Kevin Harmse on Trial
Canadian International and former TFC defender is currently in camp with the Whitecaps. He has undergone an incredible comeback, after playing last season with Port Coquitlam FC in the Fraser Valley Soccer League while rehabbing a right knee injury - one that he first noticed while playing for the 'Caps in 2004. Harmse has MLS experience with LA, Toronto FC, and Chivas. He was under contract with Houston but never made the team as they never got a chance to see him play after his injury.

Ya know. He didn't succeed much here. But he had some great runs from the back, that would lead me to believe it was our system here.

He was fairly solid with the CMNT, when he played. Tackle first, ask questions later. But based on some of those flashes, I think he was asked to play that aggressive style.

Like always in MLS it comes down to price. If you could get him at the league minimum and his trial indicates he could get back to the level he was at before his injury, then why not?

Kevin would not fit well in the system Winter is trying to impliment. I could have seen him in Preki's regime. I say all the best to him. Any Canuck playing in the MLS is another ray of light for the kids dreaming of playing pro.

He was alright, journeyman defensive midfielder. He actually had decent ball skills but was never used that way, at any point in his career.

Terrible tackler, though, for his position, sloppy as shit.

I remember the play vividly, because seeing a 2nd string defensive player use proper technique a positioning in front of goal was a such a stark contrast to Barrett's never ending stream of off balance awkward miscues in front of goal that season.

The Whitecaps will have a depleted line-up against Philadelphia on Saturday, and there is talk from Mark Weber that Harmse may be asked to participate in central defense:

Remember when he played there at the end of the 09 season for us? First game I thought, maybe he's found his calling, he's not half bad back there. Then the next game he completely misplayed an up and under, misplayed the turf backspin bounce and was generally horrible.
