Good news for Accies. The ground isn't difficult to get to if they were to have matches there like the reserves on the weekend.

Hart's non-opportunist stance on capping Canadians playing abroad is suppose to be a show of strength on the CSA program but I fear will be taken as laziness on their part, not doing enough to woo these players that could help our team the most. A no-win situation for him in a way.

CSA accountability? All for it. Now how do we put pressure on implementation?

Very happy to hear Hart had a face to face recently with Hoilett. I am still hoping when he finally decides to name his allegiance that he will pick Canada.....he is a key component we need right now.

I suspect that TFC are not as concerned about attendance as one might think. The new business model is to be another Ajax: churn out players to sell. Even with MLS taking a cut, it will prove to be the model of the future.

yep.

and think of the stars Winter probably has in his eyes.

A nation of a MILLION+ youth playing soccer and NOTHING in place to properly deal with them. Just looking at the odds - if this Academy can find 4 players that command a $5million transfer fee (which isn't much) then they've paid for the entire thing. And with over a million people out there.... we might just find a few kids worth more than $5mil.

Let's just hope that Toronto FC keeps a few of them for the senior team (at least for a few years).

And they've already sold 16,000+ tickets to every game for this year. They've got several months before they need to start worrying about next year!

Most teams (the major European academies) look to find one player every five years. TFC was trying to get academy kids to be on the senior roster (which they have accomplished - that helps justify the expenditure). Players that actually command a transfer fee are hard to come by, especially in a place like Canada, even with a million local players.

Unfortunately, most top athletes here prefer hockey or other sports ahead of soccer.

The new training facility is the most important thing that has ever happened to this club and I don't think that is an overstatement.

It will pay off huge!

I'm very pleased by the news.

Assuming of course you take their numbers at face value.

For years, the league has reported ticket distributed in their attendance figures. Now, for this game apparently, TFC opted to report actual butts in seats??

We have a good discussion going on in another thread but to condense the arguments:

- MLS quoted as saying it counts distributed tickets in its official attendance base back in 2006.

- TFC reported nearly 19,000 fans in "attendance" as part of the G20 LA Galaxy game. But all accounts were that the stadium was noticably empty. Prompting the FO to issue free tickets to those that couldn't make it. When is the last time the FO issued free tickets if they really had close to 19,000 folks?

- They are reporting 17,000 season tickets sold. Really? After years of capping it at 16,000 and the year following dwindling crowds, protests and town halls you actually grew your season ticket base by 1,000?

I'd wager that their attendance numbers are actually cause for concern and this is an attempt to get out in front of the story with some spin and mis-information.

I don't think it's as hard as you'd think. There are many talented kids out there - and I'm not even talking just in the GTA - who's talents are not recognized early enough to be taught by proper coaching staff - not volunteer parents.

If the setup is executed properly, I think we're going to be seeing multiple players from each graduating class being snatched up from this academy. Not nessesarily Rooney type super stars, but Edu type players for sure.

I understand where Hart is coming from because i'd imagine he's as frustrated or even moreso than anyone with player defections.

The problem is, like in any sport, if you don't have the players you're not going to succeed. Young Star athletes are like spoiled little girls, they need to feel special and be coddled. It's unfortunate, but it's the way she goes.

In reality, pride for YOUR country and your dream of playing in a world cup for YOUR country should be enough, but it's not the way it is. Wanting players on your team who want to be there, is one thing, but going another 8 or 12 years without a world cup appearance is another.

Actually the official stance from the league was that every team reported tickets distributed except for TFC which would report actual scanned tickets.
I always thought that was weird but that was the claim from the very beginning.

Now, of course I'm not claiming the TFC front office has to state the truth but this is what was "apparently" being done all along.

So then we are to believe that 18,809 folks passed through the gate for the game played during the G20 which prompted the FO to give away tickets for the first time in their history?

No we aren't because we aren't stupid. I'm just saying that the official word from the front office was that they were always reporting tickets scanned.
The official word from "people with eyes" like us is that they report a random number that they think they can get away with that is located somewhere in between the actual attendance and the number of tickets sold.

According to Serbian media TFC is trying to sign defender Nikola Mikic, hes been getting a chance to play recently and is doing well so I'm not sure if Red Star wants to give him up but he would be a solid addition.

Plays right back and centre back.

It's a good idea that they keep looking at defenders because that is our obvious weak point this season. VERY WEAK.

Speaking with a British friend of mine, he says he's seen a few rumblings in the media about Hoilett getting called up to the England squad for matches.

This is what he wants and what he'll get. He'll be cap tied by the Euro 2012 championship, I'd wager my bank account on it.

I'm just hoping he's like many of the other delusional idiots who get cap tied by England once, then never see the 1st team again, essentially wasting their international career chasing a country that isn't their own.

He listed a couple players who England recently did that too, but their names escape me at the moment.

but Edu type players for sure.

yeah, I think it's reasonable to expect that over 20 years of the academy facility land lease agreement, they could develop 4 Maurice Edu-quality players.

Edu was good in his time here but he wasn't the greatest player in the world... and yet somebody paid $5 million for him.

Rangers bought Edu for his potential, and I think he's 5 mil well spent for them, considering how good he's been

Actually it's a fairly decent sized sum.

Keep in mind that Simeon Jackson made the jump from a relegated League 1 side to a Championship promotion challenger for about 1.5 million pounds.

Rangers isn't far off of a Championship promotion side in terms of quality. Maybe a little more talented but not much (there's a reason why they want to join the English Pyramid, it's because they want more money and that will allow them to acquire better players).

While 5 million isn't staggering, it's a good chunk of change for a player from a league Europeans know very little about.

Good, then TFC should be able to make even more off transfers of young talent.

Cuz Edu was no world beater. Good player. But I'm sure this academy can find 4 of those guys in 20 years. If they don't, the academy is probably a failure.
