount of updates to his twitter account because he's enjoying the match from the CBC press box.

Everyone in the stadium knows what happened tonight. NEE, RPB, and some U-Sector joined forces in the North Stand to unite as a single voice, while 113 also kept the show rocking in the southend. what one single troll has to say, who might as well be commenting from vancouver, should be no skin off your back.

I hope we can all agree to ignore Duane's bullshit. To me, this pic below is all that matters.

Soccer is supposed to be the beautiful game. Surely, with all the diving, feigning of injuries and players begging the refs for their opponents to be carded, that image has been sullied over the years.
But, it’s supposed to be the game where sportsmanship reigns supreme. Where a team kicks the ball into touch if a player is hurt, no matter the uniform. And, it is assured it will get the ball back once it has done so.

Thursday morning’s replay of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship semifinal gives Aron Winter the chance to show that he isn’t just a good coach, but understands the greater good. Tomorrow, we have a chance to see not just a game to settle the Canadian title, but a chance for Winter to show that he is a man of character.

Winter will understand that, because of freakish weather, the Vancouver Whitecaps’ deserved 1-0 lead — their elimination of TFC’s road goal from the first leg — is wiped clean.

Yes, the Canadian Soccer Association’s rules are quite clear. A match that is abandoned must be replayed in full.

But Winter can still do the right thing. He can order his troops to take the opening kickoff and then fire the ball into their own goal.

and because i want to beat him to the punch; a writer that calls himself a professional would have never posted those tweets regardless of his "passion of the atmosphere". a professional journalist/blogger would have signed off with an apology to the groups he called out (incorrectly) infront of his 1900+ followers rather then sign off asking what time a bar opens tomorrow when he's clearly had enough to drink as it is.

What an utter load of crap.

Would the Whitecaps have offered a similar gesture to TFC if the circumstances were vice versa? I think not.

By that rationale, Vancouver should have also played a friendly against a random team in high altitude this past Sunday to level the competitive playing field.

In Major League Baseball, games get rained out frequently (prior to being considered official after the 5th inning) and are subsequently rescheduled and replayed in their entirety.

The weather is unpredictable, the official rules are clear as to the viable alternatives, and a moral code of ethics is absolutely not a part of the equation.

All this talk of "The right thing to do" and let Vancouver score.

So I guess the Canucks are going to call back that OT goal to win the series against San Jose because it was totally unfair how the puck went off the stanchion right to Bieksa, who scored with the goalie and everyone not even looking. I'm mean come on, that wasn't fair. It'd be the "classy" right thing to do to wouldn't it?

Give me a fucking break. That's the way the puck bounces and that's the breaks with bad weather. Vancouver can be little babies and cry all they want.

One aspect of the match that's been conveniently overlooked by the Shitecaps is that TFC scored a goal that should have counted right before the match was called. A buddy of mine who was watching on television just told me that the replays showed that the ball clearly crossed the line.

In essence, TFC was dominating the second half, and the match should have been 1-1 when it was postponed, so Thordarson can take his quote that they "were well on their way" to winning the match and shove it up his whiny ass.

In a Carling Cup match in August of 2007 with Nottingham Forest up 1-0 at home Leicester City defender Clive Clarke suffered a heart attack in the dressing room at half-time. Both teams decided that the match could not continue under the circumstances.

Three weeks later the match was replayed and at kick off, the entire Leicester City team allowed Forest's GK Paul Smith to take the ball and put it into the goal effectively restoring Forest's 1-0 lead from the previous match.

That's my proposition. Most won't like it, but it is the sporting thing to do.

I am still confused.

Was the game called off over danger of lightning or was the game called off because the pitch was unplayable?

If it was the pitch, is it because no pitch on the planet would have endured the rainstorm from last night or is there something wrong with the drainage at BMO Field?

Based on the official story on the MLS website, last night was cancelled primarily due to lightning, and this morning was postponed due to the conditions of the pitch.

Sporting, yes.. but under far different circumstances; no one had suffered a heart-attack, here.

MU4Ever also makes a good point about something I was already, myself, wondering about.

