De Rosario, who said of his ongoing contract dispute that “things definitely look brighter” and “we all want to get it behind us and focus on football,”

looks like the club is going to sign his cheque.

I really hope that's the end to his complaining, and that he just plays for us like the talented player that he is.

I don't like Bunbury's ethics, but I wouldn't wish injury on anyone.

De Ro's into mid season form with the media, that's good to see. (http://www.cruelgeography.com/2011/02/double-dutch-what-theres-3-of-them-bah.html) Also, does winter's dutch heavy triallists and signings remind anyone else of Mo's reliance on the brits. hopefully these guys will work out better.

Weren't we scouting the Latvian league for players around this time last year?

I think it's a step in the right direction.

Really

True supporters wish injury on players that hurt their feelings.

Getting pleasure out of anothers injuries is a sure sign of class.

Pathetic.

I have to kind of agree.

But like you said, hopefully they work out better.

Reading the Star article, the one positive is that the players seem more positive about/around Winter than they did with Preki.

Hopefully that's a good thing.

Dutch players are not as over-priced as the League 1 players that Barry McLean, I mean Mo signed.

Same, same, but different. Winter has only just arrived from Holland and was well tapped into the football community there. It only makes sense that his initial sources will be dutch heavy as he has an "inside track" on many of the younger players over there.

^ that's very true, it's also probably a good thing at least at the start to have a few players that have been brought up within the system that winter wants to play. should ease the transition.

interesting article. don't agree with the idea that anselmi and co will fire Winter to save their own asses and look better for the post peddie reshuffling.

That's what hiring Winter was all about. what they've masterfully done is sold the idea of committing to something long term, with warm and fuzzy far off promises of academy grads playing attractive and successful football. so even if this season doesn't work out great, they can (and already have been) plead for patience, and point to the big long term project. exhibit b for that theory is the price freeze in place for next year, for me that's a pre-emptive bargaining chip for next year rather than a straight up apology for the royal screw up.

It's all about selfishly insulating themselves and their promotion prospects from the prospect of failure. the fact that, on the face of it at least, it seems like a good plan they've committed to is a happy coincidence that will hopefully work out well for us.

Winter and the long term plan is their big resume buffing exercise, no way they'll fire him within first season.

I agree. I'll also restate my opinion that Preki wasn't fired based on his performance, but because he was a last gasp hope for Mo. Once they realized the season was done and that Mo was on his way out, they had little choice but to get rid of Preki. Clean slate.

from everything I've heard, Preki has lost the dressing room entirely, and had turned a tough situation into an unsalvageable wreck.

pretty much the same thing Mo was doing, but with a different job title.

agreed that there was no keeping preki with Mo leaving.

Not to mention the difference in the training and development of young talent in both countries. The British system preaches strength, physicality and a bullish approach to football. The technical abilities and footy brain of British players thins out after the Championship.
In Holland and other European countries, technical development and smart play are the norm in academies. Those that don't make the big time still have technical skills and play smart football.
Dutch cast-offs should prove more valuable than the boot and chase footballers Mo was able to get his hands on.

Preki could have stayed even if Mo left had Preki not lost the dressing room and pissed off pretty much everyone within the organization. He was like a bull in a china shop.

but how long would someone stay on as coach once a new 'GM' or whatever was found? Look at Daso.

If Preki was doing a good job and winning games, Mo wouldn't have been canned. I really don't think we can separate the two. they were both pretty damaging to everything they touched.

before the firing I was wondering if they might dump Mo and give Preki both jobs, the way Bruce Arena has it in LA. Then they'd see if Preki's "vision" could be instituted. If it failed, then Preki would be gone too. But the clean slate was best. Preki and Mo were supposed to be good buddies anyways, so you'd think everything Preki wanted, he'd probably get.

Not at all, personally.

For one, in a league like MLS, whenever a team comes under new management, the management usually likes to make a stamp and bring in their guys. If anything this is more similar to Preki, with Martin Saric, maybe Usanov and Hscanovics, in my eyes.

The style of play Winters wants for Toronto is most closely associated with the Dutch, so it was clear as day that he'd trial players familiar with it.
