I guess it would be too much to expect the possibility of a pre-season viewing party?

Its funny that I got more information from that 5 minute interview with Mariner about his role and responsibilities than over a month of articles from the toronto media.

At 14:05 minutes into the pod cast "Mariner On ET" he's asked if TFC gets a DP before the season starts, what would be the positioning of that player? Mariner noted that special player would be someone in a forward roll. To all those educated on world football, is anyone willing to share their knowledge as to whom this forward roll player might be?

Looks like BMO is going LED.

New LED signage at BMO Field is apparently the highest resolution in MLS.

He means forward role, i.e. the player will be a forward.

Th Euro sides are not in mid season. The Serbian league If I understand correctly has a long winter break. They have been off for months and are in pre season like TFC is

Accoding to yesterday's Footy Show Podcast ont he Score, we've been offered Eidur Gudjohansen, but no word if Winter is interested yet.

Yeah... they brought them for the MLS cup final. Kinda cool but its not like it helps the team in any way, except maybe more advertising dollars.

As the salary cap doubles over the next few years, stuff like this will make all the difference between the rich and poor teams.

Even better. I've been hoping they'd find these leagues that are close to being in sync with our own. Keep this up and get rid of mid season friendlies!

I can assure you that Serbia is mid-season but yes in a winter break. They run the same Fall-Winter schedule that the rest of Europe runs, with an extended break in the middle because they live in a mountain range...

The current standings in Serbia show only 15 games played. Considering the league has 16 teams, this would mean exactly half the season is done.

ugh, hate the flashing boards, but I suppose progress is progress, every little drop of profit counts.

as someone alluded to above, this sort of thing is very much a rich get richer kind of thing, increasing the gap between rich and poor. given that within MLS we're part of the rich, I suppose it's a helpful thing for us.

still kind of depressing though.

Ent played in the Eredivisie for a bit before school, which is the dutch first league, dunno bout schwartz except they can apparently alternate back and forth and compliment each other on the sides

ive read a few interviews in which Gudjohansen has said he's been offered the spot but would prefer to go to Ajax for less

Gudjonssen, would fit in perfectly here on TFC or another MLS team, but I think he just took one look at our situation and decided he still had an option at a professional and stablished team like Ajax.

I think if you think of yourself as a professional footballer, you would look at a team like Toronto FC, and come to the conclusion that its not only a step down from EU teams, but its also a amateur club compared to the other options available.

Its like Terrel Owens career, from the 49ers--->Eagles--->Cowboys--->Bills--->Bengals--->CFL or Reality TV?

Where did you read that?

Based on his wikipedia entry (ya, I know, its wikipedia) he was never on a team that was in the Dutch top flight league.

He might simply be confusing Eredivisie (top flight) with Eerstedivisie (meaning, "first division" but is the second level of football.

It's a little like how the Championship in England sounds like it's the top level to the uninitated, but isn't.

Yes, he was. But they were promoted and then promptly relegated. And there's no proof on wikipedia that his club played him in the Eredivisie. It's more likely he played in the Eerstedivisie.

D'oh. Yes, FC Volendam would have been in the Eerstedivisie during Ent's time there.

And you are also right in saying nobody knows if any of the 10 appearances Ent made for the club were during their time in the top division.

FC Volendam won the Eerste Division in 2007-08, gaining promotion to Eredivisie for 2008-09.

Bas Ent left Volendam at the start of the 2009 season. He came up through Volendam's youth system. During his time at Volendam, the club bounced between the Eredivisie and the Eerstedivisie.

Regardless, Ent would like be just a depth guy who could push for a starting role.

Personally I think while he's an okay crosser of the ball, he's too slow.

Dayton Dutch Lions seem like a good organization. Started off in PDL for 2010 season, were dominant but not unbeatable, got knocked out of PDL playoffs early. Had lots of Dutch ringers but now their roster lists mostly US players. Moving to Div 2 in season two was part of the plan, but stayed with USL in the recent developments, so they will be in Div 3 (USL PRO).

No surprises there, as he was facing a relative demotion. Given what transpired last season with a clashing of philosophies between him and Preki, I think this is in the best interest of both parties. I wish him luck.