For me and given that we were the more dominant team, on the night, I would say that the sporting thing to do would be for Vancouver to put the ball into their net, first.. then we can follow and it would be better than it stands now, without giving them a full advantage.

Was the game called off over danger of lightning or was the game called off because the pitch was unplayable?

take your pick.

there were huge lightning bolts AND a totally flooded pitch.

the only time I've seen lightning like that over a soccer match was in South Carolina right before a hurricane. We were standing in the rain, and then CRACK, the sky totally lit up and all the players who were running just changed direction and ran (same speed) right into the dressing rooms. We stood there like idiots with flagpoles in the air for a few seconds, until we realized just how dangerous it was.

I got back from work last night to watch the recording of the game. I couldn't remember the last time I saw something more bizzare than what transpired last night.

Bottom line here, after trailing 1-0 with two thirds of the match played, an act of God saved us from losing the Voyageurs Cup to the Shitecraps on home turf. Our side needs to take full advantage of this lucky break July 2. :scarf:

So what does this mean for Concacaf qualifiying? I thought I read last night the qualifier match was going to be in June.

No, the play-in against the Nicaraguan team isn't until the end of July, with the return leg in early August.

I seem to remember a previous V-Cup that ended on Canada Day, so there's no prob there. This edition of the tourney was ending quite early.

Not saying it's what I would do, but certainly more reasonable.

I was just citing the only example I could think of off the top of my head. If it means anything Forest lost the game 3-2

Roogsy, I think Parkdale meant that the match would have likely been cancelled anyway because of the combination of the elements.

The wind, rain, lightning, and conditions of the pitch honestly made it feel like a tornado was coming.

I am still confused.

Was the game called off over danger of lightning or was the game called off because the pitch was unplayable?

If it was the pitch, is it because no pitch on the planet would have endured the rainstorm from last night or is there something wrong with the drainage at BMO Field?

The game was put on hold due to the lightning danger. By the time it was deemed safe to put the teams back on the field, the rain had made the pitch unplayable (or nearly so).

The lighting caused the delay which allowed the water to build up. That said, with the vast volumes of water that were falling at the end of the half, it is debatable whether or not the second half would have been completed even if it had started on time.

Considering the field conditions, it was ridiculous to even try to start the second half when it did in fact kick off.

Edit: And as others have said, the lightning never really did end so I agree with Mike. Take your pick.

I imagine a lot of punters would've found that Forest v Leicester game interesting, had they known what they were going to do.

Tomorrow, we have a chance to see not just a game to settle the Canadian title, but a chance for Winter to show that he is a man of character.

Yes, the Canadian Soccer Association’s rules are quite clear. A match that is abandoned must be replayed in full.

There was no intention of disrespect on our part, but by the time we realized what you guys were doing, we weren't going to miss game action to migrate to the north.

(Plus, I was told at half time that everyone was going to congregate at the bottom of 112/113)

I was in 113 mate, and I was louder than your megaphone dude so give it a fucking rest.
We haven't had a megaphone since the first game of the season.

No wonder he's with U-Sec
???

WTF is that supposed to mean?

sorry i missed the migration to the north, ended up in 113 with a couple of whiny bithces.
Who exactly was whining in 113? From where I stood, we were jumping and singing just as hard as anyone else in that stadium during the biggest storm we've seen at BMO Field, ever.

Our capo even had us coordinating chants with what was going on in the North.

Guys, let's not turn this into a group vs. group bitchfest. U-Sector as a whole has nothing to do with what you seem to be pissed off at.

I know we're having a good laugh at Vancouver right now - but could you imagine the bitching and moaning that would go on here if something like this happened to us...?

I mean, there's a large amount of people that bitch and moan when we win, bitch and moan more when we lose, could you imagine what it would be like if we got jobbed a bit...???

We might want to think about the glass houses analogy right now...

With all due respect I think you are way off the mark if you think that we would be be bitching to even close to the same level of what the Whitecaps fans are doing. And if we did bitch we would be bitching about our bad luck.

They are talking conspiracy, entitlement, that they are the "true" champions no matter the eventual outcome, that we should gift them a goal in the next match from a game that now technically never actually happened... craxzy shit like that.

Yes we would be pissed off. But not even close to the same level of self indulgence that they are doing out west.

