It's weird how he became assistant and Dasovich didn't... maybe being in charge of scouting is more prestigious??

Bent is the 2nd assistant, behind De Klerk. Perhaps Daso was offered the same role but wasn't interested?

I think thats it completely. Daso clearly wanted to become the head coach, it's tough to keep someone so ambitious especially after a demotion.

Good luck to Bent. He's earned it.

According to various reports Winter & de Klerk have been impressed by the academy players, therefore it makes sense that Bent was rewarded.

There's a story on TSN about it. Considering this isn't a really big story (even for TFC fans, it's interesting and important for the club, but it's not going to make waves) I wonder if their recent interest in soccer is bumping this onto the main page.

Now that TSN has the rights to MLS games you'll se TFC news featured more prominently on their website.

Yeah I was surprised when I saw that. Nice.

and of course some shithead in the comments had to write "What's a Toronto FC?" I wonder if that's an Argo fan.

Perhaps Winter doesn't trust him to coach the Academy, and wants him to learn how to properly coach with the first team. Maybe they are giving the Academy HC position to someone who understands their Dutch style of coaching.

Just my thoguths.

^^^^ Hmmmm. They didn't announce who his replacement is yet from what I could tell. Once we find out who that is then we can see if this specualtion has something more to it.

just a guess but i think it's because bent has helped develop a lot of the talent that was "standout" to winter in the turkey camp. winter had nothing but praises for most - it not all of the academy kids.

and considering there are like 5 tfc players on canada u17 team that have not conceded a goal in qualifying so far and have scored 8!

it's the right thing to do.

congrats jason!

i doubt a guy would get a promotion to the first team to train him and keep him away from the academy. Makes no sense. If Bent wasn't good enough for the academy he'd be fired.

This is a promotion for sure, Jason is highly regarded for the development of the academy and that is seen by the advancement of the kids to first team and their appears to be more as there is a good chance Stinson, Cordon and Morgan will also be signed as Academy graduates.

If the Academy wasn't being run properly, there wouldn't be two Academy players under contract with the First team, and another 4 training with the First Team in Florida right now. Winter wouldn't just drag them along for the ride.

This is a promotion.

I"m sure one of Jason Bent assitants last year while with Academy will take over,as his 1st assitant also coaches UofT mens soccer program,or maybe daso will be given the job

I guess that answers whether or not Bent was moved to make way for a coach who understands the Dutch style of play better...

It was clearly a promotion.

Hmm, im torn. He did amazing with the academy, so he deserves the promotion, but what does this mean for the academy? I wonder who will be filling his shoes there. Hopefully we get another good coach for them.

The legendary Danny D will be at the helm.

Assuming that Winter makes these coaching moves, I am impressed how he came in and got to know the coaches, took some time to look at some of the players and organization and made the logical moves in bringing Bent forward, placing Dichio & Brennan into head coaching roles. I am guessing that Winter & de Klerk will be fairly involved with the academy as well helping the coaches as much as looking at talent. A much more organized thought our approach to the previous administration.

This is great news for TFC and the Acadamy Players,
Having Bent as asst. coach will help build a better bridge between the First Team and the acadamy and I think we will start seeing more and more players coming up over the following years

Congrats Jason!!
