Way to gut out the draw boys. Vancouver fans have to be really disappointed with the result. They could have easily won 3-0.

Real question is how many came for the match, and how many came for the free copy of FIFA 11?

Lucky to walk out with a point off that one. The game next week is going to be intense! Come on you Reds!!!

I only watched the first half (old, need my sleep) and I thought the game was pretty even...I guess Vancouver took it to us in the second half. We need to steal points wherever we can.

I hope we have a newar full house next week.

2 cross-bar hits and a hit off the post all before they scored their goal. Extremely poor start to the second half.

It really does highlight that some of our bench/depth players are just not ready yet. With Peterson & Tchani going off injured the game completely changed. It became very open, formation was breaking down in the midfield, etc.

We were very lucky to get out of Van with an away goal, let alone a tie. TFC will be in very tough for the return leg. Vancouver looks very hungry to win the NCC.

Well, the positive - a draw on the road, and a NCC Final showdown at BMO Field on Wednesday...

The negative - not the best performance, and some injury worry...

This weekend will go a long way to see how much Winter values the NCC Title...

Personally, with Vancouver having the week off (I think) and the boys playing on that marble-logged picth - I'd like to see the B-Squad out their on the weekend. Rest up the big guns and the guys who log the KM's on the pitch - and head into Wednesday as fresh as possible...

Hell, I'd send some guys home now, bring in some of the youngsters and have them work on stuff specifically designed for the Vancouver game at BMO field now...

In a full re-building year, winning the NCC would be a nice treat - especially since it looks like its going to be a battle with Vancouver...

I bet Winter plays a strong squad on Sunday. That seems to be his method.

By the way, do you have the TV numbers for last nights game?

1st half I would agree, 2nd half was all together different.

Matt Gold was lost out there. The kid, (although he is 22), just had no clue where to be. He had no idea how to make himself available for the ball or to draw players with him when we had possession. I'm not seeing his footy IQ out there and that worries me. I'm hoping it's just a lack of time in the system and playing minutes.

Cordon has so much upside and potential I love this kid! But sometimes he forces the play and when we lose possession our formation is completely blown and we get countered easily. However, with Cordon I see him reading the flow of the game and trying to get into positive positions. (big difference between him and Gold) I think Cordon will learn when to push the play and when to keep it simple.

What is with the Sun's coverage of TFC lately though? I'm no big Wheeler fan, and can't say I'm missing him, but you have 3 (or more) different people writing about the club lately, none of whom is particularly knowledgeable. Why not have one beat writer who actually knows what he's talking about?

- Some have suggested that was a penalty. I know John Molinaro believed it was and I know Forrest mentioned it on air. It was a judgement call.

- Kurt Larson is the analysis guy for the Sun. He's probably the best TFC reporter in terms of analysis working for one of the major newspapers. I think this is his first year covering the team. Only thing is like Wheeler used to be, his column only appears on Mondays.

- Matt Gold is your typical NCAA product. He's the reason why teams should have academies instead of relying on NCAA products.

Even if it was a backpass - it would be a yellow and an indirect freekick - not a penalty...

This...Molinaro and Forrest both thought it was a backpass and this is the consequence of a backpass, not a Penalty.

i hope you're not talking about the backpass here, because a backpass is never, ever a penalty, it's an indirect free kick

True, and it wasn't a back pass,it was Gargans wooden leg,you can hear the sound when ball hits him in the leg,no intention there at all.:D

We've all seen Gargan pass. It was pin-point accuracy, so there was no way he did it on purpose!

In my opinion, Gargan controlled the direction of the ball with his foot to Frei - I would have called it a penalty...

But its a tough one for the official in a split second...

IMO the big mistake I beleive was Frei. "Safety First". When in doubt - thump it out.

Since there was a glimmer, even a 1% chance the official could say "penalty" he should have be cautious and just thumped it...

But moot point - and I ain't no footy official (as my rules would allow full out body checking probably LOL ;) )

I'm thinking, based on this and the other challenge - the official wanted NOTHING of calling a PK in this match LOL

The ref saw it was Gargan and realized that he could not do that backpass on purpose !!!

A backpass (which it likely was) is not a penalty. It's an indirect free kick from the spot where the keeper handled it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A757433

Since Frei was almost on the goal line, it would have been VERY interesting. Although, being that close is almost more of disadvantage, since the wall can stand on the goal line, i.e., about 2 ft. from the ball.

it went off his shin, no foot, nicely to frie, we're lucky in so many ways with the result... that could have been a blunder in to the net or hit someone in the hand if it was any other day

Lets not forget the most likely scenario - incompetent ref calls something out of the blue! :D

That being said, I thought the ref last night was consistent in his calls last night - if I was Vancouver I would have been screaming for a PK on Cann's (I think Cann) challenge in the box...

i was talking before the 1/2

but even with the kids in, it was better than usual. Gold looks like a defencemen playing midfield