Guys, Duane said it was him making the comments and not the group. He is a big boy and knew what he was doing.

He wasnt even sitting in 113, his tweets say that - he was working in the press box.

If he had been in 113 he would have known that the guys went to the north to support the team for the second half given the conditions.

He didnt know that and took the chance to take some cheap shots at the group.

You could have started off your post by distancing yourself from his tweets but instead you chose to start it with "no one told us about...". While your post does make it clear he was not speaking on behalf of your group, it is also quite apparent you are protecting one of your own that decided to take an undeserved swipe at us instead of doing the stand-up thing and saying he was flat out wrong for what he did. @bignewf:

you're completely right buddy. i've read everything from the fact that winter was wasting time under false reports of "player saftey" (IE: he doesn't want to put soaking wet players in a metal stadium while there was a lightening storm happening) to someone claiming that they saw the sprinklers on at BMO during the intermission.

seriously, they said we had the fucking sprinklers on!!

everything from that, to us being in bed with the MLS/CSA. folks are even suggesting to contact CONCACAF and just verbally referring to the whitecaps as "the true champions" regardless of the outcome of the next match. if you want to see them get their backs up, my co-worker dropped this little gem on me, he was ranting so try and do this all in one breath for the full effect:

"why would TFC play the next game with an own goal down? out of sportsmanship? what? so wait, then canucks should award the game to the sharks. they scored a goal off of a play that hit sedin and was whistled as icing. it hit him, he knew it hit him, he reacted to it, but they tied the game off of that play. they scored the winning goal off of a play that should've been whistled dead because all four refs, according to NHL guidelines, lost track of the puck. fuck off sportsmanship, you win a game playing the full 90 minutes. not by playing 60 and trying to drag it out for another 5 minutes so you can claim it by default. they don't want to play again? fuck them, we earned our six goals!!"

(This first part is also directed at Jeffro's last response to me)

Fair enough. I did get defensive when certain people here took shots at my group for the words of one man. I tend to do that.

My aim was not to "ease the anger" over Duane. That's not my job, nor is it a hobby of mine. And to be frank, I don't really care who is angry at Duane (he's a polarizing guy at the best of times :)).

That said, he is a friend of mine, and a member of my group, so I'm not going to publicly throw him under the bus either. What I've said to him in private is between him and I, and while I don't owe anyone here an explanation for that, I'll go on record as telling him privately that I strongly disagreed with him.

I've spoken for the group here by saying that there was no disrespect intended by us staying in the south stands (especially as we were under the impression that everyone would be congregating there anyway). We've also tweeted out that RPB did not abandon the match, but was in the north stand with NEE. Roogsy, you were included in that tweet.

I'm not sure what you are expecting me to do here. I just came to clarify that U-Sector the group had no problems with RPB heading over to the north, and in fact tried to coordinate with you the best we could given the circumstances.

(We failed... er... massively at trying to start a cross-field Massive)

Anyway, see you guys Saturday.

i already had one of their supporters say that if that's my argument, the "most fair" course of action would be to restart the game from the spot it was left at, in the exact same circumstances. he mentioned the canucks goal should be erased, and the game restarted from where it left off. this makes sense to him:

THE CANUCKS SHOULD BRING THE SHARKS BACK TO PLAY 20 SECONDS OF THE THIRD PERIOD DOWN 2-3.

instead of replaying the game in it's entirety. i've never made it a point to call another fan stupid, but..

I don't feel sorry for Vancouver at all. The rules were laid out for all prior to this tourney. It was unsafe for the players to continue. Shit happens.

That being said, I think it's funny to hear people suggesting that, if the roles were reversed, TFC wouldn't be acting like whiny bitches like the Vancouver supporters.

Bullshit. Plain and simple.

Combine the circumstances from last night (shitty luck for Vancouver) with the "Miracle" in Montreal (where Montreal rolled over and died) and you have a group of supporters (who I'm sure already hated Toronto) who are going to start spouting ridiculous shit.

And like I said, if it were TFC that was hard done by the reaction would be just the same.

I'd wager it would be worse.

