I'm watching the FIFA feed right now online at CBC (no speakers :( ) - can't really tell what's going on. Waiting to see a map of Canada with dots where the host cities will be for confirmation. Don't trust Blatter one bit.

Oh, I see now - I've been watching a screen in the parliament building in Ottawa. Cut to crowd, CSA execs shaking hands, Girl's youth team sitting on the floor - all smiles. I guess it's in the bag.

That would make sense if we didn't have over a million dollars in cap space considering we have only a dozen or so players signed.

It's not unheard of. The VIP dinner is not a "meet and greet" like we've had with the players in the past. It will likely be at an upscale restaurant with exclusive access to MLSE executives and likely the biggest stars within MLSE (ie. Phaneuf, Kessel). That's not to say it's worth it for you and me, but some of my Bay St. brethren would likely be up for it as would current or potential corporate partners for MLSE.

LOL! Well there goes the "upscale" part. But my guess then it will be in one of the VIP sections at Real Sports, meaning segregated from the drunken masses.

I can't believe they're dragging their heels with Cann. Surely they can make him a decent offer and hopefully he's not asking for $250k or anything silly like that.

the "fancy" dinner is at e11even and is what costs 1,000. regular tickets, which is probably just to hang out at realsports are $275, all food and beverage included. so, open bar, $275, who's up for that challenge?

Only a dozen or so players signed yet means we need to sign at least a dozen more... that "over a million dollars in cap space" only ends up being about $100k per player, much less if we pick up another DP who eats up a big chunk of the cap space.

I like Cann, and as a team leader do agree that he deserves to be paid decently, but it's not like there's a bottomless well of cash to hand out every time someone decides they're worth more than the contract they agreed to.

Is it a true open bar? Or like canadian, coors light, red wine and some vodka cocktail?

I resemble that remark! (or I would if I could afford to drink there more than once a year)

JDG's comments are very encouraging, but also a caution.

It is very encouraging to hear JDG's comments and enthusiasm for Winter's work. It's also a caution though, as he points out it will take some time for your average N. American player to even understand the system that Winter is trying to teach.

I agree, this is getting ridiculous. Why does anyone even sign a multi-year contract if they are going to whine about it the following year and walk out if they don't get more money? I don't see TFC being able to walk out on JDG's contract and bust his ass down to 150k a year, so why is it when someone has a decent year they demand more money?
