Paul Dickov trained Thursday with Toronto FC, while Darren Huckerby travelled to have a look at things with the San Jose Earthquakes.
But Toronto FC has first rights in Major League Soccer for both players, who have experience in the English Premier League, and general manager Mo Johnston will begin negotiations with them on Friday.

Hucks set for America

03 July 2008

Darren Huckerby has made the first moves towards launching a new career in America.

The axed Canaries star was in Toronto on Tuesday to watch John Carver's team lose at home for the first time this season, beaten 1-0 by the Vancouver Whitecaps in front of a crowd of almost 19,000.

Toronto - whose team included his former Norwich team-mates Jim Brennan and Carl Robinson - have filed a discovery claim on Huckerby, meaning they have first refusal on his services, but the 32-year-old is also interesting San Jose Earthquakes in California.

San Jose are unable to make a move until they now how serious Toronto's interest is, but Carver dropped a big hint after the match that he needed to bring in attacking reinforcements.

“It's a no-brainer, isn't it,” he said. “Unless we get some new additions.”

Huckerby may well have been on his mind, although former Manchester City player Paul Dickov was also at the game.

Ameobli still not signed anywhere...

Keegan, though, may have an unexpected extra body in his squad on Monday in the shape of Shola Ameobi, with the United striker still no closer to finding a move away from St James’s Park.
The Academy product has been linked with moves to West Brom, Norwich and Hull City as well as Toronto FC in the MLS.
But his agent Steven Denos ruled out a move Stateside last month despite TFC boss John Carver’s continued interest.
Yet there have been no other takers for the £3.5m-rated player who made his Toon debut in 2000.

Good news regarding attendances:

Going into a weekend with another sold-out crowd for Galaxy at the HDC, it’s a good time to point out a positive development beyond the team’s much-improved play over last season…attendance is also up significantly !
In fact, LA’s average for their first 14 regular-season matches (both home and away) leads the entire league, and is near 26,000 -25,978 to be exact…
Fully half of their regular-season matches this year have been sold-out, and what makes the average number so great is that the capacity at Home Depot Center tops out at 27,000.

Because of the growing attendances and resulting spectator demand for more seats at the Home Depot Center, that venue and others MLS stadiums with regular sell-outs such as Toronto FC’s BMO Field are looking closely at the rising numbers and and may consider expansion in the near future. Galaxy has a tradition of being the league’s leading team for attendance, and TFC has the second-highest average, with a much smaller home venue.

In fact, it is possible that we will see even more teams with over 20,000 average when all is said and done this season, and that would likely mean the best year ever for attendances for Major League Soccer.

The Impact have strengthened their backline ahead of the Canada Cup match:

The Impact acquired midfielder Tony Donatelli from the Vancouver Whitecaps Monday in exchange for veteran forward Charles Gbeke and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Donatelli is a 24-year-old native of Glenside, Penn., who had been with the Whitecaps since 2006 and received the team's unsung hero award last season after scoring five goals in 29 games.

Cheers man. Although today was a breeze, it does kinda suck to be up so early and not be able to unearth some juicy tidbits to share.

Can Montreal play Donatelli when they play against TFC? I assume there should be some sort of cup ties with that.

^ Good point.

And why do Montreal and Vancouver always seem to trade with each other? Isn't that like kissing your sister?

Manchester City have confirmed the release of 10 players from their ranks as manager Mark Hughes continues to shape his new squad ahead of the new season.
Paul Dickov heads the line of players leaving Eastlands, and the 35-year-old is now expected to sign for MLS side FC Toronto after being spotted at a game in Canada alongside former Norwich winger Darren Huckerby, who was released by The Canaries at the end of last season.

No one else is really close though. Aside from LA who is drawing 25142, DC at 20817 and TFC at 20094. The next ones in line are:

SJ @ 17958 (With one game v. LA at McAfee that drew 39872 and one more to come there)

CHI @ 16440 (They only have 1 sellout vs DCU and have yet to play LA at home, so very solid for them)

HOU @ 16736 (solid for any MLS team without Becks)

NE @ 16494 (one of the games was sold as a package deal with a BRA v. VEN friendly and drew 54045... without this game they average 11129)

Heck the only reason DC is ahead of us is because they had over 35K for last weekends game with Becks.
