View Full Version : BMO Field - Warmup Songs (Request to the club)

FluSH

So the home opener is just around the corner, and if you're early enough to notice, there are warmup songs that are usually played over the speakers.

Although I have loved some of the songs previously played including some salsa songs... they are not really footy tunes to get us ready for action. Now, don't get me wrong they have played some really great tunes, so I'm just hoping to build from that and also ask you to provide some direction to our good folks at Toronto FC :D

FluSH's Top 10 Warmup Song Lists

1. Black Keys "Howling For You"
Not as played as 7 nations Army... great tune - Could be our call!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7AP5MAhkoQ&feature=player_embedded

2. Kasabian "Club Foot"
I know I heard this one before at BMO... Great Tune! Great chanting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk5iMgG-WJI

3. Kasabian "LSF"
More great Chanting... Listen to that chorus!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcp05l3Ne1M

4. Kardinal Offishal "The Anthem"
Yes Yes it's eerly familiar to one of our chants... still a good song and home grown!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W6Jl3beOlY

5. Scooter - "Maria / I like it Loud"
Doop Doop Doop - South End in complete madness can I say more!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59eOGmMVZNg

6. Bellini "Samba De Janeiro"
You want something to replace the Salsa... this is it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kteqhiemIKY

7. Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come"
Good Summer Vibe - Good Lyrics!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Znh0OM9jiA

8. Joy Division "Love will tear us apart"
If I could just ask for one song... it would be this one!!!! The reds the reds will tear you apart again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ii8m1jgn_M

9. Pennywise "Bro Hymn"
This one will drive people nuts with the chanting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjHYAVeFwGw

10. UB40 "Red Red Wine"
Great Summer tune... RED RED WINE stay close to me... Pretty fitting(except for the blue heart part lol)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXt56MB-3vc

I know there is a crap load of other good songs out there (500 Miles, 99 Red Balloons, Can't help Falling in Love with You) so if you have any other suggestions let's here them...

This just reminded me of House of Pain - Jump Around. Yeah it's played everywhere... but when you hear that tune!

This song is so insane... It could go well when they first begin to walk unto the field... but would have to be faded away quickly because of the anthems.

Muse - Invincible. Starts a bit slow & quiet... the supporters will notice it early & get excited... the beat starts with the snare drum and builds awesomely throughout the song... and we all go nuts for the last part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxXtQmy0RZY

Now mind you, perhaps wait with playing this song until TFC has a chance of winning a game at home, so "invincible" isn't too much of a farce... ;)

If some explicit language isn't a problem and even if you aren't much into Hip-Hop, I think you'll be able to draw a lot of fun parallels with the lyrics in the song and what you would expect as a supporter (positive attacking/attractive football, anyone?) -- Toronto artist, no less.

Check out:

Bit too expected, IMHO; also don't feel as though you can sing/chant to that one, since the chorus is entirely rapped -- never been a huge fan of the beat, either.. but it's not a terrible choice, for me.

Swollen Members - Going in 4 The Kill

They don't have an instrumental yet - as the album hasn't dropped... But this intro is a dope pre-action song for the first 55 seconds.

Dunno if you can say your going in 4 the 'kill' at MLS games,

but I'd love to have this one going at games where we're tied/leading at the half... about to finish off our opponent

Songs are kind of funny. You never know what will stick.

"Sweet Caroline" at the Boston Red Sox games is one example.

Who would have ever thought that "You'll Never Walk Alone" would turn into the inspirational pre-game song that would put your standard intro to "Enter Sandman" or "Welcome to the Jungle" to shame.

Id prefer the stadium cater to a song the supporters sing in unison that something played over the speakers. I think it takes time to build a supporter culture and if we start using 30-45s of songs that isnt related to chants I dont think it will encourage the casual fan to get into singing.

I like the

When the Reds go marching in... for when games start

Allez Allez, its to late here we come, Allez Allez, we got you on the run.... after we score a goal.

Id rather they put that on the screens for fans to sing than something else. Five years is still young for a franchise and i think these are better traditions to build upon than using pop/hip hop/ other music.

We as supporters sound better.

I disagree. There is nothing wrong with pre warm-up songs. It's done all over footy stadiums (and we've had them since day one while the majority of ppl are buying their beer or coming in late, there is a song playing)

casual fans will sign a song they know.... not likely to sing with us the lyrics to one of our chants... once they are comfortable signing something they know - the goal is for them to be more inclined to participate in the chants.

Here's are some songs beign played over speakers (pregame) from around the world

Hull City
IYphR8dZM2g

Napoli
SUN8QBre0H8

and I've seen examples in Brazil and Japan as well.... so let's not try to move a Mountain in our North American culture when others don't do so as well.

I think that pre game while the players are on the field warming up I dont care. But coming out of the gates, I know that 127 does a great job of when the Reds go marching in and its spreading to 126 and up into the 200's. Its taking time but its growth is undeniable and organic and its a supporters song. Does everyone jump around? No, but will people sing it? Yes. Also the words are easy to remember.

Also there are just so many popular song, how can we pick our "YNWA" or "Forever Blowing Bubbles"?

Come into 127 and you'll see how well that is going.

Im not saying we move a mountain in the day, but water will wear down any rock into a pebble and NEE are proving that with a good capo and dedicate supporters they can do a lot, especially when you consider that 126 is a tough section. I see kids getting ansy and fans wanting to join in only to get tut-tutted by parents and soccer moms. I guarantee that NEE is wearing down those people by dedication and even if they dont get people to go crazy all the time. Over the past four years they have done a lot to get people to start singing, even if they are sitters.

