No big surprise that the boys are finding it hard to play in a totally new method.

We'll probably see some ugly football over the first few games... but hopefully they will get things together fast enough to make the post-season.

I support both national sides, but Canada is always #1 with me. :canada:

If Canada beat the English men's national team it would be one of the greatest days of my life - glory for Canada and embarassment for the current crop of twats who make up the English team.

de Guzman, who is likely to play a key role for the Reds in 2011. After watching tapes of TFC games in the 2010, Winter says he has developed some ideas on how to get more out of his midfielder and said he expects a the former La Liga standout to bounce back this upcoming season.
“It was very difficult for him [last year],” Winter said. “Every time he was asking for the ball, all he was getting were these long balls.”
Obviously, at just 5-foot-6, de Guzman is not an ideal target man. Winter said the system he is implementing will be a much better fit for the Canadian international.
“In our system, he will be one of our key players,” Winter said. “He will get the ball at his feet and forward in attacking positions.”
I think we're likely to see a totally different de Guzman this year. Much more like the la liga de Guzman.

maybe it didn't show last season, but De Guzman is a very, very talented player. If Winter can bring out the best in him, people will be impressed.

must say i don't remember many long balls been hit towards de guzman last year, so that seems like a funny comment.

things can definitely be improved, I mainly remember him having to go back to the defence to pick the ball up, or him watching as frei hoofed it long over his head, or him being forced to hit long balls to our strikers, but long balls actually to de guzman?

oh well, I agree with the basic point, winter's system should work much better for de guzman. he should look much better this year, and he'll be crucial to any success we might have.

No doubt this has been mentioned before, but I think at the very least you can expect a dip in form much like the CWNT went through as they worked on grasping the teachings of Morace. When they emerged on the other side we had a much better product. It's terrific to watch them play now.

Keeping in mind the difference in quality, like. I don't think TFC will be as good/dominant as we'd like them to be. We're a few decent players away from getting there yet.

sometimes u need to question whether the method is right for the quality of these. why I say that. it's because method and the skill of the players go hand in hand.
For example there is no denying that barca plays pretty interesting football. But i think only their squad are able to play that kind of soccer because thye have the players who can control the ball that well. I don;t think any other european team would be able to play barca's style. And they play a style of soccer that suits them a better...
My point is I am not sure whether this "total orange" is exactly what tfc needs right now. or whether it will ever adapt to such technical style.

I am very interesting in seeing how JDG fits into this system.

On a side note...this is exactly the type of condemnation of Preki's style that should have been obvious to all. When your DESIGNATED PLAYER is not suited to the style you're trying to force down the player's throats, you're a poor tactitian. Winter's statement is as much a dismissal of Preki and his decision-making as it is a warning to us that it will take time for us to see results.

I know people are trying to be positive about our roster, or should I say our lack of roster - but think what 2 or 3 more injuries would do...???

We'd have half the academy playing...

Its getting to the point where unfortunately, we need some warm bodies that can play...

Imagine we became "that club" who lost by default / forfeit because we couldn't field 11-players...??? (never happen I know lol)..

Not to worry lads. I'm bringing my Adizero F50's to Van. (orange colour of course for Winter)

I already have a TFC track jacket and jersey so all they need to get me is some socks and shorts and we're good to go!

Which is probably why we will only see true results when the academy kids come up. It might just be too late in the careers to train the older players a whole new system

which cleared the way nicely for them to get rid of their whole "no shirt sponsor" thing, and their new qatar deal.

such idealists. truly mes que un club.

as for kc, well good for them I suppose, should be interesting to see how that works out for them.

Barca's was a giveaway, correct? KC gets 7.5 million over 6 years. Not the highest stadium sponsorship but decent. the article says a portion of ticket sales will go to Livestrong. I wonder how much that takes away from the 7.5 million.

Huh? methinks you read too quickly...
as of part of the deal, Sporting KC has guaranteed to raise (at least) $7.5 million over six years.

I thought you only need 8 players to avoid losing by default? So I think TFC is safe in that regard. ;)