I for one will not gloat if we win on July 2nd. Take the trophy, hold it high and work on playing well in the CCL so that Vancouver can't start with the:

First of all, what professional soccer player does anything for free? If they wanted to keep him, all they had to do was incentivize the letter of commitment. Second, how does his claim of wanting to seriously considering signing the letter at a point that is also convenient for him agree with your point that he didn't want to be a "member of the team"? Should all contracts be agreed to only when it is convenient for one side of the contract only?

apparently someone did go from the north stand and talk to one of the prominent members of u-sector about moving, but play was literally just resuming so that's why the decision to stay in the southend was made apparently, and fair play. but yes, someone did in fact invite u-sector to come. hopefully next time, with a bit better coordination between NEE, RPB, and U-Sector, we could literally have that north stand shaking to its foundation. the north stand is where the future of TFC support lays.

Wrong, Vancouver is an ugly city with some nice mountains and nature around it.

^An ugly city filled with heroin-injecting denizens

I lived in Burnaby for a year, and I have to admit Vancouver is a great place to visit but it's literally hell to live there. They have higher traces of illicit narcotics in their drinking water than anywhere else in Canada, they have more gang activity on their streets than Toronto has ever seen, one of the world's highest suicide rates, severed feet wash up to shore REGULARLY and they hate EVERYTHING to do with Toronto. You know how some of us will support the Vancouver hockey team from time to time or support Canadian Olympians from Vancouver? Yeah, not in BC, they don't play that game.

Vancouver fuckers want two things, to be noticed by Toronto and to be better at anything than Toronto. Sadly, the fail more often than not on the latter, and, obviously, the former never happens :)

No need for carping whatsoever, that was an excellent show lads. Well done.

Way i see it, we get a free game out of the deal, plus that was fun, plus we got saved by the bell, plus it grows the legend that is we.

My quick thoughts on this whole thing...

Not trying to poke a fire, but we are down 1-nil and we are attacking the south end. Why would we want to unify the support in the North?

I would like to have one solid voice in the stands, it would be incredible and I really think supporters are starting to get it. No need for highschool drama, we are here to support a god damn soccer team, thats it.

But, when TFC are attacking the south end, I personally will not suggest a move to the North stand.

This was my initial reaction but what was explained to me was that last time NÉE came to the south so we should return the favour.

The other reason was to show what could be possible by giving us control of our own section (ie north end). This would work best with as many people as possible. Unfortunately it is not really easy to set that up well in advance so last minute ideas aren't always communicated properly.

Sean... it would be interesting.

It's more of a gut feel.

It always feels like the players are celebrating in the north end more than the south end when it comes to goals.

Like I said, it's more of feeling than a fact.

Having the North Stands empty out completely is the perfect time to experiment. The decision to go there was calculated and done on purpose. There is a real grassroots movement happening. To unite all supporters no matter affiliation or unaffiliated at all. This would be impossible in the south end due to season ticket holder rights on seats, tourists, people looking for cheap tickets and scalpers. The north is a completely clean slate. A time to right the wrongs, a time to drop the egos, a time to let bygones be bygones. Other teams have studied our success and corrected those mistakes. We are getting left behind in terms of support. Attendance is at an all time low. Apathy is setting in with many diehards who'd have previously skipped a wedding for a TFC match. We have the numbers right now to be great. To show everyone this TFC thing was not a fad or a fluke. Every year the wrongs continue and those numbers dwindle.

Last night would be the tip of the iceberg in terms of support. We filled a whole section...we could fill the whole North Stand. Imagine the voices, imagine the tifos. Fuck, i'm getting all John Lennon in here but imagine a day when there was no bickering and we all stood side by side. We all need to let things go from the past.

This needs to happen. The time is now.

So on Saturday when TFC are attacking the north end, it's safe to say you'll be there too until half time? if you didn't want to come and unify in the north end, that's fine. but i highly doubt that if they had been attacking the north end in the second half that you would have came. but, i am glad you agree on the one voices deal....it needs to happen.

Different perspective,

I remember one game when NEE came down to the South when it was all but dead in our zone. That was a nice gesture to unify support. I can't see why we wouldn't do the same at some point. Also, there are many ppl in our group that have been very vocal about moving to the North Stands - permanently. Spending a half there does not surprise me.