After goals, it would easy to record a drum beat and put the words on the screen. Allez, Allez is easy to remember and people would start doing it if they were serenaded by the south and north end people would join in. Its four lines as opposed to a whole song.

I think that pre game while the players are on the field warming up I dont care...

I don't think you understood this thread. This is all pre-game while players are on the field warming up and ppl are getting into their seats. As of right now... the entire stadium is chanting when the players come out. Not just 127. I recommended a couple of potential motifs while the players are coming out in some follow up posts on this thread but that's about it... it won't be a game breaker because we are in full force already.

I also want to point out that to be a capo in 113 and 112 is extremely tough... not only do we have to work with each other well... (two different supporter groups with different chant requests from their respective groups) but we also have a wide diversity of vocal support within 112 that wants their own respective style of chants (Continental, British, and Latino)... add to that 111 and 114/115 to our wings... and the top of 112 and 113 who start their own chants while we are doing something else... and it's a perfect storm. Nevertheless, I love it. With soccer moms and kids 127/126 has their own complexities to deal with I am sure...

I understand that, Ive been going to those sections for a long time until last year when I migrated to 127. I use to go to the top of 112/113 to link up the chants. If people realized unified it could rival any group of people coming together to support a club through song, chant and action, maybe there would be like preclusion to the different styles, as I find one of the best parts is we bring different pieces of different styles to create our own.

In terms of the thread, I said I didnt care what was sung, I just think it would be difficult. As for when goals are scored, I think Allez, Allez is one of the easiest songs we got to everyone to do afterwards.

So I got the purpose of the thread, but expanded it a little bit to express my opinion in a larger breadth.

So in the spirit of the thread. Here is my choice ;)

Still vividly remember being stuck in 5pm rush hour traffic, heading in to catch a Seattle Thunderbirds WHL game(home opener, I think), when the FM radio station DJ in Seattle announced: 'We''ve waited a long time for this, Seattle. At long last, here they are, once again, Nirvana!'

And on came the complete Nevermind album, with this track leading off. We just sat there mesmerized. Rush hour became irrelevant, the hockey game forgotten. We knew they were good, but even on first listen, we knew this was special. Couldn't believe how many 'Birds fans were talking about it at the Key.

Nowadays, I get the same buzz listening to Elbow. Some pretty anthemic stuff in their catalogue, especially the cuts re-done with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

One Day Like This would be first choice, with it's massively singable chorus of:
'Throw those curtains wide,
One day a year like this'd see me right.'

Grounds for Divorce might be a little too provocatively titled, but killer track. I like it when a team chooses something a little off the beaten path, but makes it their own. Home team and fans get accustomed to it, visitors never have a clue.

The big thing is you don't want to turn the stadium into a hockey arena. I mean you don't want the Stadium to turn into this.

*** I like how they sample Judas Priest "You gotta another thing coming" Though the "Hey, hey heys" are okay.

Decent songs like Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song", AC/DC's "Thunderstruck", Blur's "Song 2", Sloan's "Money City Maniacs", even Outkast's "Hey Ya" have all gotten ruined by the hundreds of times you hear those songs at games.

One thing that helps is actually having a "DJ" running the music during the warmup, so he/she can fade in and out of choruses. But that's a little advanced. However, you don't want it to turn into a club.

Rage Against the Machine is always good, i.e. Renegades of Funk, but don't know how that would go over. "No matter how you try you can't stop us now!"

More of a "hockey" song but I like the BOOM! in the chrous

Boom! - P.O.D.

AC/DC, especially from the Bon Scott days, has a ton of classics.

I still think this works for TFC (just replace TNT with TFC)

Though, usually in most venues, don't the home team players pick the warm-up music?

We're the 12th man... so ya!

Besides some players wear their earphones until the very last second. and I have to agree the point of this is to NOT turn it into a club... but rather a segway into some great chanting.

Given that some folks put a ton of effort into "the Spoof", I don't know why we wouldn't suggest moving forward with "I Can't Help, Falling in Love with You"

Again, a pump up song doesn't have to be like a hockey arena, therefore we aren't limited to "Enter Sandman".

"You'll Never Walk Alone" certainly never fails to get Liverpool fans pumped up.

Ride the momentum with the spoof and create something unique.

Does it realy matter what they play????

they need to get DJ parkdale up there!!!

wikki wikki WACK!

but seriously though - a song needs to be TIMELESS. Some of the ones on your list are good pics Flush, but others will be out of date soon.

Olympique Marseilles has been playing Van Halen's JUMP for the player entrance for 20+ years.
As far as I see it.... if the song isn't still going to be rocking 20 years from now, then there's a better song to use.

Travis- "Why Does it Always Rain on Me?"

I found myself singing that at quite a few games last year.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but in the FA CUP game, at half time they played a Joy Division Song, Ceremony I think. Maybe something cool and retroish like that.

Anyone remember U-20 WC in 2007, how they would always play Live if Life by Opus, and Love Generation, the whistle song?

Bring those back.... those were great on the summer games!

Yes it does...

I'm there coordinating with the people that make a differance 5 minutes before the game is on... and I need them on point.

they probably would have played the New Order version. It's 10000x times more well known (to people who don't actually know of Factory Records and all that stuff)

My understanding of the warm up songs was that they were chosen by the players.

Personally, I say let the players pick whatever they want to get pumped up for the game.

Hey, I'm new to the site and I think this thread is great. My suggestion is, "The Eye of he Tiger" by Survivor. Ya, ya it was a Rocky song but I can still remember hearing it playing before Blizzard games back in the early 80's.
