He clearly supports TFC ... Anyone have any ideas on his opinion of improving the quality of the pitch at BMO field? Not only for Toronto FC ... but for the ever important CMNT at our National Soccer Stadium. :canada:

He could start by putting grass into the next budget so we can land some big fish :)

roof+expanded seating. real grass would be nice, but i'd rather have those two first.

Trust me...as a STH, he's well aware of all the calls for an improved stadium (hears it at every game he's at) and is generally supportive. Cost is a consideration, though.

How about letting people have a beer in the parking lot?

LMAO!

People...the Mayor of Toronto is not some all-powerful being that can make things happen. In fact...City Hall is one of the dysfunctional places I have ever seen. Getting anything done is like pulling teeth let alone some of the minor inconveniences we have as TFC fans.

they just sold hydro telecom... they can afford it. I would put with a few potholes here and there... who is with me?

Ask Miller if he's a good striker, we could use one.

LOL ... I agree Don. I'd even volunteer to fill a few potholes for reallocating the money towards improving the National Soccer Stadium.

Well if He had His way, He would have more executive power than any mayor in North America. So perhaps we should ask Him to deliver us some goods.

As for the beer in the parking lot - that goes beyond the mayor. That's both provincial and municipal - can't drink in public (non-contained/non-lincensed premises). North America is anal like that. Not like Europe where people know how to drink relatively responsibly in public.

So we get to choose either Miller, Enza the Supermodel, or you?
You make it so easy to pick! At least you won't have to pay for campaign t-shirts: most already have the jerseys!

let's have Rob Ford as mayor.. then we could have a dirt field cuz dirt is cheaper than field turf.

How does David Miller have anything to do with a decision for this? How much of the stadium belongs to the public and how much is BMOs?

well the stadium is owned by the city, but operated in a signed agreement with MLSE and the CSA.
any changes to the stadium go through the city (managed by their rep) and I believe also must be approved by the Exhibition board.
Ultimate approval must come from the city but I don't know exactly how that works... like if they've gotta sit down at council at vote on it, or if the Ex board can approve it on the advice of the rep. Anyone know?
I assume though that any changes must be approved by all parties, cuz they are all part of the agreement on the stadium even tho the city does own it.
The city doesn't want to change stuff and then have their operator pissed off... and the operator cant just go and start building since they don't own it.
any change to the stadium changes revenue and expenses, which the CSA, Toronto, and MLSE are partners on.

Hold on just to clarify- BMO has the naming rights for tfc and events in the stadium and that's as far as it goes, right? Bitching to BMO wouldn't do anything since they just own the name.

Lets bitch to BMO anyways.

It is in David Miller's best interest that BMO's turf remains plastic…he could care less about grass.

On many occasions he has made reference to BMO as a place for the people of Toronto to use as a public facility. If he could have the fine citizen's of Toronto using the stadium 24/7 he'd be delighted. As a fan he might prefer grass as a public servant its always going to be plastic…

Yet they put a bubble over it in the winter.. could that not then be any city-owned indoor facility being outfitted with FieldTurf?

Maybe they should take over Maple Leaf gardens as a heritage site from Loblaws and outfit that sucker.

The city owns Lamport too…put the bubble up there…hmmm…doesn't have the same caché does it…

I'm not so sure. He acknowledged that the turf was an issue last time I talked with him -- which is a big step from his usual "wink & nudge" when I bring up the topic. My guess is that solutions are being batted around, such as a grass overlay so the FT can be used in the winter.

Yeah I agree with you but to me it seems like there are other decent solutions. I havent seen any recent numbers but it was speculated that the city makes about 500K in renting the thing out. A couple of combo properties could support that or perhaps even schedule some fall concerts or something on the grass (knowing that the footy season is over and they are gonna rip it up anyways) to make up some of the cash to cover operating expenses.

Nothing new I know... but for all of the reasons people state that it isn't going away, it just as easily seems that there are as many solutions. .5 million bucks isn't a large chunk of change in a city as large as T.O. granted it would fix a lot of potholes :)

How about letting people have a beer in the parking lot?

That's an archaic AGCO law, Toronto has nothing to do with it unless they apply for special occasion licenses and it is a big headache.

I'd rather see real grass, maybe expansion, but a roof you guys are real 'NESH' (Look it up in the Yorkshireman's dictionary).
Football fans you are not!!Pansies maybe,LOL Just stoking the fire I've had a few brews, Cheers mates

Hey Stewart, be sure to forward DM the article from the wheels section of the star today...really interesting

Here's a question:
Has the city considered renovating the stadium as part of a larger Casino and sports betting complex like they are doing in the UK?

A nice stadium with grass, plus a casino, slots and sportsbook would be AMAZING.

It would be except that there is a consortium planning the same thing for Woodbine and those plans are well along.