Yea thats cool, and Im not really emotional about it. I just wondered why?

My thought in general was that: Hey the team is attacking the south end, we sit in the south end, lets stay.

I still don't even know if what we do effects the team, but I like to think if we were screaming in their face on corner kicks, pressing attacks, etc... they may go a little bit harder.

In the end, no biggy, just asked a question.

If we want to be aprt of something amazing here...its time for the 3 groups to come together!!!

WHY NOT Approach MLSE for a trial run for JULY 2nd???? NORTH STAND!

You have to admit, and I say this at the risk of other-ing a bunch of people, but there's a terribly large symbolic gesture inherent in moving from Our Home to Their Home. I'd never dream of asking NEE to change their name to SEE, but people are asking a fairly sizable group to drop where they've been for near on half a decade. There's going to be resistance, both in light of all the effort that was made to get people into 112, but especially since MLSE has made no indication that having us move to the North Stand, and changing it to supporters pricing (which is a fucking must, it's gouge city right now in there) and giving us control over the section is something they're even willing to consider.

If those two conditions are met, then the dialogue can start, but until then, it's meaningless words, like "ramalangadingdong", and "give peace a chance."

Not...
Support happens from every side of the field N,S,W,E.
The fact that TFC was attacking the south end in the 2nd half doesn't matter. The timing was perfect, how ofter are we going to have the opportunity to unite in the North Stands.
It was a spur of the moment thing to head north.

I'm confused as to where all this interest to move north is coming from.

We now have 5 years of tradition of being in the south end. Why do we want to move to the north?

In a perfect world both the south and north would be packed with supporters, its just too bad that the club fucked up running this team that the supporter's groups numbers have stagnated (or even decreased).

My seats are centre field in the east stands. When the wind is coming off the lake (very often as we know) the sound of the south end carries beautifully into the rest of the stadium. Not so true about the north end. I know it's partly scale. Thanks to all in the north and south ends who have been doing yoeman's work supporting the players. With the atmosphere all but departed from my section it's much appreciated.

There isn't the numbers to have both the south and north packed with support. Supporters don't control their sections. They're scattered all throughout the stadium. You have people in 105 and 224 who'd love to be vocal and jump but they can't get into those sections. You also have ppl in 112, 113 and 127 who could care less about singing or jumping and think standing is a pain in the arse.

I used to be a lot more rigid in years past. I liked the tradition of my section and took pride in my group over everything. While i am still proud of my group and will always identify with it, i will not allow any of it to come before supporting this club. We are a club whose supporters are divided. If we want to continue to strive to be the best i don't see any other alternative than unite. The voices in the north stand were a thing of beauty, looking back and seeing everyone side by side regardless of affiliation. Support has dropped, interest has dropped. We need to bring back the excitement.

We haven't had a megaphone since the first game of the season.

well you needed to read it like this,
louder than your megaphone, dude.

Im pretty sure ive seen Duane with a megaphone, and hahaha, I was louder than it!

I wasnt directing anything at U-sector at all, the intergroup bullshit is meaningless to me at this stage. I dont even call myself RPB and I got offended by Duanes statement, because it reflected on 112 while stroking his own absurd perception of his group identity as 'the stalwarts who remain when all else fuck off'

People from all groups left, and a whole bunch of unaffiliated people stayed. These guys buffed up 113 along with a bunch of us who moved down from 112.

Myself, I stayed, but I dont look down on anybody who left, in fact they were smarter than I was IMO.

Arguing about where those who stayed, stood, is ridiculous.

ticket prices in the yellow or light gray at worst

show me something, anything, the slightest chance that FO are willing to even hear a proposal

Holding on to the past will leave all of us in the past. If we stay stubborn soon enough we'll be looking back and talking about 'the good ole days'. How can conditions be set if there is no dialogue? It's like you've defeated yourself before you even started.

is there a dialogue? is there a chance for a dialogue? it simply isn't in their best interest to give us so much power, and they know it. it took months to move 12 people into 112, and after the fiasco with the smoke and flares, you really think they're going to play ball?

also i really can't believe NEE would even consider moving to the south end, if we had the space, which we do exactly as much as we have the north stand.
