Does anyone know if the under turf heating equipment was actually put in use at BMO last year, and also if it's in full operation now?

The reason I asked was (if the weather there was anything like out here in Cambridge yesterday) it would seem that this is the first time we've had a dump of snow in advance of a game since we had real grass.

Well it's -4 outside right now and it's downright balmy in the sun... Saturday is going to be even warmer so I'm not concerned in the slightest.

Right.

We did get blasted eh? Had to get out the snowblower.

The field will be nice and toasty, probably at least 5 degrees celcius, so I don't think there will be any problems.

Really? I don't think the field heating will actually make it warmer at BMO would it? That sounds crazy. Almost like a giant spot heater.

No, just the actual field/soil/grass will be 5 degrees. The rest will be windy and cold as ever, especially the stands.

The turf heater just warms the root zone of the grass and may lead to the melting of any snow that is on the field depending on the wind temperature, temperature of the heater and amount of snow.

Won't do squat for us in the stands lol.

Once the snow is shoveled (which I heard was done), the sun will take care of whatever is left after shoveling. If it were me, I would bring the tarps back out til the last minute. That would keep in as much heat as possible. I would think the underground heating has been going full blast for a while now in anticipation for saturday..

The pitch will be fine.

Wouldn't the grass benefit from as much sunlight as possible to try and green it up as much as possible?

I really don't know -- just asking.

The tarp they cover it with lets the UV rays through...

Science!!

The main thing right now is soil temps... and ya, the tarps still let some light through.

Time to break out the fluorescent orange ball. I'm just worried my section will be empty so i wont get the benefits of body heat.

field looked pretty good today except for the patches at the north goal.

I was watching Philly's home opener and man, their grass looks like shit..
