Gerry Dobson just tweeted this:

It appears Attakora is finished with #TFC (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23TFC). Released, traded or something.

WOW - I think this could be the first decision Winter makes that I'll question. Unless he was traded for someone with a more immediate need. It's obvious Winter doesn't favor him at CB or RB. So if we get an AM out of it it may not be the end of the world.

If he was outright released all hell will break lose.

whatever the situation is it most likely came down to the inability of Nana to fit into Aron's system. Lord knows there are plenty of guys that fit this description, but how many of them are actually tradeable commodities ?

Something has been up with Nana all season, he alluded to vague "personal" reasons as being the culprit for his drop in play. My feeling is that whatever is going on in his life right now has taken precedence to his football career and has left the club to deal with it.

Hold on. Weren't some people leaving himm out of their own lineups for upcoming games? It was clear the 2- Winter and Nana- weren't seeing eye to eye on something.

That said I wish he was working out for us this year. Last year was immense progress in his game.

Disagree. He's a better defender, marker, athlete AND passer than Cann or Harden. He's not a great passer, but few central defenders are. And he is athletic enough to move into space with the ball (as demonstrated by playing fullback when he was younger.)

Losing him would be disgraceful. In face, so far his treatment this season has seemed shoddy. He's had one poor game, a couple of mediocre ones. I worry that his ouster is a character issue, as he's softspoken almost to the point of stuttering and Winter is a former top-level player; those aren't characters one would particularly expect to gel.

Disagree. He's a better defender, marker, athlete AND passer than Cann or Harden. He's not a great passer, but few central defenders are. And he is athletic enough to move into space with the ball (as demonstrated by playing fullback when he was younger.)

The key in Winter's system is holding onto ball, off-ball movement and passing. Given Nana hasn't shown any signs of improvement in those areas during his time with Toronto (he's pretty close to his prime years now) hard to say he will ever become the type of defender to become successful in Winter's system. The same can be said to most of defenders on this team.

But it doesn't change the fact that Nana isn't right fit in Winter's system. Unless Nana improves his passing skills, then he will be a good asset to trade to get a good player in return.

Oh enough.

Winter doesnt fit right into Winter's system....... whatever it is.

I think some of players Winter bought in are good enough to fit into Winter's system.

You seem to be one of the lucky enlightened few who have some kind of idea of exactly what this system is, how its supposed to work, and what kind of player is needed to implement it.

Could you please forward your findings to Aron Winter at BMO Field?

Like people in other professions, we in the media make mistakes. Myself included. We`re not perfect. Far from it.

I don`t know the story behind today, but I know Gerry and he`s not a rumour monger. As far as I can remember, this is the only major mistake he`s made. Please keep that in mind when judging him.

That`s not to say you shouldn`t hold us accountable when we make mistakes. You should.

Yeah well, I made a mistake at work today and I still get to go back tomorrow.

It happens. I'm sure Dobson feels like crap and will learn from it.

But it's Nana you have to feel for. Guy is already feeling like crap today and gets blindsided by a rumour he's gone from the team. Poor guy probably just wanted to get home, take a couple Advil, and get some rest. Sounds like he took it well though. Good for him.

TFC didn't give Rogers any league games. In turn, Rogers attempts to try and frustrate players to get them to leave TFC :sarcasm:

I'm surprised he could identify Nana. I would've expected him to call him Ricketts or Wynne.

My perception about Gerry Dobson - he's very different from a Kristian Jack, ie someone who is close to the players. Dobson is very close to the team FOs (sometimes too close) and people involved in the CMNT.

Examples: Dobson was the first one (only one?) who got to talk to Klinsmann personally. When Montreal was having the fight with MLS over the expansion fee, Dobson was alone in publicly defending Saputo (something that made me and others think Dobson was being ridiculous). I don't really like Dobson but even I know he's done a lot of important reporting on the CSA and the men's team.

Because of this history and who he talks to, when it's a CMNT and TFC player, even when Dobson makes a mistake like this, it's pretty interesting.

Or it could be nothing.

A specious argument. It's irrational to trust sources you don't know, and it's equally irrational to allow a middleman to do the trusting for you when he's being paid to write stories.

The pervasive influence of anonymous sources has been a blight on our industry for 40 years. If someone's going to be fired -- realistically, not just fearing it -- for talking to someone, that's one thing. But simply speaking out is anyone's right.

We minimize that right -- and our own responsibility to be accurate -- when we take names out of stories.

It's nothing. The concept of modern reporters who are "really close" to their sources borders on fantasy, a relic from an era when there were enough staff to have dedicated beats and "source cultivation."

Today, cultivating sources, while still important, is largely a matter of getting a friendly tip here and there, not of building and maintaining in-depth trust relationships. Beat sports reporters will tell you otherwise, but most of them have been using anonymous sources for so long, their reliability is something of a crap shoot -- even if they are wrong, they won't burn their source, for fear of losing other nameless, useless sources.

I can pretty much guarantee you that Dobson has a minimal connection, if that, to the team.

Not what I'm saying. I'm not actually suggesting that Dobson is "close" to the team, more that he's a "mouthpiece of choice" for the team. I think he does have a bit of credibility on the CMNT beat.

Is this why Craig Forrest tweeted something about "Jumped the gun a bit, Nana still with TFC - for now"?

I'll be pissed if we lose Nana, he's been one of our best and most improved defenders the last couple of seasons, and he hasn't suddenly become a bad player overnight. Given his age, versatility and nationality, would hope that Winter would work with him rather than ship him out.
